You wanted opinions, so I didn't bother to read the replies you've already gotten. Your question is loaded. "No", or "yes" is a wrong answer. Much like asking if I am still beating my wife. God is. Unfortunately, it's as simple as that. What he is, does, was, will be, may be, etc. is perfectly useless because there isn't just a whole hell of a lot we can do about it. Why not ask, "Should 9 follow 8?" To me, the point isn't who or what God is, because that cannot change, but who or what we are. We can actually do something (however minor) about that, including telling the JW next to you to "Suck my ..." Imagine this: gravity, and the other natual forces, are not constant throughout the universe. In fact, like waves across a large body of water, the elemental forces increase and decrease in density, or strength. However, these areas of density change are light years across. Now, 6000 (or so) years ago our portion of the galaxy moved into a region of the universe where electrical resistance "increased" by, oh say, 10%. And now, in this 21st century, we are starting to move into an area where "natural" electrical resistance is returning to it's previous value: times 1.1. What is this going to do things? Well, primarily, the intelligence among mammals (and other creatures using electricity as the basis for nervous system communication) will increase unbelievably. To put it in perspective, chimpanzees will be reading comic books. To those born from now until then, it will be no big deal. But what about the rest of us? What will be left of a 20th century human race confronted with the thoughts that will suddenly be upon them? What happens when the old lies become a child's explanation that the cookie jar is broken beacuse they were doing nothing?

Grace: What is it?.
by Lady Lee inthis may seem like an odd topic for me to handle but i have had this rolling around in me for a long time.. i'm sure many of us recall the oft repeated quote from jws that "faith without works is dead" the concept of grace is unknown to them.
one website gives one aspect of it as.
grace is a beautiful word, truly a great bible truth is resident in this word.

Say, weren't the Astros & Cards doing the NCLS during the ASSy? Somehow that scene you described just warms my heart. I begin to imagine it like the scene from the Simpson's where Homer goes to church on Superbowl sunday. See, there was this guy at work and then all of a sudden, he hears avoice. The voice says, "Quit your job, sell your house. Go to Vegas!"...

"Tongue Lashing?" It's been years since I've heard that phrase. I hope nobody is going to give you what you expect. The point, to me, is simple: happy. Are you happy? How about your son? Physicists often judge the validity of a theory based upon how "beautiful" it is. That is, how simple, obvious, intuitive the theory comes across. Einstein's most dramatic, insightful, and consequential statements could be printed in a sentence no more than 3/4 of an inch long. For the rest of us, beauty, simplicity, intuitive, often becomes a single question: does it make you happy
If the elder's phrasing was a bit off, well, that happens; however, you were there and I wasn't. If it bothers you, that is indicative. If it bothered your son, that is even more important. I geuss this is all about you. Do you want absolution? Sorry, I am the antithesis of that. Looking for sympathy? Why? If you're right, f**k it, you're right. Looking for sympathy? Okay, been there done that. More than once Do I love my children more than Jehovah? You betcha. To quote the guy in the movie: "God will understand. If he doesn't, then it is alright, because then he is not God."
Or, you can do what I did and start out with the joke about the guy hearing voices.

JEHOVAHS ORGANIZATION and NAZI ORGANIZATION: SIMILARITIES????
by chuckyy inthe more an individual was willing to commit bad acts against humanity in the name of the state, the more likely he would move up the ranks, as he would be considered loyal to the party.
eventually all of the 'inhumane' became higher ranking officials.. .

Greetings
by Severus injust a brief introduction to get me started.
i am still one of jehovah's witnesses although delicately extricating myself from this complicated situation.
i have family to be concerned about, and this still binds me to the religion like a fragile cobweb.. i wonder that the jw paranoia of harry potter was what initially piqued my interest?

I think that you just might be 91. I am not familiar with Inferi; however, if it is a derrivative of Inferiae, it makes an interesting statement. I have been informed (by folks younger than myself) that Inferi is something from Harry Potter. Please tell me what an Inferi is?
Your direction of implosion was somewhat different than mine, as I tend to see the implosion occurring much like the decline of Joesph McCarthy, whose power source was based upon fear. It wasn't a groundless fear, and the subject of the fear was one that was, indeed, of a most serious nature, not to be taken lightly. But, as events played out, the accuracy and ready acceptance of McCarthy's warnings bred a sense of indestructability in him, which was quickly transformed into pride and a lust for power. And in the end, what his humaness drove him to become and what his hubris demanded, turned him into something far worse than the worst fear he originally engendered. But so it went with Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Richard Nixon, and all sorts of men, and groups of men, throughout history. Maybe even Satan?
Be forewarned that your cloak is wishful thinking. I suspect that the insight and concern in your words did not come from a personality that is easily hidden, nor one that will sit mute amid the donkeys just because it might be a little chilly outside. Be careful, you may soon become a thumb. A very sore thumb.

The sin of the rebel
by IP_SEC inrebellion is one of the greatest sins to the witnesses.
if you believe the bible, there are many good examples to show why rebellion is wrong.
satan, korah, adam and eve, are used by the society to show that to be loyal to the organization is the right thing to do.

The "rebel" in Biblical history is such a good aspect to consider. I have often noted and marveled the Bible's preference to the individual over the group. As probably everyone here has done, I have read the Bible many times, and, from time to time, I tried to read it from different angles; first, imagining it as a tech manual, then, sometimes, as a novel, and then other times as a proclamation from the owner of the universe. But I do not recall ever having gotten the sense of the need for or the superiority of groups. That isn't to say that there weren't crowds of people in the Bible; but, except, prehaps, for the crowds that followed JC out of curiosity (not to mention the free food and medical attention, "Blessed are the cheese makers?") large gatherings of people usually indicated "bad" things were happening, or going to happen. It seems that it is always the individual, or small group of individuals, that God favors and to whom he sends his spirit.

Recent Catastrophies
by Frogleg init doesn't seem to matter what you know, or don't know, hearing about a sudden, seemingly linked catastrophies always makes me feel kind of spooky.
i ran across this piece that touches on the subject and it seemed to bring all of the recent happenings into a bit more of a perspective.
i especially liked the near-limerick at the end.
