Absolutely. I would say the majority is on meds, usually tranq's and antidepressants. And almost everyone drinks like a righteous fish.

Can I be Luke the physician? (you know, I have been known to play doctor on a few occasions.)
My earthly name will be Miso Hor Ne.
As one of the Big 4 apostles, I automatically accept Darth YHWH into the club. EliJah, I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to go over your head on this one.
Oh, I almost forgot.............................................................Amen!

EliJah, how was I ridiculing Jah? Because I couldn't help but laugh at your jokes?
Is that sort of like the jw mentality, that if you criticize or question the organization, you are insulting Jehovah? I don't think many people here have room for that mindset anymore.
Amen.

Far Away
by Cori injust an update on my situation at home with my wife.
after reading coc, and after the counsel from some on this board, i have decided to wait, and not go full head on with a religious discussion with my wife.
as i had mentioned, she is not an active witness (we dont go to the meetings or in service), and even recently discussed our daughter's birthday.

You never know, maybe when she was wondering how far the brothers travel to the kingdom hall, it was because she was considering how much you might be left alone if she did not go to meetings. Anybody, even a diehard witness, could readily see that it would be much easier to slip away in a new town, especially if the territory was much bigger and more seldom worked.
Maybe she is actually considering not going to meetings and trying to figure out how easy it would be. Just a thought.

I am the almighty laptop user. Amen.
I seize every opportunity to log on to JWD with beer in hand. Amen.
I like EliJah's posts because they show how easy it is for someone to claim to be the FDS. Amen.
My dog is licking his balls. Amen.

How the Internet Means 'The End' for Apostates and Opposers of the Society
by slimboyfat inthe received wisdom is that the internet has dramatically damaged the ability of the watchtower society to gain and retain followers.
there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.
in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

Sorry, but I also disagree strongly. If the internet wasn't a colossal threat, it wouldn't be talked about at every meeting. That is not an exaggeration; lately I have even heard it said several times at meetings that if it is not necessary to our livelyhood, we may want to avoid even having internet service in our home. The society would not spend so much time and energy demonizing the internet if it were not so scary to them.
The fact that many who leave over info they read on internet sites are maybe not as vocal and disruptive as some of the old-school apostates is actually another nail in the coffin for the society in my opinion. Think about it: the line between "apostate" and "normal person with reasonable doubts" is being blurred into nothing. The proof of that is in the number of posters on this board who still go to meetings somewhat (like me) for their family's sake, but are tuned in to the contradictions, inaccuracies, and guilt trips that are used. Just imagine all the people like me who go home after the meeting and find a way to subtly point out to their spouse just one little point where the watchtower was completely wrong. If you don't think this is going to have a devastating effect, you are mistaken.
I have a feeling the post was an attempt to throw many newbies off. Make the doubters doubt, if you will.

For some reason, I couldn't even get them to send me a calendar or any info. I did use a fake name (an elder I know of), but I don't think they figured that out.
I did end up having a nasty back and forth with someone named Michael Loughman from the company. He insisted I ask my CO, and I insisted that he answer my questions. He did not give in. Very strange.
