GaryBuss, that was a good post - I never once thought of that little tactic. I do not have any christmas decorations, but I have seen some of the witnesses cruising past my house the last couple of weeks. It didn't even occur to me why they might be doing so.

2 elders came for a visit
by Goldminer inat first i wasn't going to post this but i noticed a lot of people here have been getting visits from elders lately, all with pretty much the same results.. three months ago,my wife asked an elder if he could answer some of my questions.he offered to come over, which he did,to waste my time talking in circles to basic questions he couldn't answer from the bible.(i.e.
where does the bible say god has an organization and uses a governing body to direct it?
) anyways, after 3 hours of proving his allegiance tot the wts and showing me his level of denial he said he would do more research on my questions and get back to me.one main question that night had been 607 bce.. last week he made arrangements with my wife to return with another elder.that day i decided, based on advice i got here, that i would not use any research notes, only the bible as final authority(unless we got into 607 since you need secular history to support dates).the discussion started on god's organization, and being that i'm not very good at these type of debates,it basically went in circles with one elder getting upset that i didn't believe that god has a visible organization.he kept asking me well, which religion has the truth then?

Do you view life differently since you quit the JW Org?
by JH in.
where are your priorities now?
or do you just live life one day at a time, without worrying about anything.

Definitely. I am way less judgmental in the way I see others. that's been the biggest change for me.

Scary, it seems to be happening everywhere. I am glad to be prepped by the info on this board. It seems that the big gun getting used is that question about believing God's visible organization. I am going to take the route of not offering one single answer to them. It seems like you did a good job, Goldminer. Even if she doesn't say it, your wife saw that they had no answers for you.

They made another run at me.
by kilroy2 ini was watching law and order last night at 10pm when the door bell rung.
i was in my red long underwear and jumped up to put on my jeans went down stairs to answer the door, i always turn on the light and look thought the peeper to make sure charlie manson is not knocking, no manson but two of my local elders from the hall.
i have not had any one from the hall take a run at me for at least a couple of years.

I like the way you said you would not do their work for them. Good job. I also live in fear of the elders showing up at my door. It's ridiculous. I am also considering moving far away so that I can be left alone. Keep us posted as to what happens.

the name was suggested by someone who posts here, since it is not really a disassociation letter.

I like the legal threat idea. Maybe we should have someone with legal expertise give us an effective line to threaten the elders with. Has this been done, does anybody know? I personally would like to have some type of legal short and sweet to use if my local elders ever try to df me.

Good job, AuldSoul. Very well written - I especially like the way you explained the points on judicial committees and the UN scandal.

Scarce at the kingdom hall
by justice for all ini heard that it was scarce at the kingdom hall last thursday night.
the speaker was asking those in attendance to look around and see who was missing and to call them and encourage them to come back to the meetings.
interesting huh?

From what I hear, meeting attendance is down all over. And it's down dramatically. At our last CO visit, the CO did not even read the stats like has always been done before. At the last Circuit Assembly, it was announced that meeting attendance is a problem in our circuit. I have a feeling that has been said at pretty much everyone's Circuit Assemblies.

Taking Life Too Seriously
by joelbear ini've been thinking a lot this week about what has gotten my brain into the mess that it is in.
yes, chemistry plays a part, but i think thoughts affect brain chemistry as much as brain chemistry affects thoughts (especially over a long period of time).
i know that one thing for sure is true, i take life and all the bits and pieces of it way too seriously, allowing my emotions to be swung on a much greater arc that i should.. but just think about witness childhoods.

I agree, joelbear. Good advice for all of us. I realized a few weeks ago that I cannot have any idle time without feeling guilty. I guess it comes from always "knowing" I should be doing more personal study, getting more hours, etc. Lately I have tried to free my mind enough that I can take the little extra time I get and do absolutely nothing with it, if I so desire. Amazingly, no lightning strikes me in return.
I think maybe the mindset comes from being told over and over that we are personally helping to either prove Satan a liar, or disgrace Jehovah. Growing up thinking that the universe hangs in the balance of our daily actions has got to seriously F with our heads.
