jwfacts, I have learned a lot from reading your posts. I think you are right - maybe the biggest lesson we can learn is that we can't change other peoples minds for them. That's what jws try to do.

Why can't you just move on?
by atypical inthat's what my wife said to me the night before last.
i was making an observation about the way my family and other jws in my life are constantly trying to get me to go to a meeting or read an awake, but they never want to sit down and address the questions i have raised to them.
she then asked me why i can't just move on.

I'm with Star Moore; I would ask what they think it means, this "gathering of yourselves together", then read them the scripture "where two or three are gathered in my name". Leave the burden of proof on them. Witnesses use that once passage to support their meeting structure, and it really doesn't hold up, imo.

Are you tempted to celebrate V-Day with your DUB mate?
by stillAwitness invalentine's day is tuesday and i was just wondering; for those who still have mates in dub land...is it tempting to maybe buy them flowers or insist on a dinner date on such a lovey-dovey day?
i saw some yellow roses on sale today at walmart and was tempted to get some for my mom then i realized i'd better wait till after the 14th.
silly aint it?

Becka, I'm sorry your guy didn't do something special for you. You are obviously a great girl. It's too bad that the religious taboo got in the way of him expressing that to you today.
Here's a rose.

I am very sorry for all of you who have had to deal with marital problems over this issue. To those still dealing with it, I wish you the best of luck. To those of you who have moved on, carpe diem, my friends.
Dr. Shaz, I am happy to answer your question. Although I could go on for an hour, I will just give you a select few.
Why does the organization claim to have no clergy/laity class system?
Why does the organization claim that they don't ask for money?
Why does the organization rate people based on recorded hours and meeting attendance?
Why are the most important standards of merit within the watchtower organization all based on rituals that were invented by the watchtower, not on standards held out in the bible? i.e. - ministry school, field service hours, no beards, meeting attendance, literature placements, etc. Those things are essential to being successful in the watchtower organization. Here are some things that are not:
Kindness, Treats family well, does not slander, does not lie, is not ambitious for personal gain, does not judge others, motivated by sound principles not popularity, etc.
One could raise to any position in the watchtower organization without having a single thing from my second list. However, one could never rise to any position in the organization without ALL of the things on my first list.
How say you?
I would be happy to elaborate on any of my questions.

Good for you, AuldSoul! I'm glad it went well.
Well, I took Super Becka's advice and went ahead and bought my wife a valentine present, too. I didn't want to, as I am still very upset about the "Why can't you move on?" comment, but I got a lot of good advice about making a point to be an extra good husband, and I took it. Besides, what better way to show I have moved on? I bought her a nice piece of jewelry ( I have bought her very little jewelry, and I think this is a sore point for her) and went to her work. I asked her to come outside and gave it to her. I was afraid of what reaction I might get, but she absolutely loved it. I told her that she might want to be discreet for her own sake (their are witnesses at her job, and the present is a diamond-ruby heart pendant, so it will be obvious that it's for valentine's), but she said, "I don't care, they aren't my friends" So all in all it went pretty well.

Lazy Witnesses
by ellderwho inmy son was leaving the house saturday morning around 8:00 am, the lazy dub could not muster up the strength to get out from behind the wheel of her dub carrying minivan to pawn off the tower rag.
as my son walked to his car, dub lady is waving the tower rag as if " come over here and get this rag so i can count this as time.".
what has this world come to?

He should have pretended to be in some kind of trouble, and asked the Wits for help. I bet they would have scattered like crazy. It would make a good film.
