Odrade - amazing job! I admire your aplomb. I hate to admit that even though I have been gone for about three years, I cannot get through a conversation like this without getting worked up and emotional; therefore I usually avoid getting into it. I hope at some point I can remain collected when I am faced with old jw friends and acquaintances who want to know why I left.

i didn't realize i had never posted the story, so here it is.. last summer (when i went to buy my new camera lens) i ran into one of my favorite jws at the photography shop.
he was buying a camera bag for his new dslr, and i saw him, went up and greeted him, hugged him.

mitt romney being one of them.. then there's the scientology people.
yes... also an alternative religion like jw and mormons.. like there are tons of rich scientologists in tom cruise world.. and i know that in jw there are some wealthy people.. but i tell you, in jw the overall feel is that being poor is glorified.. my experience is there is a ton of descrimination in the organization.

I think that in general it is seen as more "righteous" to be poor in witness culture. However, imo, the most important thing to witnesses is conformity - I know of rich congregations where a poor person would never fit in, and many poor congregations where a rich person would be resented. I used to go to a poor congregation; one family actually ate pigeons. In that hall, I was considered rich. :0

Do we need some children to endure molestation and horrific abuse so that we can draw a nice contrast with the children who make it through unscathed? What type of pleasure is made better by murder, rape, incest, starvation, poverty, etc.? That of the molestor, the murderer, the abuser, and the thief?

These memorized statements are so frustrating because they presuppose everything - and offer no substance. It's hard to even know where to begin - do you start by explaining the history of the name Jehovah and where it came from? Do you go all the way back and talk about where the jews got their idea of god from? Or for the sake of argument do you just use the jw's platform and argue whether or not their statement is true according to their own bible? I usually take the last approach, and ask them who the organization was when Jesus appeared on the scene. Then I ask who "Jehovah" was working through, and who Jesus was deliberately opposing. Jeremiah works good for the same argument.

Update Regarding How The May 1 QFR Is "Playing" In The Congregations
by Justitia Themis ini have been emailing with a sister in my congregation regarding the qfr.
i told her i wasn't discussing it with most jws, because i didn't want to hear any of their "new light" garbage.
i told her this isn't new light; this just means that what we paraded out in 1935 as "new light" was wrong.. she sheepishly (no pun intended) agreed.

OK, my dealing-with-heckler skills need work! (stand up comedy)

my last three sets went fine, got plenty of laughs, and i felt good about them.
tonight i thought some folks from work were going to be there so i was using old material that had worked previously.

anyway the revelation book is being considered and we're at the paragraph where the congregation in ephesus is comended for "not bearing bad men.." apostates.. .
the comments from the ones attending were so baised and ignorant.

Who's really bitter and angry? Jw's have the burden of constantly trying to find a reason to believe that everybody who doesn't agree with them deserves to die. Who doesn't agree with them? Only the entire world, with the exception of less than one percent! Who do we apostates disgree with? Just some fringe group who happened to screw with us for part of our life. I think there is a big difference.

WHAT CARE AND COUNSELLING DO JWS PROVIDE?
by badboy inits says in many charity commission bits that jw congregation have submitted that they provide care and counselling.. what types is that?.

They provide counsel on everything from the size of your earrings to the length of your sideburns.
As far as care.....well, they only really care if you're fucking, smoking, or apostasizing.
I'm personally trying to do all three.
