It seems to me that the first and biggest job of those in control conerns money and liability. Maybe some of the GB actually believe some of the crap, but the lawyers and accountants just worry about profit and loss.

Do they themselves believe?
by Kristofer insometimes i wonder, with the number of letters that the wt receives refuting doctrine & practices, does the gb really buy what they put out?
or are they just pushing literature and living off the collections from congregations.
i would think that if i received overwhelming evidence of the faultiness of my religion, i'd be forced by my own conscience to change or speak up or make a difference.

Do you think that "Armaggeddon"/Hellfire damnation" is just scare tactics?
by booker-t inmany people have come to believe that the churches, religions or the world today just use "punishment" as a form of scare tactic to get controll over people.
i am beginning to think maybe these people are right.
it is hard for me to believe that a "loving" god would destroy 6 billion people just to save a "few" people at armaggeddon.

Elders comment regarding "apostates" at WTS 3 weeks ago
by XBEHERE inhe basically said that these opposers will even use wt literature to draw you away from jehovah but they use it out of context and misquote it.
the majority of the articles used on the internet that i have read either on here or other sites to prove how stupid the doctrines are have the entire article posted so how is that out of context?
such a hypocritical statement when this very tactic is peppered throughout their literature to begin with.

Does it ever occur to them that they are wasting their time, because the information they are studying now will be "old light" some day?

What a shameless tactic. The society figures out what is the biggest threat, and then cleverly discredits the source.
Do they even realize that they are discrediting themselves? They are showing that they really do take the rank and file as a bunch of fools. They are sitting around studying the society's words, and talking about how they should be careful about reading the society's words!!!!!!!
My head hurts!!

Apostasy defined in the Elders Manuel
by gumby infor those unfamiliar with the societys veiws on what apostasy is, this is from the elder manuel under.
..."elders ruling for justice itself".. apostasy.. apostasy is a standing away from, a falling away, defec-.
tion, rebellion, abandonment; it involves teaching false.

Apostasy is a standing away from, a falling away, defec-
tion, rebellion, abandonmentThis is it folks. This is why all you have to do is miss meetings for awhile and you get treated like a criminal. I didn't realize the elder's book said this. With this official stance, it's no surprise that the elders treat inactive ones as though they have committed a serious sin.

To Fade or Not Fade
by daniel-p inso it's been five months that i've been on jwd and i've made a lot of progress.

I personally chose to fade, and have been doing so for around 7 or 8 months now, maybe longer. I really did not want to DA because I feel like that is playing on their terms. I can't lie though, it is extremely stressful for me. I too am dealing with a very active wife. Our relationship has become very unstable in my opinion. We are really great together on our own, but the hard fact of the matter is that she is still loyal to an organization that tells her they are more important than family.
We have had many, many discussions on the subject and they usually go well, but then she goes to her next meeting, gets hounded by somebody asking "what I am doing that is keeping me from coming to meetings", then comes home upset and depressed. I have been plagued by the same fears you mentioned, that she could easily leave me for an active witness brother and probably even have the blessing of the congregation.
I have many times tested her by letting her know that she should be fair to herself and me by being honest if she does not want to be with someone who will never be an active witness. I have offered to continue to be her spiritual head as long as she understands that I will not teach the beliefs of an organization that I do not agree with. I keep trying to give her choices, and at the same time I am trying to quietly let her see that I am still hardworking, loyal, and all that.
Don't forget that witnesses are taught to believe that everyone outside the kindgom hall is not to be trusted; that leaving the organization means a person is leaving all morals and goodness. That is the hardest perception to shatter, but I think it can be done.
Good luck to you, man. Sorry for the long post. It is a tough road, but reading this board gives me hope.

How to reply to the inevitable invitation to Memorial this year...
by nsrn ini'm anticipating a series of visitis from the witnesses to invite me to memorial.
every year i get a few with the preprinted invitation, a couple slightly old magazines, and big smiles.
these are people who i grew up with, who were kind to me, who honestly think my fade out will cost my eternal soul at the big a. these are the same people who pick up my elderly parents for meetings, bring them food when they are sick, and change their rusted out water heater for them in the dead of winter.

nsrn, I totally feel for you. I am going through the same thing. Even though I am being treated like sh*t by the local witnesses, it will be as though I am breaking the hearts of my family and long time family friends if I don't even go to the memorial. No matter how much you know it shouldn't matter, it doesn't change the screwed up reality of being surrounded by jws in their full blown witness mentality.
It sucks. I have considered going, and using the opportunity to get in a few people's faces who I know have been spreading rumors about my "absence" from the meeting. But then, I know I will still be viewed as the big disappointment.
I hope it turns out well for you. Just know that there are others going through the same situation.

Do you believe in negative energy?
by xjwms inall of you people are the best, ... because you always have the right answers fast....... last week i had that run in with bro & sis pioneer...and they really beat me up, .
this week a brother called me, with a stupid tax question that i know he had the answer to.
he had not seen me since last year at the memorial...and said...."are you fatter since i seen you?".
-
atypical
Absolutely I do. Or, to put it another way (stilla), I believe that some people and some situations drain your energy rather than feeding it. That's why I quit going to meetings. I came home feeling beat up and worthless every time I went.

Anyone feeling the Memorial pressure?
by atypical infor those who are fading, do you feel the pressure building as the memorial approaches?
family members who otherwise are busy with their own interests suddenly start paying more attention, dropping hints and holding their breath as it were.
then there are the invitations.

By the way, I was told it is on April 12th, for those who asked. Be prepared, those of you who still have to deal with witnesses regularly.
