Is it just me, or does it sound like they want to start disfellowshipping people for being inactive?

The society never said the end would come in 1975. That's actually true, but I have an answer for it: The society doesn't actually say anywhere that you can't have a beard. The society doesn't actually say that anyone is disfellowshipped (So and so is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses). They also don't ever say a lot of the things that you will see every witness doing. It's an easy argument to win, because if someone pushes it hard enough, you can turn it around and show them that they just proved you can live very different from the witnesses and not go against what the society says.

Since your spouse is going to die at Armageddon, can we agree to date?
by free2beme inmy sister was always married to a nonbeliever as a witness, which means that her husband would die at armageddon and she would need to look into another mate.
so when thinking about this, i remember a few in the kingdom hall that were attractive males and females, that had spouses that would die at armageddon for being nonbelievers.
so wouldn't it make sense, since we did believe this, to court these ones and explain that after their spouse gets the holy crap beat out of them for their lack of faith, that we would like to be first in line for some possible dating in the new system.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Willyloman!!!! j/k
It does eat at me, though. I already know that some of the guys are overly friendly with her, even the elder who keeps trying to call me always gives her puppy dog eyes (his wife has severe depression and he is known for having a problem with porn). I don't know what to do about it, though. I guess I could insist that she not go, but I hate to go that route because I feel like I will look the like the dumb stereotype of the opposed unbelieving mate.
sigh......

I think about that mentality a lot - My wife goes to the hall by herself and she is very attractive. There are tons of single guys her age at her congregation. I know she has no interest, but it drives me nuts knowing that people at the hall probably view her as almost single.

Well, I read your post so I guess it wasn't removed!
But I just want to say - Ray Franz never left the organization? Am I missing something here? Or do you mean he was put out before he left on his own? It seems to me he tried hard to make changes in the org rather than leave, but he was kicked out. Maybe I am wrong; I haven't finished the book yet.

JWs and the movie "The Village"
by jstalin ini was thinking, on my way to work this morning, that the movie the village is a lot like the jws.
in the movie, several families live in a false 1800s village in the middle of the forest that only a few people knew was fake.
in order to keep the villagers in line, they created a fake monster that would roam the woods at night and scare the crap out of people, so no one dared leave.

I thought exactly the same thing when I watched it. I was just starting to question everything I believed in and that movie really shook me up. Seeing other people so controlled just by fear and indoctrination - it hit home for me. I said something to my wife and she didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

Family Funeral
by jws inmy uncle died this morning.
it wasn't so much of a surprise.
he's past 80, has been in a nursing home the past few months, and has lost most of his memory, even forgetting who his wife was at times.

I'm sorry for your loss. The jw mentality is especially screwed up when it comes to this stuff. My friend just killed himself while he was DA'd, so of course there could be no funeral at the kingdom hall (of course? how insane is that?). There was an outside funeral at a school, but the parents still called the society to find out what was allowed. After that call, they decided not to let anyone get up and speak, for fear that someone might say something about heaven or the afterlife that might contrast with jw teaching.
It is so sick and twisted, but just know that it is the cult mentality coming through over your dad's real personality. Set the example and go, imo.
Best wishes.

Ways to get disfellowshipped??
by beautifulisfree ini am looking for a creative or a usaul way to get my turn at being disfellowshipped.
i was a witness that married a 'worldly' guy.
so, basically i can do anything i want and not get disfellowshipped.

I don't know if this has been said, but the route I am thinking about taking is to openly associate with any df'd or da'd friends you have. This will get you df'd real quick, and I think it is a good one for making other people think. I already hang out with my df'd buddy, but all I would have to do is show up around the right witnesses with him and I would be df'd quick.
