  Lexical changes in JW judicial system

  i don't know if it has been discussed here, but i feel that due to the growing influence of its "legal eagles" the wt is changing a lot of its "judicial terminology" lately.

  one major change was the wording of the announcement for d'f'ng or d'a'ng ("x is no longer a member of jehovah's witnesses" or something to that effect).. from very recent french documents i came across, it appears the term "excommunication" is regularly used instead of "disfellowshipping," and "committee of religious discipline" instead of "judicial committee".

  has the same trend been observed in the english-speaking community?

  I don't know of any other changes here except for the announcement, but I found that change to be extremely significant. In fact, that was one thing that caused me to leave. By using that announcement, they can now claim that they never "disfellowshipped" the person, even though the congregation will still use that term and will still be expected to enforce it by shunning. If legal trouble arises, I would expect that they can now claim "we never disfellowshipped that individual. they merely ceased to be a member of Jehovah's Witnesses"

  Meanwhile, the congregation will still refer to him/her as "disfellowshipped" and will still enforce the shunning that goes with the term. I was active at the time I first heard the announcement and it struck me as very slippery.

  What Is A Religious Cult

  of course a cult is basically when people get together and follow what ever it may be.

  now when we come to religions...anything can go...why?

  As a struggling JW, how easy was it to dismiss the Mormonism Truth claim?

  i am running into a few people on this board who are really struggling with trying to leave the jehovah's witnesses.

  i want to post a question that might be beneficial.

  if you struggled with leaving the jehovah's witnesses, why didn't you struggle with the mormon exclusivity claim?

  That's a good point. Those of us who struggled during our exit worried only that Jehovah as we had been taught to know him would think badly of us. We did not worry that the Mormon version of God had never liked us according to their teaching. Or how about the Jesus that some believe is God? According to that belief, we had been worshipping wrong and displeasing him. Or what about Ahura Mazda, the central god of Zoroastrians? As a witness, I'm sure none of us were quite getting it right as far as good old Mazda was concerned. It helps to show how deeply one can be indoctrinated.

  You Aren't Good Enough to Spend Time With Us, But Your Money Is Just Fine

  am i the only one here who has non-jw and jw siblings who exclude you from "family" social events, but see nothing wrong with asking you to contribute a significant amount of money toward gifts for jw parents who instigate your exclusion from family social events?.

  quite frankly, i'm pissed off about this most recent request and i'm planning on ignoring it.

  why should i give $200 of my hard earned wages to people who won't permit me in their home or speak to me?

  Scully, I feel for you. What ever happened with this?

  A while back I posted about my friend who killed himself. Well, my mom was pushing for all of us to send money to help the family with expenses and to help his estranged wife get a car. I was fine with sending money, but my mom insisted that we pool money and send one check. I was uncomfortable with that, because I know that I am able to contribute the larger portion of the money, and my sister probably would not be able to contribute at all, but it would look as though it was even. It's not that I care so much about getting the credit - but my friend's family has contributed to nasty rumours about me, including saying that I don't even go to work and my family has to run my business for me. Considering that I am having more financial success than the rest of my family, it just hit me wrong.

  It's sad, but I think this situation is terribly common. There is a precedent, if you think about it. Is there anyone who is not allowed to contribute money to the WTS?

  when i was in nyc in spiring of 1999 (there on biz) i asked a bethelite friend who was the biggest pain to the wts and he said randy watters and his bethel ministries.

  i flew home to oregon and i read everything on randy at www.freeminds.org (watchers of the watchtower world).

  truly a life saver for me and my family!

  Randy's exit story was one of the first things I found on the net, and the biggest reason I stopped going to meetings - along with Gary Busselman's writings and Quotes website. I just ordered and received Crisis of Conscience through Randy's website. All the best to you, Randy!

  It seems to me that those who claim they have had prayers answered are asserting an arrogance so vast it is almost "divine".

  I agree with Starting Over. If I were to say that my prayer for a new job, etc. were answered, I am basically saying that even the mundane aspects of my life are much more important than the suffering and deaths of others. I have heard the argument that we cannot understand the reasons for what God does. If that is the case, then we cannot understand how to worship or pray to him/it/her.
