  Question for you all

  i was wondering if anyone has ever felt like they were in a relationship where the person is an empty bottle with holes in the bottom, and you are constantly trying to fill them up?

  i was listening to the song not the doctor by alanis and it triggered this in my brain.

  i would love to know everyones thoughts and experiences on this..... steph

  Boozy, there are lots and lots of available women, and, to my surprise, it's turned out that a goodly number of them don't have major issues going on. It's just plain unfair to yourself to stay in a onesided relationship when there's so much more out there to be had!

  Joe, according to the WBTS explanation, that rainbow would have been the first one, because that was the first time it ever rained. Before that, there was a big cloud canopy all around the earth, so that sunlight did not shine directly down. And the plants were watered by a heavy dew that formed at night.

  If you're going to accept the flood story as truthful long enough to expose the rainbow story as false, then you've got to accept the context too... which makes the rainbow story plausible.

  Speaking of Holes

  well i posted the post about holes in bottles when dealing with relationships.

  well my mother must have known i was talking about her.

  i have not talked to her since sept. 11, and that was becaue i called her because i was upset and really wanted family to be there, but she was just yelling at me for not stopping to see her the week before.

  If you're talking about your mom, then I missed the call in my post in your other thread. I told you to just end the relationship. Sorry, you can't do that with a mom. I thought you were still going on about the needy, clingy girlfriend. I've had a couple of those, myself... they want to latch onto you and suck all your energy out for their use. Damn 'em; let 'em muster their own energy, or go find somebody more willing to be used and suckered than I am.

  It is sooooo tiresome to see Rex always posting stuff that purports to present the atheist's thinking, completely misses it, shoots down the incorrect presentation, and declares itself the winner of some fight.

  Description of Straw Man
  The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern:

  Person A has position X.
  Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
  Person B attacks position Y.
  Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.

  This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because attacking a distorted version of a position simply does not constitute an attack on the position itself. One might as well expect an attack on a poor drawing of a person to hurt the person.

  People die, too. They leave, whether through death or choice or circumstance. Any channels of support they provide--love, self-worth, happiness--will close at their leaving, and that supply will exist only in memory. Best to get your answers from within yourself. You are the one person who can never leave... and the most likely candidate for a friend and supporter. Unconditional love of self is difficult if you're trained and experienced in self-deprecation. But training can be overridden; habit can be broken.

  It's a wonderful thing not to need anyone's love; to accept it as offered if offered, and its absence if not. True unconditional love doesn't exist until true love of self does.

  My activity in opposing them extends only to this board and to selected conversations. I'm tied to them by having a son still in. I was the only member of my family ever to take an interest in the religion, and as such don't have any other family members in than the one I raised in it (dammit! dammit! dammit!). If it weren't for him, I would probably be a little less concerned about what happens in the org, and a little more vocal about what few things do concern me.

  I consider the organization to be detrimental to the emotional and mental health of every one of its members. I see it as murderous and totally self-serving, devouring its adherents and spitting their remains out like fish bones. However, I believe there are other, more evil organizations than the WBTS--the Ku Klux Klan and the Mafia, for a couple of instances--and yet I do not feel compelled to fight against those. Why should I fight against the Watchtower, then? I will warn whomever I can, whenever what I consider a good opportunity arises. For the rest, well... our lives are in our own hands. I preach personal responsibility, when I preach. They'll just have to muster the willpower to examine their situation, and the sense to recognize it for what it is. I can't do that for them.

  Life is for the living. I'm getting my full share. Hope you all are, too!
