an Awake from 1993!?

okay, i am in the library at my college and seriously, five minutes ago i was walking past some tables in the building right outside the library, these are tables where people just sit and hang out and talk, and sitting on the table was an issue of awake from 1993!

why on earth is someone passing that out?

it is like pretty old looking, some of the pages stick (gross) and some of the pages are like bent over (dog-earred).

Ooh, I forgot to even think of the fact that this one will still say "before the generation of 1914 passes away." I forgot about that entirely! Good ideas, guys! I'm going to look for whoever's leaving this stuff on campus and point it out to them...I still have it in my backpack... it's strange that the Watchtower even realized it was time to change that part in the Awake magazines but that the dubs passing them out don't care or even notice if it says that, as long as they get their points for placing them. Thanks for answering, guys, I honestly didn't know JWs pass out old issues like that... guess I just never encountered it before!

LOL who came up with the "warning: cult reading material" stickers idea? That's too funny... I wonder if I could make some of those on the computer somehow? Could probably just use address labels... whenever I find Watchtowes and Awakes I usually take them and flip through them (but I refuse to leave them there for anyone else to find)... sometimes if I'm in a bad mood I will stand there and shred them to pieces (the first rip is usually kind of hard to do)...

I agree with what Scully said... it does seem many JWs are attention whores. Everyone that I've ever talked to about them says that they just HATE to be ignored. The JWs I know, especially this one lady, is CONSTANTLY telling everyone that she is sick, she has a headache, she's dizzy... just to get someone to pay attention to her. She doesn't know how to get attention any other way so that's what she resorts to... being a hypochondriac. It was really stupid of your sister to just show up without telling anyone. It was definitely planend. She obviously KNEW that after not talking to anyone for years, people were going to make a big deal over her, go up to her, hug her, try to tidy the house for her... she just wanted to watch everyone make a big deal over her and then to treat everyone like crap.

If you celebrate Christmas, do you belief in Christ?

i celebrate christmas each year and do no consider myself a christian in any way.

my spouse does not either and we are raising our son to be non-christian.

so why do i celebrate christmas, because i can.

Like some people have said, it's what you make of it. Some people do celebrate the Christian aspect of it much more... even if it has "pagan" roots or was originally celebrated as a pagan holiday (solstice celebrations, etc) that doesn't mean that someone can't celebrate it as a Christian holiday now. Some people focus totally on the secular aspect, but some people make it a day dedicated to remembering the birth of their Savior Jesus Christ. So it can be what you make of it... if you want it to be secular, then you can just celebrate the secular part of it I guess. And if you want it to be Christian, you can use that day as a day to celebrate Jesus' birth as well. It's up to you and it really doesn't matter what it has its roots in. I use the names of the days of the month and the days of the week everyday in my conversation... but I am pretty sure I could still use the month of July or the day of Monday or whatever to honor Jesus if I wanted to.

Okay, I am in the library at my college and seriously, FIVE MINUTES ago I was walking past some tables in the building right outside the library, these are tables where people just sit and hang out and talk, and sitting on the table was an issue of Awake from 1993! 1993!? Why on earth is someone passing that out? It is like pretty old looking, some of the pages stick (gross) and some of the pages are like bent over (dog-earred). It's the April 8, 1993 issue of Awake and it has this "scientist" guy on the cover and it says "Science: Can It Meet Our Needs?" I can't believe I found that. haha I must have been placed in its path purposely so that I could pick it up and discard it. I am just wondering... does this happen often? Do JWs frequently pass out issues from over a decade ago? Of all of the times I have found their stupid Watchtowers and Awakes in doctor's offices and random places, they have always been very recent issues... I haven't ever seen anything like this before. I am thinking that maybe they decided to place this issue with the topic of SCIENCE in our school because perhaps they think that people at my school are too obsessed with science or something and are relying on it too much, or maybe they think that the picture of the scientist will really hook some college students, lol. However, I have foiled their plan! Maybe I should take a stroll across campus to see if they have placed them anywhere else? Alright, well I was just wondering if anyone else finds old issues placed around ever, cause I never have before.

OKAY...I saw that whole thing and it was pretty much the sickest thing I could have imagined. HOW MANY of these people are out there? That's so sick... you guys, just think, there could be people like that on this message board right now. I mean, they were everything from freaking unemployed slackers to special ed teachers to doctors to rabbis (who counsel families and children, I might add) to that guy who's in the army to whatever the heck else. And they ALL said this was the first time they were doing it. Oh my gosh, people are so SICK. I have a question, and it might sound so stupid, but WHY are men so much sicker than women in that way? Yes, I know there are some exceptions (like that Mary Kay lady who slept with her 12 year old boy student and now they're married) but I mean in general why are men always the sick ones? That seriously made me almost throw up. I was also quite ready to cry. It could be ANYONE... anyone you meet, any doctor you see, any counselor you see, any teacher, any attorney, any bum... they could all be sick child molesting perverts! That show proved to me that there are a lot more sick people than I thought! There's millions and millions. It's really sick and it makes me just so disgusted with humanity.

Penton & the drama this year

in the book apocalypse delayed by james penton he describes a 'drama' on pg 101-. the greatest emphasis was again placed on the preaching work, and jesus was described as a pioneer.in an assembly drama or 'morality play' on the apostle paul's companion timothy, young persons fresh from high school were strongly discouraged from attending academies of higher learning, and an always laten watch tower animosity towrads university education bacame more evident.. this sounds just like the drama from this summer.

i was under the impression that some jw's thought this was a new drama.

do they just recycle this stuff all the time?

this is my first halloween as a free man .

so i looked up the word halloween and discovered some really cool things.

for instance, the word comes from "all hallows eve", because of being the night before the feast of martyrs (all saints day).

i was reading popular science and i staggered across a line that suggested that russia had never landed men on the moon.

that struck me as blatantly false, i knew i'd seen footage of cosmonauts on the moon.

this isn't a negative observation at all, but i've noticed with all the new people here, there are a lot of things i remember being said before being said again.

some of the things i assumed when i first came here, many are doing again...and it's very interesting to watch.

i guess the human race is very cyclical.

I am a newbie (obviously)... so sorry if I say things that everyone else has already discussed, etc. I don't mean to bore anyone or anything! Who is defd, anyways? A JW? Was he disfellowshipped? (Sorry, I am still so new that I don't know everything that goes on yet)... it's weird, though, that if that's who he is, he takes it upon himself to go on an ex-JW site when I'm sure the Society that he loves so much and preaches to everyone about would disapprove of what he's doing... but if he's here, good for him, maybe it will get him to think.
