'..know it is not the truth...'. You want your friend to leave because he discovers it is 'not the truth'? Such phrases are meaningless. Every religion has some truth and some falsehood. There is truth and falsehood everywhere, inside and outside of religion. Can you prove the JW's don't teach many things that are in fact true? Now it is suddenly a matter of life and death for him to leave?

The web each JW weaves makes it too difficult to leave
by jwfacts ini just found out that a jw friend of mine has just formed a company with several jws, including some of my relatives.
i know he realises it is probably not the truth but had put on hold doing anything about it for the sake of his wife.
now there is little hope of him leaving for some time.

Laying the groundwork for dumping the "1935 anointed cutoff" date?
by sir82 inthe next domino to fall in the society's muddled chronology-based teachings is very likely to be the concept that the "general call" for anointed members of the 144,000 ended in 1935, when the "great crowd" was identified.
after 2+ decades of seeing the number of "memorial partakers" hover in the mid-8000's, when actuarially speaking the number can't really be more than a few hundred at most, the society needs to do something (as in, change the teaching, just as the passing of time necessitated a change to the "1914 generation" teaching).. at our circuit assembly this past weekend, i heard something which makes me think the society may already be laying the groundwork for this "new light".
the public talk included "4 lines of evidence" that we are living in "the last days".

"4) Positive changes in Jehovah's org. (Isa. 2:4, preaching work Matt. 24:14, etc.)" - Can't quite see how those scriptures connect with the idea of 'positive changes in Jehovah's org.' The preaching work done by JW's that Isa 2:4 and Matt 24:14 is meant to foretell is not a 'change in' the organisation, it is something they have always done; in fact it is the stated objective of the organisation. Are you sure you have got point number 4 correct? If point 4 is indeed referring to the new idea of changes within the organisation being an evidence, as opposed merely to the global preaching done by JW's (surely a different evidence altogether), then that would seem to be quite a startling new 'proof' that the end is near! If that was true then could the Society be setting everyone up for some glorious 'new light' soon, portraying it in advance to be evidence in itself of the nearness of the systems end? Imagine that - every time the Society brings out 'new light' or makes a few changes in the organisation, JW's become convinced that the end of the world is nigh. They are crafty those old guys at Patterson.

How do you combat laziness?
by AlmostAtheist ini didn't say "unmotivated" or "lacking direction" or any of the other euphemisms i typically apply to it.
i said what i meant, and i do mean it.. but i can't imagine it has to be this way.
surely there's something i can do to combat it.

Try reading "In Praise of Idleness" by Bertrand Russell - google it now and enjoy it. The term 'lazy' is largely used today as a pejorative to make people feel guilty for not matching Society's largely harsh and unhealthy objectives for the masses, ie, keep people enslaved to working long hours in largely meaningless occupations and feeling guilty and ashamed for not doing something 'productive'. Ancient slavery has been replaced by wage slavery, often minimum wage that renders people barely incapable of rising above the poverty line. The truth is that humans are naturally meant to be somewhat idle, like the animals. There is absolutely no economic reason why any human being should have to work more than about 20 hours a week - many researchers predicted that by now this would have occurred, but alas, we are still languishing in out of date thinking about what makes life important (mortgages, big houses, big cars, latest digital technology, latest big brand fashion accessories - ALL BOLLOX). Life today is unnaturally pressured, complex, fast, with too many expectations heaped on people's shoulders. Stop feeling guilty about being lazy but constructively enjoy it.

Possible clue to the "Big" Announcement!!
by Lady Liberty inmy husband, the black pearl, had a interesting conversation with his mother today.
she was trying to be all kiss butt nice, for today that is, to tell him about the new tract that is coming out in october.
apparently they don't have it yet.

I'm 99% sure you are right. The special tract and campaign is what the so-called 'big announcement' is. This is what Arthur's elder friend who knew a GB member who said that there was going to be some announcement this month and a lot of people are not going to like it, was talking about. Everyones got steamed up over nothing, thanks to a bit of hearsay. But you never know...there are still 24 days left in October lol.

It seems rather bizarre that he defends so rigorously the JW's use of the name "Jehovah" as some kind of hallmark of their uniquely being true Christians, yet he also says that 'Jesus is Jehovah'????????????? To say that Jesus is Jehovah, in any sense, is anathema to JWs. But if he is actually correct that somehow Jesus became Jehovah, (despite rejecting the trinity) then surely that disproves his first point. In other words, if Jesus somehow absorbed and superceded the use of the name 'Jehovah', then surely it must be acceptable to Jehovah for persons to revere God and Jesus without any reference to Jehovah at all!!! That of course allows for true Christians to exist outside the organisation.

SHOCKING!
by Dansk ini just managed to see the last 15 minutes or so of the 'tonight with trevor mcdonald' programme on british tv.
it concerned young children under 12 who had their blood tested and it was found they all had (at least those i saw) high levels of toxic chemicals in their blood.
one family ate organic produce and were generally the "healthy" type and yet their daughter had the highest levels of certain chemicals than others in the study.. a toxicologist said that although the chemicals were high we shouldn't worry too much as they are twice as high in the usa!!!.

to get rid of cancer take: vitamin b17 (can get from a type of apricot kernal, often available from health shops, or injected) www.worldwithoutcancer.org.uk, eat some Brazil nuts daily (for organic selenium), and stop drinking all hot drinks but just mainly fresh water, and get lots of fresh air, to oxygenate your cells again.

The end of the 2006 (dis)Service Year / Statistics
by Skimmer inyesterday was the last day of the wtbts 2006 (dis)service year.
are there any posters here with inside information as to what we can expect?
some five years ago i predicted that 2006 would be the peak year for the wtbts and i'm not changing my forecast.

They will keep getting modest increases right up to 2014; after that year statistics will slowly but increasingly go into decline.

Just get a JW relative to mail them to you once a month. That's what I did.
