What are the Elders thinking? What are JW's thinking?
by Fisherman inthere was a time when most jw's solemly believed that the "end" was comming in their life time, that the preaching work was a life saving work and the most important work on earth and that the wts was god's organization, god's agency, the only channel of communication on earth.
i think that most jws today somewhat still vagely believe that now but i wonder, what is going on in the minds and hearts of the jws today?
what is everyone thinking?

Have you been love bombed or practiced this technique?

Love-bombing was invented by the Moonies. JW's practice nothing like the Moonie version. I was a JW for over 30 years and I never saw any new one especially 'love-bombed' in any manner even remotely resembling the Moonies practice. Actually JW's are generally told to keep new ones at a kind of arms length until they become at least unbaptized publishers. There are quotes in the kingdom ministries that will show this. I've been to quite a few churches since leaving and, frankly, they were just as guilty of 'love-bombing' me as the JW's ever have.

The Society seems to have completely failed to understand the difference between honest scriptural interpretation and speculative/presumptous prognostication. At least William Miller had the decency to give up after 1844.

"The Gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Nothing more needs to be or should be added." A gross simplification, and anyway what does that have to do with the Trinity? The LAST thing a website should focus on when trying to get other JW's to realise that something may be amiss with their religion is the Trinity.

Yawn, another ex-jw website promoting the trinity. Why is it so important for ex-JW's to convince JW's they must believe the trinity? And what is Cal Lehman talking about here: "For a few years wire-rimmed glasses were condemned. If a person came into a Kingdom Hall with wire rims, that individual would have to sit down for a conference. He would be told, "We notice you are wearing wire rims. You are falling out of the truth. We are concerned about this. We think you need help." Wire-rimmed glasses?? I've never heard that one before.

Amos 3:7 (Jehovah reveals to his prophets first) + 2007 Year's Text

he asked me what i thought of the 2007 year's text.
i said it would be nice if jehovah did intervene soon, but that i felt that the society is wrong to be constantly telling everyone how 'near' the end of the system is, that they have been doing this for over 120 years, and that we should just focus on being good christians without always thinking the end is close all the time.

Was speaking to a JW friend the other day (he knows I have 'doubts'). He asked me what I thought of the 2007 Year's Text. I said it would be nice if Jehovah did intervene soon, but that I felt that the Society is wrong to be constantly telling everyone how 'near' the end of the system is, that they have been doing this for over 120 years, and that we should just focus on being good Christians without always thinking the end is close all the time. Earlier in the conversation he had said that the Governing Body were not inspired or infallible (when I mentioned 1975, 'this generation', etc). When talking about the 2007 year's text he mentioned Amos 3:7 and implied that the years text was, in effect, Jehovah telling us through the Society that the end is just around the corner!! He also felt the special Tract campaign about false religion's end being near was another divine 'hint'. (Amos 3:7 says "For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets.) He started talking about all the trouble in the middle East and how the end must be really close now. I just had to smile, as he obviously missed the glaring contradiction in saying the Society are not inspired but that Jehovah speaks through the Society in the manner of Amos 3:7! It rammed home how many JW's idolise the Governing Body. It is hard to deny that the Governing are viewed by the rank and file as modern-day prophets, just like the Mormon leaders are viewed. If you ask a JW whether the GB are modern-day prophets they will say 'No' emphatically, but if you ask them who Jehovah reveals new divine information through, they will say through the Society only (ie, the Governing Body). Just what is the difference? Later I went home and read Amos 3. It struck me that the entire prophecy is about the deplorable condition of the Israelites, who were Jehovah's Witnesses back then, right? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Just an "uninteresting" question on "Whose voice'?"

the bible is read on cassettes and in mp3 format, some of the major books are on cd and cassette, some booklets on cd and cassette - who are the readers?
i know swingle read some, but what?

I do know that the voice on the old 'Great Teacher' book cassettes is brother Jack Barr of the Governing Body (little old Scottish man). I also heard that he wrote that book. Have to admit it's about my favourite WT publication that little pink book.
