This is very interesting.
Maybe I'm thick but how would this new discovery lend support to the argument that the 607 date for Jerusalem's destruction is wrong?

Old Testament figure named on 2600-year-old tablet
by whereami ini wonder if this will do anything to help settle the 607 vs' 587 debate.. the british museum yesterday hailed a discovery within a clay tablet in its collection as a breakthrough for biblical archeology - proof of the accuracy of the old testament.. .
the cuneiform inscription in a tablet dating from 595bc has been deciphered for the first time - revealing a reference to an official at the court of nebuchadnezzar, king of babylon, that proves the historical existence of a figure mentioned in the book of jeremiah.
it is rare evidence in a non-biblical source of a real person, other than kings, featured in the bible.

The things that are Wrong with being a JW

if you do not have time to read it all can you please just scan the headings and tell me if there is anything that i have missed.. .

Had a quick read and looks very good. However, further to what agreemachine said, perhaps it would be more accurate to say "MOST Followers do not receive Holy Spirit" and "MOST Followers do not have Jesus as mediator".
The way you have written it suggests that NO JW's receive the HS or have Jesus as a mediator, when of course they believe that a remnant of them do.
Cheers

Has being a Witness made it hard for you to love Jesus?
by jwfacts inwhenever i hear the word jehovah i still feel warm and fuzzy.
he was the god that i spent hours talking to in prayer, petitioning, thanking, pleading with.
he was my father, the creator, the one who we would worship for eternity.. jesus on the other hand i never spoke or prayed to.

I always felt a bit confused and ambivalent about both Jehovah and Jesus, when I was a JW and still now. Jehovah is often an angry, vengeful God, yet at times he seems patient, generous, and willing to overlook humans stupid mistakes. Jesus is clearly portrayed as much more loving, merciful and gracious than Jehovah in the OT is, but the dichotomy has always bothered me and left me struggling to feel genuine love for Jehovah, who appears somewhat schizophrenic in scripture. Jesus at least seems much more consistent, loveable and kindly.
But I still find it hard to have real, deep love for anyone who is so aloof and distant. What has Jesus done for anyone in the last 2,000 years? I know the JW's have answers for that about the issue of universal sovereignty, etc, but still, I find it impossible to really love such a distant figure sitting out there in some other dimension seemingly so blaze about all the terrible suffering and wickedness that has gone on the last 2,000 years. I love what I read about what Jesus purportedly did all those centuries ago, but I find it impossible to love someone purely on reputation only and mere promises for the future. Love has to be based on actions, not words and concepts. So many Christians go on about how much Jesus has helped them with this and that but has he really? But what about all the countless millions in the world who got no help from Jesus? All the extreme emotion displayed by so many contemporary Christians, who swear Jesus is a real, living, helping influence in their life - I just don't feel that at all, despite many attempts to 'get it'. It always ends up feeling like maudlin and sentimentalism.
So I'd say my love for Jehovah and Jesus is more or less dormant, unfertilized. If and when they intervene to save the world and end wickedness I will be the first to get down on my knees, open my heart to them, and cry tears of joy. I guess I need a bit more than an ancient book to make me really 'love' someone. -

Mormon lady shocked at JW disfellowshipping policy
by yaddayadda inwas talking to a mormon friend about the jw policy of shunning disfellowshipped persons.
she was pretty shocked to hear that jw totally ignore disfellowshipped ones, not even saying hello, even family members.
told her that you have to spend months attending their meetings to grovel your way back and the whole time no one talks to you, not a word.

Thanks for your replies. Yes it would be interesting to know what the policy is of other churches that are kinda similar to JW's.
Does anyone know what the Seventh Day Adventists and Christadelphians do?

All that JW's are good for is seeing things from from a 'legal' perspective. Relax, it's just bravado and hot air. Desperate threats from desperate JW's. Why are they even looking at your video if they are so loyal to the Society? Methinks they doth protest too much.

Was talking to a Mormon friend about the JW policy of shunning disfellowshipped persons. She was pretty shocked to hear that JW totally ignore disfellowshipped ones, not even saying hello, even family members. Told her that you have to spend months attending their meetings to grovel your way back and the whole time no one talks to you, not a word. She said "but that's humiliating!"
I asked her what policy the Mormons have. They said Mormons have both disfellowshipping and excommunicating (can't quite recall what the difference is but the latter is worse as it involves a kind of judicial committee and you are officially removed from the roll of Mormons) but in both cases NO ONE knows except the top dudes in your local church. It is kept confidential from the rest of the flock. It only affects the disfellowshipped or expelled Mormon in that they are not allowed to tithe anymore or get involved in certain activities. But otherwise there is no announcement and you are treated the same as normal. You are never shunned by other mormons unless you request no contact.
And if a Mormon becomes inactive, ie, stops attending their services, the elders in the church visit them ONCE A MONTH until the person is activated again or requests the visits to stop. And others in the church will often do little things to encourage you to come back, eg, leaving kind notes and cakes at your door.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn all this. Funny how a 'false religion' clearly has a much more loving, merciful policy for how it deals with congregation members struggling with sin than JW's. Seems to me that Mormons are fulfilling John 13:35 in this matter much better than JW's are.

ANNOUNCEMENT: "Special" Awake! for November. Confidential ;-)

These special articles, etc, are really nothing but ordinary, run of the mill stuff with an extra coat of varnish. This is done purely to boost JW morale. Most of them are bored out of their skulls from all the years of monotonous meetings saying the same thing over and over so these pathetic morsels of excitement that the WTS feeds them are about the only excitement they get. Sad.
