Hi Nathan. Nope, never heard of him, but he could have been? I was only in the congo for a few months, many years ago, while overseas on holiday, and was wondering about some old friends there (Proctor family).

Tips For Folks Who Can't Completely Fade From The "Truth"
by metatron innot everyone is fortunate enough to be able to fade away from the "truth".
lots of people.
are stuck, for various reasons, with the continuing pretense of still "being in the truth".. there are, however, ways to make this annoyance more bearable.

I like shaking my head disapprovingly when the speaker utters some crap about 1914 or something like that. During the Watchtower I enjoy writing my own comments in the margin when I spot some crap, eg, big question marks or "WRONG!!!!" in big letters, hehe. It's a great work-out for sharpening the critical reasoning skills.

The reinstated people of stockholm
by stevenyc ini was scanning some jdup info and came across this little video from them, http://www.jw-media.org/vnr/2122827332/311131.htm.
it is a little interview regarding the act of disfellowshiping and reinstatement.
what i found quite interesting is the quote from a young woman who was reinstated, and its similarity to stockholm syndrome.

"The temporal expression, heos acts as the terminus of the conditional statement. ---'A' will not happen UNTIL 'B' happens
Here it's obvious that the negation of event 'A' demands its temporal posteriority relative to event 'B' "
HUH? translation into English please.

Article criticising Mennonites for shunning
by kwintestal inin the last few months there was an article in the wt or asleep!
about the mennonites or amish, and it mentioned how awful it was that these groups shunned members.. i can't for the life of me find it on this site, or on watchtower.org .
i need this for a project i'm working on.

"During World War I, differences of opinion about the world's conflicts caused major divisions. Many in North America refused military service on Biblical grounds."
I thought that was interesting too re the Mennonites. JW's reckon they are the only religious group that as a whole wouldn't go to war.

Es, you said "my boss is a classic drunk". I took that to mean he might be an alcholic. If you were referring to just an occasional drunken night out then I apologise. Many managers are actually alcoholics and their families suffer. They have lots of workmates and colleagues that don't make it easy for them to be more moderate.

Is it possible for the WT society to ever convince us of true reform?
by james_woods ini got to thinking about this and for me anyway, they would have to come clean on at least the following things:.
an honest retraction must be made on all the ridiculous chronology (of course including the false prophecies).
by this i mean, stop this psuedo numerology stuff of adding up this or that date, adding on x many years, etc.

Where do u start?
They need to reform: The 2 witness rule re child abuse allegations; their blood policy; their disfellowshipping policy; the amount of power and control the GB has; how they spend their countless millions.
They need to totally drop: The whole 1914 thing; some meetings per week; field service reports and 'door-to-door' style preaching; the Awake magazine; constantly saying the end of this system is near.
After all of the above they might just start to resemble something more akin to first century christianity IMHO.
