7 what is the truth about god?

"7 Worse yet, religious teachers sometimes lead people to think that God is hardhearted. How so? When tragedy strikes, they say that it is God’s will."
Isn't the slaughter by God of 99% of humankind at Armageddon a tragedy that JW's say is 'God's will'? -

Im annoyed about this
by jambon1 inhaving been out of the org for a while now i have come to realise that when you think about certain viewpoints/activities of jw`s, it can really make you annoyed/upset/angry/laugh etc etc.
one thing that is pissing me off right now and has done for a while, is their attitude towards 'the worlds selfish pursuits'.
how often did you hear that those who seek an education to get a good job are 'seeking glory for themselves' and are doing the wrong thing.

My Last Memorial?
by jojochan inlast night just proved to me just that.
as i sat there last night while the speaker kept going on,.
and on, i zoned out.

thanks for sharing that Jojochan. I could really relate to your heartfelt reflections, expressed so poetically. I also thought the very same thing as I quietly walked out into the dark, feeling like a fish out of water, unnoticed by everyone standing around feeling so good about themselves. I was once one of them. I was once inside, self-satisfied, looking out. It hit me then that I would never be like that again, come what may. It was my last memorial too.

INACTIVE....FOR ALL TO SEE!!!!!!
by Gill inmy husband and myself have not been to a meeting for over 4 years now.. we learnt last night from my sister that our names are still pinned on a list of inactive publishers on the notice board at the back of the kh along with about 15 others!!!!!.
i'm totally gobsmacked having considered ourselves successful faders!!!!.
what the hell do they think they're playing at?!!

I think it's a great idea and it should be official policy in every congo. Just think about it...more and more JW's are getting tired and becoming inactive....therefore the list is going to get longer and longer, never shorter. So anyone thinking of also becoming inactive will find great encouragement to go and look at the list, knowing he is not alone. In fact, they might feel like getting in touch with one of the inactive ones on the list to find out why they became inactive, and if any of those inactive ones are now 'apostates' they will have a lot of useful information to share that will motivate others to also become inactive.
I think they should also stick up a list of 'apostates'....

New Invitations for the "Deliverance at Hand" DC
by dorayakii in.
the front of this new watchtower-sized invitation features a common painting of the jw paradise and the theme of his years distirct convention, "deliverance at hand" emblazened across the front.
it looks like they're trying to work up armageddon fervour again.. .

What is it with their obsession with the end of the world. Talk about shameless carrot dangling. It's nothing but spiritual materialism. It's spiritual lotto, where no matter how many years of flushing your hard-earned money down the toilet on lotto tickets you just have to keep buying them cause you know that the week you stop your numbers will come up. They just can't help themselves, like a gambler. They just have to keep hammering this 'end is nigh' crap ad nauseum like they always have for the past 120 years because as soon as they stop it will probably come, yea right.
Hey, you apostates should go along and hand out fliers with this scripture on it:
"Look out that you are not misled; for many will come....saying,...."The due time has approached.' Do not go after them". Luke 21:8

What does 'accurate knowledge' have to do with worship and praise?
by AK - Jeff innot that the jdubs have the 'accurate knowledge' anyway.
but it seems to me that if i was the creator i would appreciate all who showed appreciation in song and word, no matter the level of accuracy.
just what the hell does that have to do with praising god when you think of it?.
-
yaddayadda
the terms 'accurate knowledge' is pretty much unique to the NWT anyways.
The Society idolises so-called 'accurate knowledge'. It is their mantra. Look through any typical Watchtower magazine and all you see are pictures of dubbies dutifully studying (JW publications). John 17: 3 is more important to them than John 3:16. It would be interesting to find out how many times the word 'knowledge' is used in comparison to Jesus Christ. 'Accurate knowledge' has more to do with JW's personal salvation than Jesus Christ, because it asserts that no matter how much love and faith you have for Christ, it matters not a jot in God's eyes if you do not have 'accurate knowledge' about a few things that JW's consider so absolutely crucial to know! The Society keeps promoting the importance of 'accurate knowledge' ad nauseum because it keeps JW's imagining that they alone are the only religion worshipping in 'spirit and truth' and all other Christians are practising false worship, are thus worthless in God's eyes, and are doomed to destruction.

WT 5/1/06 -Backing Away from 1914? - NO
by TheListener inbacking away from 1914?
i think not.. may 1, 2006 wt third study article on page 27, paragraph 2 and 3 state:.
"2. almost 30 years after that pentecost in 33 c.e., the apostle paul confirmed that christ had not yet taken full kingdom power, but he was "at the right hand of god, from then on awaiting until his enemies should be placed as a stool for his feet.

"Whether we are anointed "ambassadors substituting for Christ" or are envoys with earthly hopes, we should never forget that this is Jehovah’s work, not ours. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)"
Where on earth do they get this idea of a separate 'envoy' class? There is only one occurence in the whole of the NT of the word 'envoy' in the NWT (I don't know what other translations say) and that is at Philippians 2:25, which is Paul merely calling Epaphroditus his envoy.
Another fiction?

2 Thess 1:9 (presence or not?)
by yaddayadda inhi, 2 thessalonians 1:9 in the new world translation reads:
"these very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the lord and from the glory of his strength.".
however, many other bible translations render it slightly differently by including the word 'presence' (see below).

Hi, 2 Thessalonians 1:9 In the New World Translation reads:
"These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength."
HOWEVER, many other bible translations render it slightly differently by including the word 'presence' (see below). My question is, can anyone confirm whether the original Greek for this scripture includes the word 'parousia'? I don't have a Greek Interlinear handy. If 'parousia' is indeed there then it would contradict the Society's 1914 'parousia' teaching because 2 Thessalonians chp 1 is quite obviously talking about a future event.
2 Thessalonians 1:9
New International Version
9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power.
New American Standard Version
9 These will pay the penalty of ( A ) eternal destruction, ( B ) away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
Amplified Bible
9 Such people will pay the penalty and suffer the punishment of everlasting ruin (destruction and perdition) and eternal exclusion and banishment from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
English Standard Version
9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from [ a ] the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
Contemporary English Version
9 Their punishment will be eternal destruction, and they will be kept far from the presence of our Lord and his glorious strength.
New King James Version
9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
