More than likely they are to lazy to do the research required and therefore rely on a more knowledgeable entity, rather than to rely on their own understanding. Then there is the simple social aspect of finding a group who thinks like you. many religions, ideas and organizations get started that way.

Why Religion?
by hillary_step ini have no issue with a person having a spiritual dimension, but i wonder why people have difficulty accepting that the religion that an individual makes up inside their head is no more or less worthy than the ones other people have made up in their heads.. why do people feel the need to have others tell them what to believe and how to think?
simplistic though this may sound, this is at the basis of all religion.
does religion scratch the itch of our insecurities?.

In my area of upstate ny...50 miles north of the city our neighbor is trying to sell her 4 bed, 3 bath for $685,000. She has had it on the market for 6 months. 2 years ago she could have sold it for $800,000 and in one week it would be sold.

My thoughts on the Nature of God
by Doug Mason inwhen we speak of the nature of god, we talk of attributes such as his infinite immutable eternal love.
what joy that should fill us with!
how that should elevate our hearts and minds!.

In over 2000 years, we are still waiting for a gift promised to us. The gift is supposed to be everlasting life because of Christ sacrifice. Faith can go on and on...you would think that somewhere in 2000 years that promise would have been delivered.

Where is God when it hurts?
by theistichedonist ini recently read a riveting, but heartrending story in this forum by "tj".
although the story at many points tears at your heart, tj's post is an exceptionally well-written story of his life growing up as a witness.
if you have not read it yet, i would encourage you to do so.

God has left the world for the manipulation of Satan...Doesn't it say that in Revelation. We are being punished for the sin of Adam and Eve.

Steve2 Weenie Challenge
by Farkel insteve2 made some comments about a 10 year old post i made, and i will present them.
although there are numerous typos that could be corrected, his post was much more direct.
: i can see why you've pitched this long and absurdly hard-nosed account at a christian readership.

The US is in Deep sh*t! The worldbank.com might come to the rescue as we are now a country in need, instead of a country giving need. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While the IBRD raises most of its funds on the world's financial markets, IDA is funded largely by contributions from the governments of its richer member countries. Additional funds come from IBRD's and IFC’s income and from borrowers' repayments of earlier IDA credits. Donors meet every three years to replenish IDA funds and review IDA’s policies. The most recent replenishment of IDA’s resources the fourteenth replenishment (IDA14) was finalized in February 2005, and finances projects over the three-year period ending June 30, 2008. Donor contributions account for more than half of IDA14’s SDR 22 billion (US$33 billion) in resources to finance projects, a 25% increase over the previous replenishment and the largest increase in over two decades. Donors met to review IDA14’s progress at a Mid-Term Review meeting held in Washington, DC on November 2006. To increase openness and help ensure that IDA’s policies are responsive to country needs and circumstances, representatives of borrower countries from each IDA region have been invited to take part in the replenishment negotiations since IDA13. The number of borrower representatives was expanded to a total of nine during the IDA14 negotiations. In addition, since IDA13, background policy papers are publicly released, as well as drafts of the replenishment reports prior to their finalization.
