  How soon is soon?

  this week at the study of the revelation book there was a paragraph that said that god's kingdom would soon usher in a. paradise earth.

  i realized that this book was printed 19 years ago.

  my wife excitedly that i am taking her to europe soon would she be happy if i waited 3 years?

We realise that preserving our lives and proving worthy of everlasting life in Gods new world depends on our obeying the command to preach the good news of the established kingdom, because those who do not align themselves on the side of this kingdom will be destroyed in the battle of Armageddon, and according to the divine rule which is given in Ezekiel’s prophesy, chapters 5 and 33, God constitutes as witnesses a watchman class, and he commands this watchman class to give a warning of the coming of the battle of Armageddon, the great executional sword which shall destroy all the adversaries of Jehovah God and of his kingdom by Jesus Christ, and there Jehovah God tells the watchman class that id they fail to warn the wicked of the coming of the executional sword the wicked man shall die all right because of his own wickedness but because he failed to receive a warning at the mouth of the watchman class God will require the blood of the wicked of the watchman's hand......

  When read against the background of the demise of the judiac systems, it makes perfectly sense.

  When read against a different background it is necesary to start looking for something big. And that is exactly what has happend. For 2000 years people have been looking forward so something as the end of times and the lords return. Yet, failed miserably. Including the standing on the treshold JW for more than 130 odd years.

  Though in Jesus's case soon meant within a few minutes or even seconds. Yeah. They really must have an unearthly concept of time.

  perhaps you have been reading this board for awhile, and you may believe some of the things we have been saying, however you are still gripped in fear of armageddon.. .

  the wt society has been predicting armageddon for well over 100 years, and when the prophecies fail, they blame you and say "we never said that".

  The guy did a normal thing anybody in his position would have done whatever the business for ringing a doorbel was. In itself it is a commmendable course of action.

  It turned out to be a 5 minute invite for the memorial on april 2nd. This is not journalism. This is advertising....propaganda if you will.

  Is that the way journalism is heading or is it just a slip of the pen?

  On the upside of things:
  Cheer up JW's! You are becoming the worlds saviors with this door banging.

  Reminds me of something my told me yesterday about the meeting: applying the histories of Jericho and Gideon to the preaching service:

  The soldiers had to march around town. everyday 1x. last day 7x. Why? they were "hardened brave soldiers" who wanted to slice some heads. Is it not stupid for a such a soldier to go marching around town.

  gideon sent home all those who were frightened. Then he sent home the ones who could not drink properly. (so much for civilisation) Leftover: 300 braves. Is it not stupid for those 300 braves to carry vases and torches, just standing there and slamming the vases?

  Conclusion: So we never know what good it will do when we go out in the reaching service. We may not fully understand it but it will turn out good.

  I am sure the braves in our cong will be delighted to see their teachings corroborated with such "fine" experiences. (barf)

  trying to understand

  i do not have any formal education in this area, and so do not know all the terms that go along with my situation, but will do the best i can to describe the confusion i am having.i was raised a jehovah's witness, yes i now realize it is a cult with c.for 39 years i was held captive in this destructive mind control destructive cult.i left and several years ago and so did my wife, she left with me even though many in the cult will let it split up their relationship rather than leave the deluded comfort of their fantasy world.both our parents were raised in this so called religion, as is the norm, once in you are not allowed to date any one outside of the cult, once in you will be excommunicated or as they call it disfellowshiped for any number of infractions, including celebrating any holiday,voting,smoking a cigarette,saying outloud you do not think jehovah's witness are gods sole channel of communication on earth.

  once a jw you can be disfellowshiped for talking to,having dinner with, or in any way socializing with any former member who is now disfelowshipped including your family member,i.e.

  brother,mother,sister,father, uncle ect.my wife's parents live apx.

  I can relate to some of it, especially the part where your dad never spents time iwth you.

  I can remember some instances in which we had a play together. Mostly during the summer holidays for a moment or so. But these are all way back when I was a 4 to 6 year old. When he would spent time with us, it was usually to reprimand us, spank us, or something. He was either working in the office, meeting with the elders, or going on stake out, or combatting rebellion in the cong. I almost forgot: of course he needed to prep for public talks and assembly parts.

  I have 2 kids and one day these two gems of mine were sick and in bed with my wife. He usually never calls but when he does it is always inconvenient. So this time he called on the phone to say that he'd could only do 1 out of 2 things: spent some time with his grandchilderen so now and then or pioneer. If the'd go pioneering they would only have time for us after the big A. Which one would we choose?

  My wife took a very deep breath and said well let's not keep you from pioneering then shall we.

  So the SOB never called in again. At that point I had only one issue left unattended and that was my mothers heritage.

  At that point he had the audacity to challenge my motives. I blew my top. Stepped out of his house and never looked back.

  I tried for 20 odd years to understand the man. I still fail to understand how someone can become so cold towards his own flesh and blood and like your dad, embrace those who are not of his. Maybe in a twisted sort of way, they image they can do what God had done: reject the house of israel and recognize that what had not naturally been sons........I don't know.

  I just laid it at rest. Swept it aside, for to me it is incomprehensible. It drowns my energy away, depresses me and I am walking around for days with just that one issue on my mind untill I find somewhere the point I can look outside and say: look the sun shines, let's go for a walk en enjoy it.

  So, I said so long and dumped the guy and made the fysical distance between him and my little misjpoche as big as possible. I did not send him a change of address, nothing. My brother did not tell him, nor did the rest of my so JW family, although my unkel stongly disagrees with my course of action.

  What I focus on now is to maintain good relationships within my family, focus on the wifey and the kids and to enjoy life with them.

  I do not feel pain, because I finally recognized that since my mother had died, I lost my dad too. And that grieve I could not recognize and understand. It took a long time, 20 odd years before I finally realized what kind of an emotion it was. But now I do.....it's called mourning for the dead. And that to me he actually is.

  At that point it all settled for me. Now I can relate to the past with memories. some of which do make me smile. and the opposite is true of course.

  So, I hope this may be of some help to you.

  Is practicing Capoeira wrong/bad/discouraged by Jehovah's Witnesses?

  my girlfriend used to be an avid capoeira practicioner for over year.

  she has reaped many benefits from it: increased physical fitness, flexibility, some self-defense skills, and stress-relief.

  she enjoyed it.. unfortunately, an article came out in the spanish version of the "watchtower" ("atalaya" in spanish) essentially saying that capoeira should not be practiced because it has some spirituality stuff in it that was wrong.

  based on what is written in the bible.. .

  ... that while it is a controversial issue, the refusal of transfusions is a matter of faith for witnesses, and deserves to be respected as their choice.

  WT speak: conscience matter

  1) WT christians have to train there conscience based on bible principles
  2) no one can understand the bible on there own and the only way to nderstand the bible correctly is through the literature of the WBTS. (e.g. closing talk Special assembly day 2006/2007)

  Therefore, technically, it is a through WBTS literature conceived conscience matter.......

  Not a misquote, therefore.....
