  Is this life all there is???

  i have been a df'ed witness for two years now.

  i have had a son around that same time moved twice and changed jobs all around that same time.

  it has been the hardest two years of my life.

  Afterlife, or how ever you would call it, cannot be proven nor disproven. It may be there, but then again it may not.

  People from all kinds of backgrounds have had near death experiences in whih they claim to be able to lift up the veil a little. Based on the gospel of John and his letters I could come to the conclusion that knowing God is the eternal life itself. There are others who claim this afterlife to be in heaven and ofcourse our JW heritage tells you that afterlife might take place here on earth.

  Whatever you choose in terms of what an afterlife may be, it basically is a vehicle to overcome fear of death. Whether it is true or not, being persuaded to believe in afterlife, is a comfort in itself. But then again, seeing the truth as being an afterlife is non-existent may also do the trick for you.

  Cross that bridge when you get to it, i.e. when you´re there and ready for it. In the meantime, lead a rewarding life, read about psychology, devolopment of cosmologies, philosofy, etc, to get an idea and a broader view on things.

  just got to the point in the 'gentile times' book where he starts talking about the wts claim that christs kingdom was set up in 1914. this of course contradicts a number of sciptures including: .

  eph 1:20 - that raised christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at god's right hand in the heavenly realms.

  21now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else in this world or in the world to come.

  WT 2002 1/10 page 18 par 3: commentary on Col 1:13: it says that Jesus was awarded royal subjects for the christians were brought into the kingdom of his love.

  so much for the kingdom of love. ...It ended at the latest 70 years later. ........I´ve got the power.........

  JW "Science" - Committing Intellectual Suicide - NY Tiimes article

  there is an article in today's new york times by cornelia dean called faith, reason, god and other imponderables.

  it's a review of several books dealing with science and religion.

  in the article are the following quotes from two of the writers.

  Quote "Human reasoning is “beset with logical problems that include overdependence on authority, overemphasis on coincidence, distortion of the evidence, circular reasoning, use of anecdotes, ignorance of science and failures of logic,” he writes. And whatever these traits may say about acceptance of religion, they have a lot to do with public misunderstanding of science. " Unquote

  JW explanations do clearly not suffer from these illments.

  Quote:"This is where the scientific method comes in. If scientists are prepared to state their hypotheses, describe how they tested them, lay out their data, explain how they analyze their data and the conclusions they draw from their analyses — then it should not matter if they pray to Zeus, Jehovah, the Tooth Fairy, or nobody.

  This does clealy only apply to scientist.......

  let's assume that the 70 year prophecy will be confirmed by all archeologists and geremia 29:10 is correctly rendered "at babilonia" so 607-537 is fine.

  when we get to daniel 4 we have the dream and the tree is compared to the king nebuchadnezzar.

  the wt confirms this and all is fine.

  Stromboli, thanks for the beer. We are having a small 36 degrees Celsius and it´s refreshing indeed. Credit where credit is due. JWfacts renewed the thread. I thought to respond since a lot of threads over the past weeks/ months discussed the 607/587 controversy. This part of the "puzzle" also is well worth considering but I suppose it comes down to either accepting it as an "end of days"-prophesy or not.

  Before I got into all kinds of explanations, proof, evidence, refutations and rebuttals, this was the first thing that crossed my mind: Is it an "end of days"-prophesy at all? I still have to read "Gentile times reconsidered" but I will do spent some time on that more out of historical curiosity than anything else. Call it: Two ways to disrupt the 7 times wetdream. To me the whole 7 times doctrine is ripe for the security shredder.

  Reading chapter 4 and investigating the terms used by Daniel, I found the whole story quite ambigious because a lot of claytablets have been discovered and my question was: where´s the letter on claytablet, since it is an official statement by the head of state?

  Apart from that: Why did Jesus not mention it when it had to do with his return? Why did this disciples not posed THE QUESTION? Paul was gifted with prophesy and explanation and healing. Why did he not mention the fact that Daniel might be hinting on a future fulfilment? Or, why did John not mention it because he was relating what would be happening in the day of the Lord?

  To many questions exists that cast doubt on the explanations by the 7th day adventist and all related denominations who profess to interpret Daniel 4 this way. From what I´ve read, back in those days, people were more convinced by the elegance, balance, the perfect fit, than real evidence.

  Now it is only a part of a doctrine to explain supremacy in spiritual matters.

  The chapter consists out a letter, written by this Nebu to all people in his realm with the declaration that GOD IS RULER IN THE KINGDOM OF MANKIND! This chapter is not connected to an universal issue. The chapter is connected to a earthly issue. And this chapter is about Nebu acknowledging the fact that God is more powerfull than he is. So, this is not a prophetic chapter. This is a in the form of a letter written down "historic" relay of events that have alledgedly happended to the most powerfull ruler back then. END OF STORY. EXIT WBTS, 1914, 1818 the whole shebang.

  Saying anything else contradicts anything that is within the obvious meaning within Daniel 4. By going the path, like the WBTS, adventists, Brown, et all, have gone, the bible could be made to anything one would like it to say.

  There are a lot of things in life that take courage to do it for the first time. And you have found it. And you´ve done it eloquently. Congrats on your first post.

  Although bitterness may give you strength to walk a certain path you´ll find it to be not the most rewarding thing in life. Allow me to express my sympathy for what you are and have been going through. I hope you will find warmth and friendship to help you along.

  As you might have noticed, I have been a board member longer than a poster. So, we share a certain gladness of finally having cut the gordian knot.
