Isn't nepotism and bias the main reason men are recommended for Eldership?
by RULES & REGULATIONS into be recommended for eldership you must first show yourself worthy through works, such as meeting attendance and participation, field service hours and having the "right attitude" (meaning they are organization men).
many ms will become elder's shadows, in hopes to be recommended by them for eldership.
nepotism and bias runs in my congregation.we have 4 elders who are all related.

Rahab lied should be Disfellowshiped! Stupidest Watchtower logic ever!
by Witness 007 inrahab hides 2 isrealite spies in the attic and then full on lies!!
yet james 2;25 says:"rahab the harlot was declared righteous by her works.".
joshua 2;5 ....i did not know from where they were {lie no.1}.....by dark the men went out {lie no.2} ...i do not know where the men have gone.

I would concur with the fact that Jesus never ever flat out lied......under circumstances only.
1) Jesus never actually existed....meaning his supposed existence and all he had supposedly done was a straight out lie devised by smart people.
2) He did exist but the stories about him are composed by very smart people decades (5) after he changed the temporal for the eternal. Given the contradictory nature and the plagiarism of at least parts of the total body of the words attributed to him, the stories are made up and therefore straight out lies.
3) He did exist. All the words attributed to him were genuinely uttered by him. Given the contradictory nature and plagiarism of at least parts of the total body of the words attributed to him, would make him a bold faced liar.
En resumen: Either way: Jesus is on par with his ancestrally heritage: a liar declared righteous. Wasn't there a scripture warning us about people declaring right what was wrong?......

Why Is Relgion So Focused on Eschatology - to the Point of Obsession?
by Rapunzel inone of the major concepts that seems to be found in virtually all of the world's major religions is that of eschatology - the study of the end things, specifically the end of the world.
this is one idea that unites the disparate religions of the world.
furthermore, eschatological concerns constitute a link or a bridge between the religions currently practised in the world, and other ancient, forgotten religions.

People have to cope with a world that is experienced as unfair. Why a sudden hailstorm ruining your harvest? Why did that person die so young, leaving behind 5 kids? Why did the enemy win the war? etc. To see a better world for "just people", people who are just, is imho a maybe the great driving force.
Hence, the interest in end time prophesy. It makes a good story, either in print or in (moving)image. It appeals to our senses for justification, retribution, etc. It also help to rally mass support for a certain course of action.
By supplying hope, even though it is as futile as resistance to the BORG, strength and peace of mind can be derived from it.

Does anyone else notice?...
by still_in74 ini started this in another thread but i think it deserves its own......... does anyone else notice, that as they see the wt for what it is, the wt articles seem to not actually "teach" anything anymore?
- it just seems to constanly preach over and over to not listen to apostates, not listen to news/internet/documentaries, not listen to anything critical of the org.
just to read the bible and "by extension" bible-based literature.

help with a verse
by bite me ini've been reading proverbs, one of my favorite books in the bible.
recently i decided to read it again to dig a little deeper.
it's a wonderful book, telling us how we should live in a way god would be pleased.

Especially in the previous chapter you can derive from it that the wisdom is a woman type of figure. She was there in the beginning. It is our preconceived idea about Jesus being there that puts a strain on explaining this verse. Check for example chapter 2. First there is talk about wisdom, knowledge, understanding....then all of a sudden the focus changes to a foreign woman who is no good.
Think this through. Solomon was married to a foreign woman: his first wife was an Egyptian princess (not to mention all the latter ones). He wrote this in his "good" days. Is his advice about the foreign woman on par with the first part of chapter 2 and his own life?
Check chapter 5. Verse 15 and further have in WT literature always received a sexual connotation. Maybe they are right. But the change of focus is the same as in chapter 2. It is about wisdom, understanding, knowledge, etc, and forget the foreign woman, drink from your own spring well. Jesus said in John 4: The water I give will produce a spring well within.
The fun part is this: Compare chapter 8 with chapter 1 of the John Gospel. It says that the word was in the beginning with God. It does not say that Jesus is the logos. It only says the the principle which is called logos has become flesh, has become flesh in the body of Jesus.
It does not say Jesus was a master workman. The principle was. In the word of proverbs: wisdom, the native female principle.
Sounds to gnostic? Well the bible is in part about just that.

Richard,
I read the newspaper article about the case you mentioned. I was under the impression that the Council of State had to make a ruling, not the supreme court. Either way, I did expect a negative result for the couple due to their stance on the blood issue. I would expect them to go to the European Court to appeal to the European Human Rights in which case the compromise reached in the Bulgaria recognition case might play a role.
As towards the email, It's very old and when I heard it the first time I had to puke already. Reading the first sentence already told me what the story was about. Utter BS. It can not be confirmed in any way. Is it not peculiar that a religious society, claiming the bible to be the truth because the recorded experiences are truthful, in the sense of names, places, events, etc, do not themselves provide the true names and places in even their private (jw-only) issue of the WT?
Dishonesty: to make the intangible tangible. God answering prayers......I would suspect him to experience a backlog of some sort then.....

What is the HIDDEN purpose of the Watchtower corporation?
by Terry inwhy does the average man or woman on the street only have a vague awareness of who jehovah's witnesses are and what they stand for?
isn't it weird they know next to nothing after over a hundred years of door to door work???.
ask yourself why this has been such an ineffective ministry.. one actor, tom cruise, has raised more awareness about his own religion (scientology) than all the watchtower magazines placed at a million households.

JHVH took over the Baal attributes.......quite a career I should add: From a Merciless God of War to a merciful God of love.
WTBS took over JHVH OT attributes....... a jealous person. One who does not allow competition. Maybe a thousand years or two may help them make the same progress.....
So, when they talk about honouring JHVH as the souvereign of the Universe I am inclined to say they are honest in their aim (cynical). But they do not divulge the present identity of JHVH.......themselves and their corporate structure. Talking about delusions of grandeur......
The situation could be described as quite similar to those of the early Israelites who offered their offerings on the high places but instead to BAAL or other Gods they offered there to "JHVH their God". Nowadays it's the JDUB walking off their asses for the WBTS and call it sacred services for JHVH.......

High incidence of demonic activity.
by chicken little inanyone wondered about the large numbers of jewish people in the 1st centuary that were under demon control?
the jews were very much warned to keep clear of demons and any occult practises.
i find it odd then that there are so many people coming to jesus with this problem.

According to the gospels jesus was accused of using beelzebub for exorcisms. He did not deny the charges. He just used a fancy way of beating around the bush like if a kingdom is divided against itself it will fall etc.
However, any issue, ailment and stuff was considered to be inflicted either by sin or demons.
So, if want to see the devil, you see him anywhere......
Some hover see Jesus more as a magi. Just like Simon the Magician.
But perhaps, Satans strong works have gone the same way as the powerful works of the spirit as tongues and healing and things.....to me load of B
