Why do people hide on this site?
by Adolfius insomething i've noticed when reading the various threads on this site, is that so many people seem to be afraid.
their scared of being disfellowshipped, scared of being shunned, scared of not being accepted by the congregation, scared that people may find out they don't believe anymore, scared if anyone was to find out they use this site.
there is advice for people on how to avoid being disfellowshipped, if they may have "said too much" about their thoughts, or how to fade without being noticed.. i don't understand this.

I'm going to be disfellowshipped on Wednesday
by Thinking of Leaving inthe elders cames to my home on saturday and i didn't answer the door, so they told my sister to relay the message.
the message was "you know what it's about, we're going to make the announcement next meeting".
i knew it was coming...but it feels so weird.

Black Sheep likened the fade to walking a tightrope, however for me it feels more like a tightrope walk on a barbwire fence.
No matter how careful you are, how fast or slow you go, every step in your fade will hurt, maybe even scar you. With each and every step you take another family member disowns you, another lifelong friend abandons you, another acquaintance shuns you. On this journey you may lose a marriage mate and children, you might have to leave behind parents and grandparents, you might forfeit aunts, uncles and cousins. The longer you have been in the "Truth", the further you have to travel, the more you have to endure. If the pain is too much to handle and you turn around and go back to them they will never treat you the same, you will always be remembered as the one that almost left. They will point at your sores and scars and ask how you could have treated them that way, when they are the ones that pricked you there. If you go back the doubts that lead you to the barbwire in the first place will never go away. However, there is hope for those that hang on, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
At the end of the Barbwire tightrope is something Witnesses will never have and can never get; freedom. There are also help. Many of the fine people on JWD, with their past experiences, stories, examples, words of encouragment and insight, can help you so much. Many of them don't know how much they help you with their posts that you spend days reading. They are all here for you to help you finish your journey. These fine people are also the best ones to help you make it across because they have scars too.
A song that I like makes me think of my fade has the lyrics

I was lost
And I'm still lost
But I feel So much betterWhen I was fully active I didn't feel right, I felt lost and now that I am almost all the way out I still feel lost, I don't have all the answers, but I really feel a lot better.

Rat Poison found in US pet foods
by Nathan Natas insome of you may have heard this story, which has been s-l-o-w-l-y developing for more than a week.. in a nutshell, there have been pet deaths reported in various parts of the us, and the cause of the deaths was the pet food, which, as it turns out, has a component made by one manufacturer that is used in many different (and supposedly unique) pet foods.
both dogs and cats were affected, but more cats than dogs.. at first they said there was a problem with this component -wheat gluten.. now it is revealed that the wheat gluten had rat poison mixed with it.. see: http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/23/news/companies/pet_food/?postversion=2007032318.
now, what gets me is that if one small granary can of rat poison fell into a few hundred tons of wheat, it wouldn't be a concentrated enough poison to kill a cat or small dog after eating one can of the food.

If they can poison dogs and cats they will be poisoning us next. I eat canned soup, canned tuna, canned beans. canned vegetables.
What do you mean poisoning us NEXT. What about the Salmonilla in Spinach and Peanutbutter. . . .

We had a bookstudy
conductoroverseer who mentioned weird stuff like that out of the blue.Like the whole purpose of WW1 and WW2 was to Eliminate Jw's.
He also mentioned that after the Earth filled up we would probably be allowed space travel to fill other planets.

Are parents allowed in their teenagers judicial meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ina 16 year old girl was recently disfellowshipped from my congregation.
i was told by some busybodies that she had a ''wordly'' boyfriend and that she committed fornication.now she sits home alone while her parents attend 3 meetings per week.. my questions are:did the elders meet with the parents first to let them know what the offense was?
were her parents told what the judicial meeting would be about and how it works?

I don't know the specific rules but when I had my first JC at age 10 or 11 and my parents were with me. I wasn't baptised yet and I lost my talk and comment "privileges" for a few months. I was soooo SCARED and enbarased having to tell my parents and the elders what I did. From time to time I am forced to vividly re-live those terrifying moments that seemed to drag on for hours in the darkest parts of my nightmares.
My second JC at age 12, my parents didn't come with me. Again I lost talk and service "privileges" for a month this time it was because of my hair cut.
My Third JC with my new wife and both DFed at age 19, just days after getting married.

Are wedding rings pagan?
by Sam87 inhi everyone, i was on myspace having a discussion with a jw about wedding rings.
does anyone know if wedding rings were made to worship a false god?
this is a very funny question, because often when i come across a opposers of bible truth and explain to them about how certain 'so-called christian' holidays actually predate christ's ministry on earth and all the traditions associated with xmas, easter, valentines, etc.

Sure Sam , they are more than likely going to read word for word from what you've already discovered anyways. Even if rings were used for the purpose of pagan ideology that's not
how they are used today, so you may be trying to climb a tree with no branches............good luck
Which is where things get really iffy. Take Christmas, or easter for example. They STARTED out as a Pagan celebrations, but that is not what they are today and those are banned.
Its Funny with the witnesses when so much effort goes to proving that things are wrong because of how they started and not how they are today, especially when the witnesses are not allowed to really look to see where and how their religion started.

Here You go
Quotes from 1952-1972 about how wedding rings ARE pagan but are OK because lots of things are pagan but not forbidin in the Bible.
http://www.watchtowerinformationservice.org/index.php/watchtower_quotes/do/wedding_rings/
"It is thus seen that the precise origin of the wedding ring is uncertain. Even if it were a fact that pagans first used wedding rings, would that rule such out for Christians? Not necessarily. Many of today’s articles of clothing and aspects of life originated in pagan lands. The present time divisions of hours, minutes and seconds are based on an early Babylonian system. Yet, there is no objection to a Christian’s using these time divisions, for one’s doing so does not involve carrying on false religious practices."
Hope This Helps
