jwfacts: He feels that the word worship should not be used for Jesus, but should be for the Father. To be consisent the same word, such as obesiance should be used for both Jesus and the Father, otherwise the translator is adding their own bias (and hence interpretation) depending on whether or not they believe the Father and Son are both God or not.

Don't forget where Satan asked Jesus to do one act of worship toward him ... that was also obeisance, but rendered "worship" in the NWT. So, Satan, who is a false god, gets worship. YHWH who is a true God gets worship. But Jesus, who is a Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6) and at very least a true God, if not the true God (John 1:1) even according to the NWT, is undeserving of worship.

Odd, that.

worst week in my life

last monday my husband, a nice guy, after ranting for a bit about terrorists, came over to me, to kiss me i thought.

he hit my head and then started to choke me, shouting "be healed.

" i managed to get away from him and he kept yelling "be healed" and saying that i was bewitched and had put a curse on him.

unique1 had the same thought as mine. Or dementia. These frequently set in as people age, usually worsening later in the day, sometimes presenting no symptoms at all in the mornings.

That fits with paranoic collection of weaponry and the violent reaction to a perceived authority figure. If it is any consolation, he probably thought he really was helping you when he hit you and choked you. Terribly unsafe for you, either way. But he likely didn't mean you any harm—whether the episode was drug induced or came on as a result of some mental or physical defect.

"Trinitarians" how can you "lie" to the truth? Is truth a person?

i was talking to this jw's elder who i believe has to be the best debater against the "trinity" doctrine that jw's have he brought up several point which i feel needs to be addressed by trinitarians.

first of all he argured that acts 5:3-4 about lying to the holy spirit in no way makes the holy spirit a person any more that "lying to the truth" in james makes "truth" a person.

i have never seen that verse before about lying to the truth.

Don't you find that an environment where there are wide ranging beliefs tests your agapé to a much greater degree than environments where everyone has dictated to them what they should believe on Scriptural topics? I think unanimity and conformity are directly contrary to what early Christianity was all about.

Who are the 'other sheep?'

Jesus was not referring to two classes of Christians. He said, "I have other sheep ..." He said this in the 1st Century. He did not say, "I will have other sheep 2,000 years from now."

He was speaking to the Pharisees in John 9:41-10:18, not to his disciples. He had just called to be his follower someone the Pharisees had expelled from the synagogue (h. shammatta). Most JWs think Jesus spoke the words of John 10:16 to his disciples. They are wrong.

At the time Jesus spoke the words he was only calling Jews, but he had other sheep (even then) who were of the Samaritans and the Gentiles who would also be called. He did not specify only one other source of sheep; he only said that the other sheep would not be "of this fold" (or "out of the fold this" as the Kingdom Interlinear puts it). They all go into the same flock.

Most importantly: If there is only one flock that all the sheep will eventually be in, then the "little flock" is it. There is no "big flock" of sheep, by contrast. There aren't two flocks that the sheep will be called into; the text specifies one flock under one shepherd.

The JW teaching is a perversion of Scripture and is unchristian. The other sheep are the Gentiles and the Samaritans.

The faithful and discreet slave

i have been doing a bit of research into the witnesses.

i have been told the faithful and discreet slaves reside in brooklyn ny.

these men believe they are appointed by god to lead the jehovah's witnesses and run a publishing company.. what scriptures do they use to back up this claim?.

True. Excellent point.

So none of us has been disfellowshipped for questioning the faithful and discreet slave. Many have been for questioning men who say they are the faithful and discreet slave. They aren't and never were, so questioning them is not questioning the faithful and discreet slave.

But even Jesus questioned, "Who really is the faithful and discreet slave ..." So if I do so, I am only following the example of Jesus.

Is it just because i was raised a JW?

yesterday (sunday) we went to our daughters church for family service as they have these at the end of each term for the kids club (sunday school) and if you don't know about my beliefs that i don't have any and i am one not wanting to have anything to do with any religion.. anyway there are a few things that caught my attention during this service as i normally tune out but they were talking about how jesus was telling a parragul (sp?

) about sowing the seeds and then it all came flooding back of the memories about how the jw used this, and you know it was strange as this church was saying things almost identical to what the jw would say.. this is not what i was wanting to mention but i thought this was interesting.. so after all the service they have a morning tea for everyone afterward and i got talking to the minister/father/pastor (don't know what the head person called) wife and the subject come about christmas and i told her that this was not as important as when jesus died and that he wasn't even born on 25th december she was taken back that he was not born on this day as i told her he was born earlier in the year and i explained how this is the reason, she was gob smacked!.

i thought this was common knowledge so i wonder if she will go back to her husband and ask questions if this is true.. so i ask the question is it common knowledge that jesus was not born on this day and it is a pagan holiday or is it a jw thing.

Well, helncon, yes and no.

The fact of the matter is no one knows when Jesus was born. Not even Jehovah's Witnesses. You know that there are some pagan traditions associated with Christmas, but you only believe this makes it a pagan holiday. Most people I know would disagree, even if they know about the pagan traditions.

Much the same as the use of wedding rings is not necessarily pagan even though the custom is steeped in pagan traditions.

Or the art of writing.

Or shaving.

Or oh so many things we think little of but which had their origins in pagan traditions.

You were one of Jehovah's Witnesses so the things they infected your brain with you still believe, to a degree. Such as, "If it had pagan origins it is pagan." This can become a huge barrier to normal social interactions. It was a tough one for me to overcome on my exit.

In 1919 that slave was identified as the remnant of anointed Christians. Since then, as represented by the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, it has been the center of theocracy on earth.

Except that in 1919: (1) the Bible Students had not identified the slave as the remnant of anointed Christians and (2) they were not represented by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses.

It was 1919 when Rutherford reaffirmed that Russell had been the faithful and wise steward. It wasn't until 1931 that the identity of the faithful and discreet slave directly changed in dogma.

That's right, the faithful and discreet slave chosen in 1919 didn't even know about their selection as such until 1931. How's that for poor communication? God's channel must have been static in the early years.

I remember that article in 1995. It caused a huge stir. It started a lot of people wondering how long the end could possibly be after this good news was preached in all the inhabited earth. The speakers who said the scripture was fulfilled got their understanding from the Watchtower itself, it wasn't a baseless rumor. Like the ones who spread that 1975 would be a momentuous year in human history. They got it from a 1966 and 1968 Awake! and told other people what the magazine said.

This religion is so completely perverse that only those blinded cannot see it.
