When referring to the CCoJW (formerly WTS) the following two words shouldn't be used in the same sentence:
leadership wise
Just FYI.
i have been reading with interest the news of the next change in the generation teaching.
does anyone have any substantive proof that this change will be made?
it could be a big con to get us all excited and tell others about it and reveal that we are, wait for it, apostate!!

The manuscript DC talks are usually future Watchtower articles. One outstanding example was the changed understanding regarding the timing of events from Matthew 24 and 25, Luke 21, and Mark 13 revealed at the 1993 District Convention. That was a huge change that paved the way for the 1995 change in the meaning of "generation".
The "new light" sometimes hits first at the Annual Meeting but is most often revealed at the DC, followed by Watchtower articles.

when the person is so low in spirit and they try to talk, all they hear "quit being a baby and suck it up".
or they over hear ones say about another people that is depressed "oh, they are just saying this for attention".. i was thinking about all of this because of two things.
when my friend jen took her life last month she was so depressed and none of us knew.
When I was at the brink I didn't experience that kind of reaction from very many people at all, FF. But I did expect to. I am eternally thankful that the overwhelming majority of people on this forum didn't treat my need to talk derisively.
I am sorry about Jen and about your friend. I am glad she has someone like you in her life right now.

hey, new member here.
just looking for someone close to my age and maybe has had similar situation for some advice.
at a cross roads and could use someone to help me make the walk across if that's what looks like i need to do for me & my children & my husband
C&B, Welcome!
My dad was the Presiding Overseer in my old congregation. He kept pressuring me to drop the things I was discovering about basic doctrinal errors, like JWs teaching that Jesus is not the mediator for all mankind but only for the 144,000. When he made it clear he was done with me (by convening a Judicial Committee about me) I disassociated myself. I would have done so much sooner but I kept hoping I might open his eyes.
If you feel haunted by the specter of the religion you left and want to find closure on any remaining fragments of watching over your shoulder for prying JW eyes, disassociating yourself is a great way to go.
Obviously you know your situation best, but please also consider how your children might be impacted by Grandma and Grandpa "teaching" them the Truthâ„¢ (All Rights Reserved, Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Inc.). Will your children get mixed messages about morality? Will they be taught that you and your husband will be destroyed by God if you don't become Jehovah's Witnesses? That they will be destroyed if they don't become Jehovah's Witnesses?
You are well aware that the JW life is not a normal life. The Watchtower brags about that fact in its pages. To what extent are you willing to let that particular brand of abnormalcy warp your family?
From your profile, it seems you already have decided but are dreading the fallout. The fallout will be borne by you alone, not your whole family. It is very different when you are unceremoniously kicked out versus when you walk out into a new life with your head held high.

this might be a bad time to post this because all the zep fans are prolly in bed .

edit: sorry what prompted this post is several zep songs have been mentioned on several threads tonight .
For me, it is a tie between Battle of Evermore and Black Dog.
"Battle" is based on the Battle of Pelennor Fields from Return of the King. I think the line using the phrase "angels of Avalon" calls to mind the metaphorical salvation of another fictitionalized King (Arthur) with beautiful lyricism. Black Dog is just plain ol' irreverent fun.
But I never met a Zep song that didn't like me.

"nineteen fourteen - nineteen schmorsteen" ?.
we've had some threads about this, but it seems the general consensus is that they cannot change the 1914 date - it is what the entire organization rests it's doctrine on.. but why do we say that, really?
at one time (and for many, many years), the years 1799 and 1874 were pivotal dates to the bible students.
CoCo,
I highly recommend getting a copy of the actual Watchtower page in which this information appeared. Even a cropped screenshot image would be better than just showing the reference and text. While JWs are content with the WTS showing only the quoted text from "reputable sources" or (at best) citing the publication name in which the original appeared, they freely hold doubters to an excessively high standard of proof.
Just FYI, it always makes a more lasting impression when you can show them a copy of the article itself.

you could have stupid new light every week published and the vast majority aren't going anywhere.
you could see proof of contradiction after contradiction right in front of your nose, if you're a witness.
and you still won't budge.. the reason: mental and spiritual laziness.
My PRC lived in several Georgia and Northeast Florida congregations as well as three different Ohio congregations. I have been in racially accepting congregations and in racially divided ones. I have been in a racially divided Circuit, where the cultures didn't intermingle more than to say hello. I don't think this is a measure of any organization, but it is more a measure of the people that populate an organization in a given area. I am 4th gen from both sides. Paternally, the family became Bible Students in the 1890s in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The old Zion's Watchtower and Herald of Christ's Presence show the dates for studies in Fitzgerald, GA.
The org propagandizes its own racial acceptance, but that doesn't mean there is racial acceptance throughout the org.
I agree with those who call fear a strong motivator for maintaining the status quo. In fact, I believe mental laziness is an intentionally willed state in many cases, out of fear of what might be discovered if one were not mentally lazy.

after the sunday culttower study is over, everyone will be expected to preach because the end is soooooooo close!.
[minimus i have added to the title so people can read yor correction.
otherwise i think people might just miss it.
I like this thread. Minimus has something like 2,222,561 posts (possibly slightly fewer ), but is willing to freely admit specific error. That is so very different from JW elitists.
We keep each other in check and we don't allow threads to run too far down false trains of thought before bringing it back in. Still, we benefit by entertaining the pros and cons of a possible change and keep ourselves agile-minded enough to respond whichever way the whimsical winds may shift that blow mightily from the hind quarters of the Governing Body.
Thanks for your response, Minimus. You help to confirm I made the right decision to leave.

i once heard an older dub, *godresthissoul* while reading a scripture say, "parents do not be irrigating your children!

WT study conductor looking out towards the back of the hall, "Let's hear from Sister Payne in the rear."
I thought this was true when it was told to me, but I heard a "worldly" person telling it as a joke a few years later.
This is not an urban legend. There are a lot of people with the last name Payne or Paine and a lot of settings in life where similar comments would reasonably be made.
In Valdosta, GA my parents were in a congregation with a Paine family shortly after they got married (many moons ago) and this happened there.
In Columbus, OH my wife and I were in the Forest Park congregation with a sister Payne. She had an unmarried daughter in the same congregation and one night the conductor called on "Young sister Payne, in the rear." The congregation erupted.
Most of us just happened to be part of an organization that is probably the most likely to have this occur, since we attended (along with all the "Brothers" and "Sisters" named Payne and Paine) five meetings a week, four of which were rife with Q & A segments. When you consider it that way, it would be odd if it didn't ever happen.

minimus, I am not sure why Mike is trying to turn this into a posting ultimatum ("There can be only ONE!") but is there a possibility that your mom confused what the CO actually said?
It would make perfect sense to me for them to phase out Public Talks in all contexts except the heavily monitored ones at Conventions and Assemblies. From my understanding, up until Knorr, there was no "Society approved" outlined series of public talks other than those given by official representatives from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Why wouldn't they go back to that model and expect preaching to take primary focus? Especially now that they know the major growth comes from within anyway (i.e. growth from relatives becoming JWs).
That way they will have a fully closed system that still fools adherents into believing in its public nature by virtue of the preaching work.
