does anyone have any experience or knowledge of biblical unitarians?
i've looked at their website and was surprised at how many beliefs they have in common with jws.
they seem to be kind of like bible students without the wacky pyramid stuff and the dates.

Well, the Bible is pretty specific on some things. If you don't believe them to be true & endeavor to follow them, then "why bother" to mess with the book at all? Make up your own book... It's like saying Jesus was just a good man with insightful ideas. Bull S**t! Either he was who he said he was, or he was the biggest liar on earth!
i feel that as a country we waste so much time and money fighting prostitution and marijuana use.
not that i think these things are something everyone should use, but the fact that we make these illegal and yet other things happen that are the same thing, or worse.
for example, in nevada, outside the city limits, it is legal for prostitution.

Prostitution is not just a business. It envolves degradation of the woman in most cases. There is enough research. The amount of it that is done to pay for a heavy drug habit to numb the woman from the horror of it is astonishing. Whether it begins with drug use or ends up with it. Our society has turned sex into some kind of mechanical act that supposedly doesn't affect the emotional health of the people involved. So to legalize it & make it even more "acceptable" is just to ignore what it truly is & does.A society has to decide what will break it down & destroy it & make it illegal.
Marijuana on the other hand, as a mild intoxicant, & as a medical help is another story all together. You just don't hear stories of people getting high on pot & threatening to kick someones butt! It does not medically have the repercussions of tobacco on the lungs. The fact that it is in the hands of the "pushers" makes access to it also access to hard, deleterious drugs by making the purchaser deal with the pusher who is trying to enlarge his product base. To keep people suffering &/or dying from cancer from an herb that would alleviate their suffering is unconscienceable.

Nope. My experience & reading of Unitarians is the conclusion of wondering why they bother...(don't mean to be harsh, just giving you my opinion.)
anyone here still goes from door to door despite a reluctance to serve the interests of the wts??.
i know i'll have to when i see my folks in a coupla weeks time.
have to keep up the appearance that all is well.
Before I left, I got to the point I couldn't stomach the thought of pushing the mags. I just offered a scripture & wished the householder a "Good day". It took a lot of pressure off before I could actually just stop. Hope someday you can take a stand & do the same. In the meantime, don't be too hard on yourself. When you have fully decided you find it easier to do what you want.

when i was five my mother had been searching for a new religion.
she was brought up catholic and didn't understand the church.

hello...this is my first posting.
i heard about this web page from a friend that has a boyfriend that is trying to live life out of the clutches of jw's for the last 2 years.
i have found that even though i haven't been involved with jw's for about 10 years, thier nails run deep.

I am here to give you hope that you will someday be free from the false guilt, & sorrow of wasted years...it helped me to analyze & rethink things.(For a few years I felt guilty every Sat morning I was home with my husband & kids and not "out in service.") Lo and behold, after several years I was free! I also came to understand the value in what I had been through.Don't try to discount it or bury it. You went through it & it is valuable. It's true that "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" but only if you let it. Don't dispair! The JWs try to instill a self-fulfilling prophecy on their members, but after I left the witnesses, I read the Bible more, and loved God more. Don't believe their propaganda. You will one day have your own beliefs, traditions and be happy! God is not limited by a denomination!

Exactly mrsjones! In my experience, you can't talk someone into a faith. You can answer questions (if you have answers) you can encourage, but if you just argue them down and push them to join, what good is it? By the very definition of God, he'll know whether you really believe or not, so who are you really fooling? He is the one that draws people to him, not pushy religious zealots, or even well meaning evangelical Christians. If people can't see your faith at work in your life, all the talking in the world isn't really going to convince them, not when the rubber meets the road anyway.
i have been studying with the jw for just over 3 years.i have always believed in god and the bible.
the path my life took ended up with me being a single parent of 4 children.. the jws led me down the path of the "truth".
my grandmother disowned me and i just couldnt understand why.i was told that satan was lurking round every corner trying to get me away from god.
Welcome Lunalara! I also really hate a confrontation like that. It is part of growing strong and coming into being your own person. Be true to yourself. Like salesman they are trained to play on your emotions and fears and argue you down. Don't let them get started. Just state what you want and tell them to please not come back. Or put you on a do not call back list. You don't have to get angry or mean, or argue, or put up with anything to be polite. You are being polite just by telling them and not making them come back time after time as you hide from them.. You have a right to your decision, and to not allow anyone access to you you do not want to try and sway you. You could also do something that happened to me when I was a JW: I came for a Bible study and the book was on the doorstep outside.I got the hint. (You could also leave a nice note telling them not to return.)
By the way. Since you seem to be drawn to the Bible...The Bible says True "Religion" that is pleasing to God is caring for orphans and widows. (Even the JW Bible says this!) Religion is an outward expression of your beliefs. Start with a relationship with God. You and Him. Read the Bible for yourself.You don't have to stress or worry, or take orders from an organization. Your "religion" will follow your belief. The truth will set you free in many, many ways.

Yeah! Just like it's supposed to be. I especially like going to (in my case a non-denominational) church and singing some good music rather than the stilted Kingdom Hall stuff. If you find a good one, it is a wonderful community experience-not the deadly JW thing.You also have a great opportunity to express yourself in ways you never could with the JWs. Like picking what you feel you should do, not what you HAVE to do, as far as service to others is concerned. Course you don't need a church for that, but it's an added bonus if you do.
