Congratulations! What wonderful news! It gives me hope for my mom. She's been in about 50 years now...at 80 years old I can't imagine what life would be like for her if she did all of a sudden see...it's all she's really ever known.

Breakthrough with JW mother - Stunning Anti Witness !
by diamondblue1974 ini thought i would share this with you as i am still a little bit stunned to say the least.
my mother who is a longstanding jw came to stay over the christmas period as my uncle had past away and she wanted to be more local to the family, that way she could attend the funeral and provide some support to her remaining brothers and sisters.
she lives a considerable distance away from me at this moment in time.

Are we all reading the same bible?

No two people, much less groups of people, reading the compilation of writings called the Bible would reach agreement about what it says without some hierchal authority structure interpreting it for them and having punitive consequences for dissenters
That certainly seems to be the tendency. But I have personally experienced a consensus, even allowing for minor differences of understanding. Like Skully & Muldar said, "They are out there!"

need some info on pagan symbols...
by DannyBloem inwhat pagan symbols are ok for the jw's to use, and are there some clear effidence that they are pagan.. i'm thinking about the neck-tie.
the wedding ring (any proof?).
probably a crown on a kings head will be pagan too ..... what else?

This discussion always makes me think of the scripture, "No thing is evil unto itself".(bold-mine of course) Practically everything on earth, and especially in regards to worship to God has been counterfited and misused. The symbols and things only have the power you give them. Thus the fact that a Christian could eat meat actually sacrificed to an idol,(like Paul says) cause it has no meaning for them. The point is intent. Do you intend to worship idols? Or just eat some food? God looks on the heart.

Apologetics,
If all the people who say they are of a Christian faith actually knew the scriptures that teach about that faith, the witnesses would not be able to make the inroads into peoples lives like they do. They study what they believe. Most so called Christians don't. So they are sitting ducks.
Boy you live in buble don't you. The truth is you should be finding out if the bible really is Flawless. Just for one thing look at Gen chapter 1 and then Gen chapter 2. There are two complete different creation accounts. Notice man amde before the animals/man made after animals. Man made on the 6th day/man made an the 7th day. Man was to be fuitful and fill the earth/man was alone. There are thousands of problem just like this if you really wont to open your mind and see the TRUTH about the BIBLE
Dear Skyman, I know you think you have found a flaw...if you went looking for an explanation of this you would understand what this is all about. I still find stuff in the Bible after 25 years of reading it( without the "help" of the WT), that makes me go 'huh?" But I continue to research to see if there is an explanation. This one is a really easy one. There is so much out there to explain and prove the Bible. Some of it would blow your mind., especially with the science of it."There are thousands of answers just like this if you really want to open your mind and see theTRUTH about the BIBLE." -

Another stupid blunder by the WTBTS.
by gumby inmany times the wtbts are pretty good at changing poilicy without looking to obvious to the r&f as being sneaky and having a motive behind their changes.
normally they can even justify their change as scriptural to the unwary.
however, when they changed the baptismal questions, it was more obvious that there was "motive" behind the change and some exited the group because of the change.. this thread is for those who have never heard of the change before and were not aware of the current stance the wtbts has taken regarding baptism.

Nice work, Gumby!! Thanks for the info. The more I read about JWs and their beliefs and the WTS, the harder it is for me to believe that there are people who actually swallow this stuff and believe it whole-heartedly.
One of the reasons people swallow this is they don't get the whole chunk at the first. They start you off slow with stuff that is harder to reject. Next thing you know, one little strange thing is piled on another and you find yourself with the whole beast shoved down your throat...being mightily encouraged to swallow...not so subtley snared, just unexpected. When you start to try and throw it back up as unpalatable, you are rebuked that it's delicious-God served- and if you insist, they turn away in disgust so they don't have look at it.

Can a divorcee remarry scripturally?
by rootofallevil ini have been visiting this board for the last six months and it has opened my eyes!.
i feel like i was tricked into this religion - since 1975.
i would like to say thanks to all who post on this forum.

If one party no longer treats the other as their spouse with all that this entails, then IMHO a divorce has already occured, with or without a piece of paper
Well that is the crux (pun intended) of the situation then isn't it? If it is a peice of paper from the state, then what real value has it? The value of a drivers license no doubt. But if it is a sacred union, gone into by deep committment through vows before a living God (who set the institution up to begin with) then whatever person comes along with an opinion can't really change the significance of it.
It seems like most people today go into marriage thinking of it as a driver's licence type deal. If one is a believer it is different.Different guidelines. Not to be gone into lightly for obvious reasons.

Black Swan,
What a loving, thoughtful, heartfelt letter. God bless you for taking the time to share what you found with this elder. How else are they going to hear this stuff? It has to be planting seeds. The phrase "do unto others" pops into my mind.It has the added benefit of making sure of all things in your own mind. It will help with the healing process.
Your point about Jesus is well taken. Scripture says, It is" the name above every other name"...That alone should give reason to use it more than "Jehovah." Also, "Whoever confesses me before men, him will I confess also before my Father in heaven.... everyone who has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life". Rock on Black Swan!

Dune, "one small step for man..."good for you! Never had anyone walk up to me and ask for a bible study. I think if I did,(hind sight is great) I would be sure to clue them in right away to the discrepancies, and save them the years it cost me!
When I started to quit I could only read an encouraging scripture at the door and wish them a good day.I did go through a time of guilt when I had saturday mornings off-even when I spent them with my little ones(at the time). I got over it!
