Don't get the phone... it's Satan!
by Virgochik inmy mom always warned her new studies that satan would take notice right away that they were studying the truth.
she would give examples, so they would recognize the devil's activities for what they were.
sure enough, the phone rang during a study just as mom asked the lady to read a scripture.

Well, it is 2 hrs north of San Francisco.
ALSO, in the movie "Dragnet", Dan Akroyd (I think) refered to someone who sorta disappeared or something as "Bought a goat farm in Ukiah, California." -

just checking if anyone in here is from Ukiah. I'm still hopefull about getting to talk to someone I knew while IN the "truth" who is now out-n-free...
I lived there 1976 (birth) to 1997- and I am really curious what folks (if any) ESCAPED from the JWs in that neck o the woods.
I was in the West Congregation but knew lots of people in the East (the "cool" congregation ha ha- the witnesses there were viewed by us westerners as clique-y and snobbish, yes, lame, I know) and also Redwood Valley.
I still go back there to visit my family every year at least, and to see friends from high school and JWs that are still my friends (2 of em!)
Give me a heads up if you are/were...

I tried a bikini line wax once and left after the first 2 strips. It was horrible -red little bumps popped up right after the strip came off and only about 30% of the hairs came out as well. The lady was going to continue but I was like, uhh, is it all going to be like this?
They didn't charge me. -

What happened in the 80's?
by Virgochik invarious posters have mentioned how get-togethers and fun times socializing were frowned upon and discouraged somewhere around the early 80's.
everything changed, as far as the picnics, the dinner parties, etc.
i vaguely recall some connection being made to parties and increased "immorality.

Did all that have anything to do with all the folks (Ray Franz etc) getting disfellowshipped from Bethel?
I heard that the GB said that they were all disfellowshipped for immorality. To keep others from questioning or something.
The 80's thing could be a trickle down from that...

What Things Irritated You While A Witness?
by minimus ini used to hate it when i'd listen to brother blow give his long winded comment about how we're all supposed to do this or that----and he was barely considered a witness......we had a few elders, and especially the po who would go overtime just because they could.
the po's bookstudy always went overtime.
45 minutes into the meeting he was still on paragraph 3. and he would read every scripture including the ones quoted!!!
