tsk, tsk, Scully. Like the loving brothers would ever make such a Pharasaical rule about something so silly as chewing nicotine gum...
but hey! you can buy it without a prescription? Is it expensive? I think it would be fun to try.

Nicotine gum?
by Scully ini just had a thought about nicotine gum.. let me preface this by saying that i have never smoked.
and i don't intend to start.
however i am intrigued with the "medicinal" effects of chewing nicotine gum: it's a stimulant, it decreases appetite, it is reputed to temporarily give you a bit of a jump start like caffeine does.. i'm surprised that there is no rule on this in the wt, because someone can buy the gum without a prescription, but because you aren't "smoking" the nicotine into your system, how would anyone know the difference in appearance between seeing someone using regular chewing gum or the same person chewing nicotine gum, unless you saw the packaging?.

Hi guys,
I was surfin around on the internets and found this:
http://www.geocities.com/b_r_a_d_99/
It is a website entitled "Agnostic Review of Christianity"
(can't paste a link in Firefox) It is a series of clickable articles on "examining fundamentalist Christianity and the claims they make". I haven't read it all but it seems like a bunch of folks here would be interested.
Also, does anyone check out "Fundies Say the Darndest Things"? It is hilarious. http://www.fstdt.com/
Latahs,

God just told me to pour myself a stiff drink.
I did as He requested and as a reward for my godly obedience He has blessed me. I feel good.

"Evidence God's Kingdom is Near" - Dec 06 Awake
by yaddayadda inthe society's completely nonsensical and contradictory stance on when god's kingdom comes is really brought home in this awake!
the dec 06 awake ("jesus - who was he") has as it's second article "the life he makes possible" (referring to jesus).
in that article is the subheading "evidence god's kingdom is near" which reads as follows:

Lots of people on this board say that the JWs don't pay any attention to JC- like, they're not Christ-centric at all.- are the JWs getting flack about that?
Could that be the reason? this new title sounds really different from what the convention titles usually are: like "Jehovah's Great Day of Vengence at Hand!" n stuff.

How Do You Read The Bible?
by Anitar ini wanted to get your opinions on the bible, particularly the differences between the old and new testament.
now, i am not a biblical scholar, and i don't presume to possess more knowledge than anyone else, i would just like to hear what everyone else believes.
so, if you don't mind answering a few questions:.

I'm confused too.
In the latest Awake on "intelligent design" they state that the scientific consensus on the age of the earth (~4.5 billion) does not conflict with bible truth (well ok then) so they accent that number.
BUT what about the fossils that are found in those very layers of stratigraphy that the scientists use to date the earth???
What about the very same radio dating techniques that scientists use to date human or proto-human remains that the WTS does NOT accept. They CHERRY-PICK the science that they accept. You CANNOT decide on only SOME conclusions to accept resulting from the very same dating techniques and disregard others...
So there are fossils that show gradualistic evolution, that show "missing" links that are dated, in order, in those stratigraphic sections and they don't accept evolution???
The reason that they don't is because it would negate the original sin thing, which is what all of christendom (including JWs) hinges on and they just can't have that. It threatens the very foundation of their beliefs and the foundation of their control over the JW rank and file.
Too bad. >:(

New study calls "Jehovah's protective hygiene laws" into serious question
by under_believer inanybody remember this favorite witness concept?
the mosaic laws were basically perfect, the theory goes.
one evidence of this perfection was the fact that the hygenic requirements harmonize with current science, were obviously better than what everyone else at the time was practicing, and resulted in great health benefits for the israelites.

Uh, "quackery and superstition"???
How about all those old WT quotes where you were supposed to jump up and down in a "sun Bath" or stay away from aluminum etc...?
"Quackery and superstition"???- try the latest WT take on the blood issue... sheesh. these people are so dishonest. -

WT Library Lite
by besty indid anybody else hear the announcement made this week that for 2007 there will be a new version of the wt library being made available?

Gotta get the newspeak out to the friends somehow.
Are they going to burn all the old stuff?
Do you have to turn in the old CD to get the new one?
AND jeezuz f'n crikey, if this doesn't put up a glaring red flag to the rank and file... they DESERVE it! -

Bonnie_Clyde,
The Little Ice Age decrease in temperature can be completely explained by the Maunder Minimum in sunspot activity and an increase in volcanic activity (which releases sulfate aerosols into the upper atmosphere that reflect incoming radiation).
The warming trend today can only be explained by the additional warming caused by human-caused greenhouse gasses.
Yes, the earth has always warmed and cooled. All of the previous variations in temperature can be accounted for by orbital forcing, volcanic activity and solar activity. It is only the last couple hundred years (some say couple thousand, as a result of massive agriculture -rice in Asia- and land clearing that started 5000 years ago) that we have not been able to account for the fluctuations in temperature by invoking these "natural" causes.
The discrepancy (about half of current warming) can be completely accounted for by the warming effect of greenhouse gasses that absorb and re-radiate heat back into earth's atmosphere that otherwise would escape to space.
And the scientific community is in agreement on this. Please listen to the climatologists who have found this out and not random editorial columnists who would have our country think otherwise.
