cargo cult celebrates 50th anniversary residents of the south pacific island of tanna worship an american "messiah" named john frum who first appeared to them in the 1930s.

according to a village elder quoted in a recent smithsonian article, john promised to someday return and "hell bring planeloads and shiploads of cargo to us from america if we pray to him.

radios, tvs, trucks, boats, watches, iceboxes, medicine, coca-cola and many other wonderful things.

Devotees say that an apparition of John Frum first appeared before tribal elders in the 1930s.

He urged them to rebel against the aggressive teachings of Christian missionaries and instead said they should put their faith in their own customs.

I don't know about the apparition part, but he gave them good advice, whoever he was.

i have a friend well call michael whose conscience landed him in trouble with hq.. .

he was a district overseer in the pre 75 era but his conscience would not allow him to .

endorse the unscriptural date setting.

I haven't heard of anyone being punished for disagreeing with the wts from the platform. It's a wonder he wasn't hauled off mid-talk if 1975 fever was running high in that district. Since he is now free of the org, they did him a favour.

I guess some people who find out the truth about wts doctrine leave partly due to their conscience, not wishing to knock on people's doors and preach lies to them.

It's almost over.

I don't know about the almost. The days of huge growth are definitely over for the wts. They are now entering years of rapid decline, which will speed up even more once they run out of kids to blackmail into baptism to boost numbers.

At no time would they honestly admit that it's all a scam and always has been such

In a few years, they won't have to admit it, everyone will have realised it.

much to my surprise when i found this site...i noticed that many have experienced the same typr of humiliation, asn despaid as i have throughout my 36 years on this earth.

in reading some of these stories (even after being out of the truth) for over 20 years...it still brings chills to my spine about how i was treated.
