Thanks for the input Poppers...btw Eckhart's new book A New Earth builds on the Power of Now and is just as profound and beautifully written.

I want to read The Power of Now. WTF - Havn't you just escaped a weirdo BS cult?
With all due respect, I would have to guess that you haven't read the Power of Now if you think it it has ANYTHING to do with a cult. It has nothing to do with any group or religion or organization. It will simply give you profound insight as to the magnificient depths of your being. What you are and how you can enhance your life experience. It's based on deep insight that is found in the essence of all spiritual teachings-i.e. Buddhism, Christianity, Taosim, Toltec ect. By implementing some of the ideas I personally have grown tremendously. I have a confidence, sense of security, joy and peace I've never before known. A far cry from the fear, guilt and unworthiness that a cult produces. Right now I'm reading Orwell's 1984. Holllllyyy Crap!!! I think the WT cronies may have used it as a blueprint. -

Death unnatural in humans...another Watchtower lie!
by Gill inthe wtbts teaches that death in human beings is unnatural and was brought about by adam eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and bad.. they claim that one of the proofs that death is not natural in humans is the reaction of humans when one of their number dies....terrible grief.
they claim that animals do not care if one of their number dies.
they give the example of sheep in a field who couldn't give two hoots if a fellow sheep dropped dead.. however, the mate of a neighbours dog died a few weeks ago.

Our only fear should not be of dying...but rather, of not having lived.

To me the fact that they believe they're God's "chosen" people is one of the most arrogant thoughts someone can have.

Truth and Understanding
by 777 inthe slave is not greater than the master.. jah the almighty was the first sacrifice as the master, where jesus christ was the second as holy or perfect sacrifices.
jah the almighty had to sacrifice loved ones in order to raise a perfect family in discipline and righteousness.
without rebellion there would be no need for discipline, there was rebellion, therefore need for discipline.. .

Is it true? Are adultery or death the only scriptural escapes?
by Cabin in the woods inwe have so many wise and well read people here on jwd so i thought that i would just toss this out and see if i could get some new enlightenment on this.
are there any other references that i have not seen in the scriptures ( and i have looked pretty hard for this) that would allow divorce that are considered 'acceptable' ?
am i just spinning my wheels in that foolishness still?

Upon leaving the Org. my wife and I seperated and then divorced. We realized that although we had a good friendship we were not cut out to be marriage mates and were only together because of our religious beliefs.
My wife mentioned the axiom "if you love something set it free..." And I agreed. So for us the divorce was an act of love on both of our parts and consequently each have NO guilt. We continue to be great friends and support each other even now.
I don't know that there's any easy answer but to move forward in love. Love that is in YOUR heart. To most others, our divorce looks like a terrible thing but we both know the true motivation and that's all that matters.

The fact that God’s judgment befell him while he was in the midst of easing nature, at the hands of God’s servant Ehud, reminds us of how serious this matter really is, as it indicates even further God’s extreme displeasure with this practice.
Scully, this is priceless !!! Thanks a bunch!!

ESSENTIAL READING - Steven Hassan "Combating Cult Mind Control"
by jwfacts ini have done a lot of reading on the internet about mind control, which often summarised hassan's book, but nothing came close to how interesting his book is.
i was taking notes until i realised that every page said something that applied to the watchtower society.
what makes the book effective is that hassan was a moonie, so it does not seem to be an attack on the wts, so can be read by a jw without being offensive to them.. even if you are no longer a jw this is essential reading to help you get over the experience.

I agree with you CYP. I never would have read the book and put the list together if I didn't think it was an extremely harmful cult.
Just think it's interesting where how our language and ideas are created and influenced.
