I can't wait for the time when someone bold enough would step next to the baptism pool at assemblies to announce:
"YYYY is no longer able to think independently! Congratulations, we have a new JW."

is this getting to be a habit right after the announcements during tms/sm nights?

The Bible says "winds" were used to dissipate the water. This could have included great waterspouts that funneled the water out into outer space. Thus strict Biblical fundamentalists wouldn't expect to make a comparison for confirmation of the present water and ice here in confirmation of the global flood, other than making that incidental observation, which instead would confirm that an excess of the water was removed. In the meantime, we all know quite well there is water in outer space since it accummulates around comets that come close to the earth. So the current amount of water and ice on the planet is a NON-ISSUE. - JCanon
Funny that. Fundies like yourself have always been glad to MAKE IT AN ISSUE that if all the ice in the world melted, we would be able to simulate Noah's flood. Now it seems that you are quite happy to bend over backwards to insist that excess water was tossed into outer space via waterspouts, thus the water deficit!!!! Tossing water into OUTERSPACE!!! Planet Earth TAKING A PISS in the Noachian days! Would you care to explain the mechanism for such a fantastic hypothesis? Or are we taking great liberties at being utilitarian?
Is it a personal talent of yours to dress up pig fodder as an apologist defense? So many questions for you, doubtless you'll just ignore them all and pretend that you're still smiling. "Non-issue", Hah! You wish.

As far as the local flood versus global flood goes, various cultures with legends about the global flood is definitely consistent with all of these cultures coming from the same common famly tree, which would have been Noah. Further that all mankind are a single genotype worldwide also suggests a single common origin. So the local flood story is NON-APPLICABLE and INCONCLUSIVE. - JCanon
"All mankind are a single GENOTYPE"?? I didn't realise we are remnants of the Clone Wars. Avoid bioscience lingo. I'll let you play with it when you're a bit older.
Like I said before, there are ethnic tales of blood-sucking creatures across many cultures, are you Noachian fans prepared to hail this as proof that vampires exist(ed)??
INQ
but every culture as the Jws bang their drum, has a legend about a giant flood that nearly wiped out humankind - and were it not true, then many cultures would have legends about volcanic activity or elsewise instead which is a valid point.
Many cultures have some myth of a bloodsucking demon/spirit/beast. Does that mean that vampires once roamed the earth?
But suppose we are meant to take the cross-cultural whispers as evidence of some ancient catastrophe, why must we assume that the Biblical version is the correct one?

.....according to my father.. he decided to talk to me today about my meeting attendance.
i haven't been to one in 3 months by the way.
so he goes on to give me the usual.."you know where you're supposed to be 3 times a week"......."you're not taking full advantage of jehovah's provisions"....."you shouldn't let anyone discourage you to the point of missing meetings"....that type of stuff.. he then went on to say that if you aren't taking full advantage of what jehovah provides then you're worshipping satan instead of jehovah.
Hey R.F,
I've been there myself. Parents choose to be "pragmatic" when they want to, but you aren't allowed such luxuries. Cos they "want what's best for ya" (lol) I guess it's easier to tolerate their double-standards if you see where they are coming from.
Ok, nuff chit chat. Time to don my black robe and wield my silver, blood-stained dagger:

Dawkins simply puts all world religions together in the same bad category and can't see that Christianity itself is a force for the good precisely because it seeks to control the animal drives in man which Dawkins considers natural since to him as to all evolutionists man is just another animal that origianted from lower animals and has nothing inherently spiritual in his nature.
Fallacy #1: People who suscribe to the theory of evolution dismiss and deny any form of spirituality. You obviously have not read Dawkins then, and yet you presume to know where he stands.
Fallacy #2: They encourage or tolerate the displays of allegedly animal/savage(read amoral if you're Christian) instincts of humans. That is tantamount to saying that all evolutionists agree on sexual expression, on warfare, violence and agression, on exploitative capitalism, etc. What rubbish! There is no such conspiratorial consensus among them.
Christian religion or faith itself is beyond reproach. It's a case of the followers not practicing what they supposedly believe.
What ever happened to "the sword of God's Word is like a two-edged sword, able to pierce one's thoughts and emotions"?? If religious teachings cannot compel the MAJORITY of its followers to do good to others, is that not a damning humiliation of the "power" of the Word of God? How convenient to blame sinful human nature (again a Judeo-Christian construct) to save the credibility of Christianity.

metatron,
I seek clarification for why the phrase "fanatically anti-religious" has been hurled at Dawkins. I referred to the reasons for his anti-religious position, which is snugly located in a completely different galaxy to reasons for asserting our genes are "selfish".
The more I read about Dawkins, the more logical Sheldrake appears.
You disagree with Dawkins, yet you have only read "about" him?? Is it wise to make such an emphatic criticism of what you think he thinks?

Greendawn,
In what way is Dawkins "fanatically anti-religious"? I'd thought that his anti-religious stance is not without logical reasons. And in the few documentaries and public forums that he has managed, he has allowed others to express why they believe what they believe. In what way is that "fanatical"? Do you splash this caricature on this thread as fact or as opinion?
Dawkins does not shy from calling a spade a spade, even if that stings theists (like yourself?). But that is hardly "fanatical".

"It is not up to me, as a Christian, to seek justice on my own. It is up to God to handle the situation, and I will let Him do that for me," Torres said. "After a long talk with myself, I've decided this is the right path to take."
Anyone else catch the fact that he talks to himself?

not long ago, i would have defended them slightly with opinions about those 'under mind control' etc.
but the further i get from jw think, the more i believe that jw's are just plain mean and hateful asses!
two situations that i relate in my life.. 1- an elder i know works in a grocery store.
I really think that the organization attracts those who like mean spirited thinking. They like a God who slaughters billions so they can live. They like an organization that expells people for acting like sinners act. They enjoy calling people who reject their 'truth', 'goats'. They lap up comments from others that tear down instead of building up.
I really think Jw's like being asses! And many of them joined and stay because they like the hatefulness promoted within
Couldn't you say the same for any other fundamentalist religion, any other fundamentalist Christian, and political conservatives?
When you believe you are right and only love the people who love you, you're bound to look like an arsehole to those you despise.
