Scary demon stories to encourage meeting attendance!

ive been free for about 10 years now, though not disfellowshiped.

and some time ago i accommodated an elder (friend of the family) who was visiting from the caribbean.

after trying different ways to encourage me, he and my father (both elders) chose demon stories it frighten me back to jehovah.

I dont even know where to begin with this one.

I went to a 'Witness' school so all through grade school I used to hear an unbelieveable amount of this nonsense. Especially around the 2nd and 3rd grade years did I hear tons of Smurf tales and the shit those evil little things used to do.

I dont know if it was just something that local parents came up with or not, but where I grew up we also had to be careful of ET. I dont know that it qualifies as demonic per se, but back when ET was popular there were these ET shirts that had a triangle on them. Kids were offically banned from wearing them to school because the death and resurection of ET in the movie had too much in common with Jesus and the triangle on the shirt certainly eluded to the trinity.

It kills me that I believed in the boogey man for as long as I did.

i bought it a couple of days ago when it came out...it's amazing how much their music has developed since the last album.. since my liberation from the organization, i've found their lyrics and music to inspire me, it always did, but i never really knew why.

now the lyrics strike the same chord...only harder.. here's a sample.... .

I'm so bad I'm good...

i have been in the same circuit since i was 2. that means that most of the 1000 or so in the circuit know me to some extent.. in my "later" days as a witness i kept a very limited close circle of friends.

but i'm still fairly well known.

not "popular" but recognizable.. my mother has recieved a lot of gifts recently (candles, a blanket, cards, candy) and tons of phone calls.

the highest i ever got was my being considered for a ministerial servant back in fall'ish 2004. .

of course, i also started college that semester, and was given an ultimatum and now i'm here .

but anyway, when and what was your pinnacle height in the organization?

I pioneered for about a year and held a number of posts, including being the assistant to the school overseer. It was a position that was reserved for MS's, so I knew what they had in mind for me. There was a little shake up in the pioneer world though that put an end to all that mess.

Edit: I cant believe how many impromptu talks I ended up giving during that time. If I wasnt doing them every week, it was every other.

OH! That's what a metaphor is??

Lets not misunderstand what I am taking exception to with regards to what has been said thus far. I was first commenting on how harsh you were with regards to someone elses comments on the bible, when you had no reason to be such.

After you blanketly insulted everyone who had disagreed with you, I again found reason to disagree with your assessment that those speakers recorded in gods inspired word the bible had no need to be scientifically accurate.

Now I can certainly understand why the creation account in Geneis is recorded with what certainly seems to be an earth-centric view of the universe and is filled with scientific errors. It was recorded by men who probably held those types of views and their ignorance is understandable. (though that certainly puts a dent in the divine inspiration theory)

Jesus on the other hand should be held to a different standard. His speech should reflect that he understood scientific matters as he is held to either have set the rules and been the implement of creation, or at the very least been present for the creation of the universe.

Please take note that the statement may or may not be factually true - it is only the speaker's belief or observation. Please further take note that the statement is not one of science - other than a logical device within the speaker's rhetoric.

The speaker in question is Jesus, correct? Should we expect him to be factually correct?

Wrong. You simply misunderstand the meaning of the scriptures. This statement is in reference to God's fundamental fairness and love towards all, with the admonition that we should love our enemies, indeed have love for everyone.
Further, you misunderstand the scripture to be some literal indication of rainfall patterns & climate when it is simply a metaphorical reference to God's righteousness.
Use your brain.

Think thats a bit harsh? People have been arguing about the interpretation of that book of mythology for many, many years now. How can you be so quick to pounce on some one else's idea?
