i love xmas music, especially the old standards.
i used to give in to my pagan urges in grammer school and sang them in music at times.
in 6th grade, i even secretly joined the chorus and was in the winter concert at school...oh i did love those xmas songs!!.
Legolas, send any and all excess snow over this way!! I might be the only person on the island who wants it, but I really love snow!!

Hey Legolas, I'm glad you finally got some snow over there!! Looks like I won't have to send some over with my roommate when she heads back home tomorrow, and it's a good thing, too, we're a little short on it here at the moment, it's been raining!!

I love any Christmas songs by Bing Crosby, especially Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful), Silver Bells, the Hawaiian Christmas Song (it's on the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation soundtrack!!) and It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. That said, all of his Christmas songs are great!!
I also really like The First Noel by the Crash Test Dummies, it's just incredible, so stirring.
And I really like Away In A Manger, Three Ships, Deck the Halls, White Christmas and Jingle Bells (the full version), so I recommend all of these!!
If you're into novelty Christmas music, the Muppets do a great version of The 12 Days of Christmas and Alvin and the Chipmunks do some fun songs, too.

i've been thinking a lot this week about what has gotten my brain into the mess that it is in.
yes, chemistry plays a part, but i think thoughts affect brain chemistry as much as brain chemistry affects thoughts (especially over a long period of time).
i know that one thing for sure is true, i take life and all the bits and pieces of it way too seriously, allowing my emotions to be swung on a much greater arc that i should.. but just think about witness childhoods.
Lots of good advice for yourself, joelbear. Nobody should take themselves too seriously, life's no fun that way!!
And I definitely recommend doing something fun with some kids, nieces and nephews or whatever, go to the zoo, go to the park, ride bicycles, fly a kite, if it's snowy where you live, then build a snowman. Anything fun that's generally reserved for kids. Remember, you can be child-like without being childish. You're never too old to be a kid sometimes!!

I love it!! I was actually thinking of how my JW boyfriend compares to the Grinch while I was watching that cartoon, putting up Christmas decorations and baking Christmas cookies a few nights ago!! The similarities are incredible!!

when my former congregation did a quickbuild in october, i worked with a reporter at a sister paper, a hard news daily, on an article that dealt with jws - including a fair amount of not-so-flattering background - pedophile issues, the effect of the net on the witnesses, etc.
i thought the reporter was really even-handed.. i posted about it here on jwd under this topic: newspaper article on jws today - write the paper - please!!.
while i had hoped for a little harder edge to the piece, i talked with my ex-wife a few minutes ago, and found out that she and the congregation were really upset about the article.
Be sure to let us know if and when your follow-up editorial and any other follow-up articles are published, I'm sure we'd all love to read them!!

child sacrifice was never god's idea, the prophet jeremiah quoted the almighty as saying.
he never commanded it, nor did it even enter his mind for worshipers to do such a horrible thing.
yet the ugly practice arose among professedly religious people in the old testament times.
Wasn't that just a test to see if Abraham would actually do it?? If I'm thinking of the right Biblical story, then Abraham prepared his child for sacrifice and was ready to do it when God intervened and said that it wasn't necessary. It was just a test to see if Abraham was loyal and willing to do whatever God commanded, and when God saw that he was, He stopped the sacrifice.
I don't think that God would consider child sacrifice an appropriate form of worship. Children are gifts from God and should be treated as such.
As for JWs and the whole blood issue, they somehow manage to take great pride in the fact that they are willing to sacrifice themselves and their children for "the Truth". I've seen pictures of the issue of their magazine that had pictures of children who had died from the lack of a blood transfusion on the cover, with a headline that said something about how they died for their beliefs and for God. Somehow, that really doesn't seem like something to be proud of to me.
God doesn't want us to die senselessly, He wants us to live, and to me, dying because you refuse a blood transfusion based on an organization's rules seems pretty senseless to me.
In my faith, I believe that donating blood is a beautiful gift to help others, as are organ donations, and I am a card-carrying blood donor and organ donor. Deeds like that, giving blood and organs, will help save countless lives. Now that's something to be proud of.

Here I was, thinking that killing people was wrong, no matter what, but the WTS clearly states that if it was legal, they'd be killing apostates left, right and centre!! You know, sometimes I think I'm following a different God, because I'm sure that my God would never allow His people to want to kill others for their beliefs just because they're different.
And seriously, the more I read about the WTS, the scarier the organization is and the harder it is for me to believe that there are actually millions of people out there who believe this stuff without question.
