Hackabee's plan of doing away with the IRS would be a drop in the bucket. The average family pays a few thousand in taxes per year, but with healthcare cost, the mortgage crisis, ect. it would barely touch the surface of most family's debt. Atleast Hilary and Obama would spend some of our tax money here at home instead of financing a country overseas. The government should feel some accountability toward the people and how they use use our tax dollars. The economy cannot be measured by the success of corporations when the average citizen cannot afford to have some of the basic necessities of life (an education and medical care). It is time to start healing things at home, or we won't have to worry about immigration because nobody will want to live here. Sorry, but the "American Dream" is getting to be out-of-reach for a large percentage of Americans.

offers to study after going inactive!!
by gabriella ini just recieved my third offer to have a bible study after being inactive for several years.
hello,, i remember where the kh is if i wanted to attend and i think after five meetings a week my whole life i know what the teachings are without having another "study".
i just found it very degrading and arrogant to assume that there must be something "wrong with me" or that i "needed help".

Maybe I am secure enough to live a clean life without needing to be told what to do every day at mind-numbing meetings. I am sorry but I just really needed to vent. Do any of you find it insulting and impolite to be asked to study again after being baptized and leaving of your own accord? Any good responses that you have used? I have family still in, so I want to just stay as I am. Why can't they let me be?

HELP - my boyfriend's ex called and wants them to reconcile....what to do?
by Juniper ini've been seeing an amazing man for a few months now.
i recently found out that before we met, my boyfriend had been thinking about getting back together with his ex-girlfriend.
(who is going through a divorce of her own right now) they have a two year old son together.. he says that if his child weren't involved, he wouldn't even consider going back to her.

If you love him, I'd say be a good friend (stay in his life) and give him reasonable time to make his decision. If you are not crazy about him, I would tell him it is too much drama and bid him farewell and you could have some peace back in your life. I am not sure that I could do well with the "baby momma drama" myself in your shoes. Ex-girlfriends are one thing, usually they eventually leave you alone. When they also have a child/children to hold over the guy's head, feel like they still have a say in his life, and he has to keep in touch all the time that's another story. I'm sure if I had kids myself I would feel differently, but I've known women who have admitted to having a child/ or even more than one to "keep him at home" or save their marriage. It just makes me sick because that's not a good reason to have a baby (to save a doomed relationship). I wish you the best and I hope whatever he decides he chooses with his heart. Gabriella

Can/Should someone be in love with more than one person?
by AK - Jeff innot a question that affects me personally - i am dutifully bound to a single woman now for 33 years [omg that is 1/3 of a century already].. but do you believe that it is possible or profitalble to fall in love with more than one person at the same time?
in western culture it is normally considered 'betrayal' to do such a thing - but thoughout history and in cultures outside of the west today - it is considered acceptable, even normal.. typically it is the man who has more love interests than just one - not the woman - but some cultures have supported multiple partners for women also.
this is not a thread about judging others - just an inquiry about opinion.

While it is definitely possible to fall in love with two people, I don't think that you can love them each the same and as strongly. Eventually, a decision has to be made and one love will prove stronger in the end. I think that is the painful part. It happened to me once that I began to really care about two guys at the same time, not in the same way. One was sincere, dependable and had many good family and marriage qualities. I knew I could have a future with him. The other was very spontaneous, passionate and unpredictable, but I loved his independence and freedom. I am happily married to the sincere, dependable one. It was painful for a while, though, and I would never knowingly put myself in that position again. I don't recommend it, cuz whatever your decision is in the end, you will end up loosing someone that you love,,

I say to each their own and I know some very kind, loving same-sex couples. However, I don't necessarily agree with the public parades and teachers not being allowed to define a family is a "father, mother and children" without being sued. Civil unions sound like a good way for same sex couples to have access to rights such as adding each other to medical insurance, ect. I feel that marriage should stay defined as a bond between a man and a woman. It's not because I want to see our freedom of choice taken away and I'm NOT a Republican, but I think that it is very confusing for kids to grow up without knowing that marriages generally produce children and that men and women usually are attracted to one another and become a pair. I think it could create some real gender identity issues to tell them that they must grow up and decide if they want to be a "husband" or a "wife". Just my two cents.

I agree with Greendawn, there is a "shadow government" that is actually running things and Bush is their public frontman right now. Bush and his father belong to a society of very rich, powerful men who get together behind closed doors and make descisions, not only for the U.S., but some far reaching ones that affect other nations as well (such as the world oil market). These men are some of the elite, the wealthiest of the wealthy, and together they have the money and influence to buy elections. The saddest part is that, to them, money and power are everything and they do not care about the middle class or the working poor.
As long as there are special interest groups and it continues to cost millions of dollars to run for political office, this group of men will continue to run the country. For those of you who think I am kidding, Bush and his dad have been asked about this secret group that they belong to and meet with and they have not denied it. They refuse to discuss what goes on at the private meetings or list who attends, however.
I can see the day when the poor, or even the middle class the way things are going, will have to rise up and take back this country. As long as we sit back and watch our social security disappear, gas prices rise, benefits at work be taken away and billions upon billions be spent on an overseas war and do nothing about it, it will continue to happen. I feel that we are being played and it is time to say "no".

A little Fun. If celebrities made up the Governing Body, who'd it be??

I think that Bush and Cheyney would make excellent GB members. They would fit right in to the "good old boys" club, spout pearls of wisdom to the rank and file and of course make a little money on the side. All the while demanding respect and claiming to have the monopoly on "christian values". Yep, they'd be perfect..

I recently moved back to my home town after being away for several years and doing the "fade". I have family still in, so people heard that I was back in town. I got six invitations to the memorial and a couple of phone calls about the special talk. I didn't go and now we are getting visits every weekend. I haven't gone to a meeting in over five years and just because they remember me as being a witness they are hounding me to go back. At first I thought that it was just some of the people I knew trying to welcome me back to town but the last couple weekends it has been elders (haven't answered the door). I know what they believe and know where the kingdom hall is if I wanted to go so I don't know why they would keep coming by other than to try to shame me into going or get me to recognize the elders "authority" (which I don't anymore).
Anyway, I just needed some input or advice because the visits have started to feel more like stalking. Have any of you had the experience of fading away and then having the pressure start all over again years later? If it wasn't for me family members still in I would disassociate myself, but I didn't move back near my family to break off my relationship with them (they are still really good to me and still talk to me). If the visits keep coming I know that I will be put in a position to have to either disassociate myself or go back (not going to happen). Why do they insist on keeping up the visits and putting me in that position? Maybe they are upset that I managed to leave and still have a good relationship with my family. We can't have that now!! How can I get the visits to stop without being forced to disassociate myself? Has anything worked for you?
Thanks, Gabriella

Just got mine this week, too. My husband (never been a witness) answered the door and they gave it to him. Then, they had the nerve to ask him when they could come back and talk to me about a matter. I have been inactive for four years and they think that they still have the right to come in my home and tell me what to do and how to live. I don't think so!! Their high pressure "community" canvasing this year is the height of arrogance in my book, because they do not accept anyone who does not worship the way they do. I can't believe I ever connected with such a prideful, self-righteous group,,
