Hi Sir,
Thanks for taking the time to type all this up! You mentioned something earlier about df'ing for pornography. Can you elaborate on that, please?
talk # 16: meetings that incite to love and fine works brother local elder .
synopsis: boring rehash of the od chapter on meetings.
elders should set the example in not missing meetings.

i just watched the local bbc news and there was a story about a woman who'd fed her baby while sitting on a public bench.
she finished and was on her way when a police car drew up beside her and asked her to stop.
there had been a complaint.
Some people are so ridiculous. My mother was very frugal and didn't want to buy bathing suits for us. She sent us to the pool in shorts and no shirts. People complained because 4 year old girls were topless. I bet it's those same close-minded people who are complaining about women breastfeeding.

Sorry, poppers, didn't mean to ignore you. I've never seen the movie. I'll have to check it out.

Hi jgnat, thanks for the suggestions. I do use a notebook at the meetings, taking note of interesting points and scriptures and my reactions. Since my daughter sits by me, I have to look like I'm paying attention. Really, I feel sorry for most speakers, so I try to show interest.
Hi prophecor, after lurking for a year, I have some favorites - I've really appreciate your frank and honest posts.
Hi Tij - I'm going to have to figure out how to listen to your song.
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I've had more greetings here in two days than I've had at the KH all year.
peace and love to all,

Hi Freedom lover,
My daughter is 16. I didn't indoctrinate her too badly, and she's a smart, questioning girl. As she asks questions, I give her the Biblical answer and also add the WTS 'suggestions' she hears at meetings. I always present them as suggestions rather than laws or commandments. I use the scripture "we must obey God as ruler rather than man" quite frequently after hearing an elder present his opinion as gospel. Because she's still in school, she still has some respect for authority. I see that's slowly starting to change. I think her eyes are opening up with the latest discussions on higher education. That's a good thing.
i am new to the board and am looking forward to many insightful discussions here.. a good friend of mine attends a congregation where sisters are working behind both the literature and magazine counters.
the brothers who were handling those responsibilities were removed because in the elder body's opinion, none of them were "exemplerary".police officer explained that save for the elders and a few of the ministerial servants, none of the men in the congregation were meeting the national average in field service time, so for the foreseeable future, "exemplerary".
the irony here though is that the same men who are unfit to handle the literature and magazine counters are qualified to offer opening and closing prayer for meetings and do reading for the watchtower study.
Hi Enlightened Cynic,
What's nonsense about this? Do you suspect it's a tactic to shame the men?
Welcome to the board!
ask, and ye shall receive.. i will herewith post my notes from the km06 elders school i recently attended.
i will post this in 6 parts, to give people a chance to read smaller chunks and comment on them.. a couple of introductory notes: i wrote an awful lot of stuff, and will not post everything.
for each talk, i will post 3 sections: (1) general synopsis, (2) personal thoughts & observations, (3) particularly egregious quotations.. the primary speakers, who delivered more than 1/2 of the talks, were a circuit overseer and a guest from brooklyn bethel.. to protect anonymity, we will refer to the sadly inane circuit overseer as brother sico.. and the old-timer lifelong brother from bethel, completely out of touch, as brother bethel-coot.. one more introductory comment: it seems the main points the society wanted to send to elders were:.
Sir,
Thanks for taking the time to post this! We just had our Circuit Assembly and the CO mentioned those three examples of "debased behavior" too.
" was pharaoh's haughty.
"your heart became haughty".
"-isaiah 2:17.. humble christians--only jws.
Hi Happy Man,
The haughtiest people I ran across were elders and ministerial servants, and occasionally a few pioneer sisters. I wish I could have seen the reaction in your congregation when you made that comment.

i was just curious about this question.
when i was a jw i remember a young baptized sister that got pregnant and she was unmarried.
i was waiting for the elders to either disfellowship her or reprove her but nothing happened to her.
Yes, a friend of mine got pregnant and was publicly reproved. One year later, I'm pregnant and sitting in front of the elders, thinking I'd get publicly reproved as well, because 'loving' elders would never df me in my hour of need, especially since I had no family around. Yeah right. I got df'd. I asked if they thought I was repentent, and they said "yes, but you knew better than to fornicate." Amazingly, when I appealed, I got told the same thing. I would have never asked to be reinstated if my family weren't JW's. Over the years, as I've shared this with others, I've heard many cases where the elders abused their power. That helped me to decide I didn't need the elders help with spiritual matters and I couldn't rely on the congregation for help because the friendship was conditional. This was my first hint that all was not well in the spiritual paradise of JWs.

Hi, newbie here. I'm a "liberal" JW (please don't hold that against me ), hanging out on the fringes of my congregation. I've been lurking here for a year, and since lightning hasn't struck me dead-yet- decided to register. I'm a single parent, early forties and female. As you may guess, I'm ignored in the congregation. Given my doubts, that's a good thing. I've been experiencing cognitive dissonance in many areas of my life, and have developed some coping skills, so things I hear at the KH don't bother me too much. I'm appalled at the treatment some of you have experienced at the hands of JWs. My experiences pale in comparison and helps me put things in perspective. I'm starting a spiritual journey, and I don't know where it will take me, but I find that oddly invigorating. I've been impressed by the knowledge on this board as well as by the heart. I think this will be an interesting experience, one that can't be had at the KH.
peace and love to all....
