ARE YOU PRO-UNION OR ANTI-UNION?
by Mary inwould you rather work in a unionized or non-unionized environment?
the place where i work recently voted 'no', we don't want a union in here (after being harassed by a very large union for the last 5 years).
there were some who voted 'yes', but the majority of us voted 'no' and those that were pro-union are quite pissed off that the rest of us 'fail to see the light'.

I was slightly anti-union until my company started cutting benefits for it's non-union employees. The union employees kept:
1. Free Health and dental insurance with low deductible. (Our deductibles went from $250 to $1000/person & coverage costs $500/person/year now. The sucky dental coverage costs $500/year for $3000 in coverage)
2. Unlimited education benefits (our benefits are limited to $8K/year)
3. Their pensions. (Ours were frozen, with no more contributions. I went from having a future $450K pension at age 52, to having approx. $110K.)
4. Collectively they kept all their jobs since union employees don't get laid off. If they work over 40 hours/week, they get overtime. Non-union employees are covering multiple jobs each because nearly 40% have been laid off in the last 4 years. Of course, the workweeks are longer and there is no overtime pay or comp time.
5. They work their one job, based on the job description. I along with 4 coworkers, were also PUT in a job that in no way, shape or form aligned with our career objectives. The job had few transferable skills inside the company. Looking at online job boards, I've found 2 jobs like that in the ENTIRE DFW metroplex. (I think that's what they call a dead-end job.)
I could go on, but I think you get the picture. I"m pro-union now. Corporations are raping non-union employees. Those employees can get other jobs, but sometimes if there are health insurance considerations (or other circumstances) that's easier said than done. -

As I browse guys profiles on online dating sites, I occasionally run across references to "needy women" eg. "needy women stay away". At what point does a chick become needy? Is it what she asks of you or is it frequency or a combination? Examples please. And no, I've NEVER been told I'm needy. :-)

73% of JW's leave "The Truth." Jehovah's Witnesses 2008 statistics revisted
by Spook ini participated in several discussions on this forum regarding the self reported statistics of jehovah's witnesses and the deep fundamental flaws in their methods.
after arguing with my jw family about these issues, i encountered today a new independant religious survey from the pew forum on religion and public life.
this survey was huge in scope of test group when compared with other similar surveys, including more than 35,000 u.s. adults.

The Dallas Morning News (print edition) reported on the PEW survey, but didn't mention this (or JWs) in the article. There was a graph though that listed JW's. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/religion/stories/022608dnmetreligion.351d0cc.html

New and Curious
by ttw1981 ini'm trying to read through some posts on this board to see what the central focus is, who comes here, etc.
it looks like many people here are ex-jw's, but are all?
or is it a combination of both?

If it wasn't for "....................." I'd still be in the "Truth".......
by ScoobySnax infor me i think if it wasn't for the fact i'm gay, i'd still be an active witness.
this year, even my mum has said that it wouldn't be "appropriate" if i was to go to the memorial.
now the memorial is something i've never missed, so that kind of stings a bit.

1. The lack of love by congregation members and being excluded from events.
2. Lack of shepherding or offers of help from the elders.
3. Neglect from my JW family who spent many hours preaching and RBC work but couldn't spend a few hours a year with some maintenance around my house and who excluded my daughter and me from family gatherings and ....
4. The increased level of control regarding personal matters like dating and more recently college attendance.
5. I didn't dig deeply into doctrine, because I didn't do much Bible reading. However there were a few things that didn't make sense to me over the years and the Daniel and Revelation books were laughable. -

LADIES: .....Do you HONESTLY want your husband to be your best friend?
by Bourne insome women i have known speak of their desire to have the person they marry to also be their best friend.......other's relate that they already.
have a best friend in the form of a longtime girlfriend, and would rather have their husband be their "husband".
so.....which is ladies?

I want an emotional connection with my husband. To have that emotional connection, I have to be able to share my problems, fears, interests, successes, hopes and dreams and feel affirmed when I share them. I need to know he will be dependable and trustworthy so I can feel safe and secure. I expect most of these things from a best friend as well. I realize people marry for various reasons, but for me, at this point in my life, I still expect to marry my best friend.
I think it's perfectly acceptable for a married couple to have different friends to share different interests. The hubby doesn't have to fill every need in a marriage. -

STRATEGY TIP: Put a face on Armageddon victims.
by Open mind incultivating some level of friendship with clearly decent "worldly" people is a great way to get a jw to see the horrific nature of the official jw view of armageddon.
it's so powerful that my wife says she doesn't believe jehovah will kill roughly 6 billion at armageddon.
at the same time she somehow still believes the preaching work is "life saving".

When my "worldly" relatives die, my JW relatives say "at least s/he will be in paradise." It's been their solace.
