I think what the press conference will be is some sort of date, probably two weeks in the future will be set for Saddam to step down or something and then at that date when he hasn't, "official" action will take place.

YOU Are Responsible For Your Kids Being Jehovah's Witnesses, Do Ya Feel Bad
by minimus indoes it bother you that your kids are witnesses?
does it disturb you because you taught them?
-
RandomTask
Hmm, I don't have any kids, and any that I do have in the future will definately not be brought up as witnesses, but I was raised in it stricly by my mom and I don't blame her. I know she was doing what she thought would save our lives.
What I feel terrible for are the parents who brought their kids up as witnesses and then left the religion, only to have these same children shun them. I think that is horrible and its situations like these that make me hope for the watchtower's demise.

JW Official Site Run By Spin Doctors?
by Englishman inthis from the official site: fathers also need to concern themselves with the spirituality of their children.
paul wrote: "you, fathers, do not be irritating your children, but go on bringing them up in the discipline and mental-regulating of jehovah.
" (ephesians 6:4) when parents heed the admonition not to irritate their children, as well as the direction to train them, the children feel that they are part of .

I think that the official site is definately trying to put a more positive spin on the witnesses for the public. So of course they don't go into their true beliefs on what irritating means, but rather leave it vague and to the "worldly" reader they would think that they literally mean "not to irritate" their children, however the site doesn't make that clear.
Basically another example of their being very "lawyer-like" with their words, saying one thing, but meaning another. Misrepresenting themselves in order to look "better" or as some of us like to call it, lying. I just don't think that the God that they profess to believe him, so described by them, would want anything to do with their slimy religion. It really helps to prove that they are nothing but an ad agency for their publishing company and religion inc.

Wonderful news about Iraq..NO NEED FOR WAR!
by freeman inwell it looks like we will be sending our troops home, as we dont have to worry about iraq retaining, creating, or using weapons of mass destruction anymore (wmd).
the iraqi dictator has sent a note to the chief u. n. weapons inspector informing him that he (has just now enacted legislation making wmd's illegal.
this wonderful news was announced by a gleeful hans blix just today at a televised meeting at the u.n.

It made me think of how we used to "parrot" what the WTS said..............she is doing the same thing, and parroting what she hears at home.
What if her parents were anti-war, anti-Bush and she said "Bush is a terrible Presidentand we don't need a war"? Wouldn't she just be parroting her parents beliefs in that case also? I don't know how young this girl is, but children lack the kind of reasoning capabilities that allow them to make their own reasoned opinions based on facts and then formulate their belief system. So children, especially at a young age rely on what their parents think in order to believe in "something". I don't think this is unique to witnesses but simply an indication of an immature mind. ANd in children, having an immature mind is normal wouldn't you say! Its only worrisome when we have grown adults thinking like children, and then we have problems.
Parents are concerned with raising their children not to think like them, but be able to think and form their own conclusions about the world, therefore, grounding them in reasoned thought. It is true folly when a parent simply makes their child believe what they do without building the foundation behind it. Thats why there are so many mindless JW drones today, especially those who were raised in the religion. They merely have a preconstructed belief, a hollow shell.

Are ALL criticisms of the Society justified?
by logansrun inlet me start by saying that i deplore much of the teachings of the watchtower and am convinced that it is not "the truth.
" either through ignorance, error or deliberate action they have caused great heartache for thousands and unknown heartache for millions.
i have thoroughly disconnected myself from their teachings and would rightly speak out against what i know to be harmful in that organization.

I think doctrine is only important to very few JWS these days. I know that I myself was a "doctrine geek", but your average JW isnt really high on doctrine anymore. In fact, there has been a definite de-emphasis on doctrine and more of an emphasis on "we are definitely the true religion because we say we are" and "arent we just the greatest religion, because we say so". Most witnesses I knew when I got out were just sort of brean dead at the meetings. I mean they are as strong as they always were when it comes to wanting to refute their religion, they still stick their fingers in their ears up to their elbows. They just don't really have any basis to have a doctrinal discussion anymore, because they don't really know much about it.
This gives the society more power of course when it comes to control. Its hard to refute something you dont know about anyway. I mean us apostates have to educate the average JW these days on what exactly they DO believe and then of course our credibility is shot with them anyway because we are "refuting the true word". Ignorance is power man, for the Watchtower Society.
Actually the one thing that does get people thinking is when they see examples in the congregation of people who are supposed to be "reighteous" acting in a way that would make so called "worldly" people blush. People who take advantage of their position or priveleges in the congragation are everywhere now and the hypocricy is becoming more and more apparent when the rank and file JW sees it swept under the rug usually by the elders.

Hell, my JW Inlaws were callous about those who died on Sept 11, "Eh, people die everyday". I was speechless, pretty much the same reaction today, a non-reaction.
