Is This Discrimination ?

yesterday, i received a notice of an arts grant available for people in urban areas.

in reading the materials it stated (and i'm going to bold the same words the application did): must be a person of color from african, asian, or hispanic heritage.

i was quite offended by this.

Plessy v. Ferguson was an 1896 Supreme Court case where Homer Plessy was 7/8 WHITE. Plessy had to convince the train conductor to arrest him for sitting in the white section. The conductor did not think that Plessy was black, as he did not look black. This case established the "seperate but equal" laws which was the "norm" unitl the 1960's.... So, if you're 1/8 a minority, I'd say that you are legally a minority.

I "bet" the whitest, ass southern boy has some black in him, the most olive skinned Italian has some northern african.....and the blackest Afro-American has some white genes in him. We are all interrelated, especially in this country.

Would you honor your relatives request for no blood?

as i get older, i realize that a time could come where i could find my spouse and i in a situation where we could have our parents in a situation of needing blood to live and us having to speak on their behalf.

with that in mind, i know that the medical directive is not enough and they do try to get family members to do the blood to save them.

i know this, as it happened with my mother and my dad had her take blood.

Yes, but I'd sign them up for a pint of hemoglobin, a teaspoon of albumin, a tablespoon of immunoglobulins...until I had made a whole unit of blood. (I better add some Jack Daniels to the mix).

September KM - 70 alterations in Revelation Climax Book

i can't find a thread on this subject yet - if there is one , please delete this one.. the september kingdom ministry has a 4 page insert detailing the 70 alterations in the revelation climax book which is due to be studied at the book study shortly.

i'll provide scans if anyone is interested.. i will leave it up to more experienced analysts to examine the reasons for specific changes , but just a few brief observations for now:.

p32 box - "they were completely exonerated" changed to "charges against them were dropped" - interesting change of terminology for the 1918 watchtower eight.

I just do not know what to think of this article. On one hand, the Society realizes they have a public relations problem and are trying to change its image. The "Big News" blood article put pressure on them, and for the first time they are telling the general public about the possibility of blood fractions. This is good as the average doctor may read this article and become aware of the possible life-saving treatment. This shows that we can pressure the Society to change. However, the article stops short of telling the general public about the misrepresentations of secular literature, rapid doctrinal shifts in the blood policy, or how incongruent the blood policy is with the JW interpretention "abstain from blood." This is where we need to do more work. I gave each of my doctors copies of the BIG NEWS Journal article. Each had a story to tell about those crazy JWs. Each told their collegues.

The college quote makes me puke. Inside the "Convention" there will be a "show" on not attending college and higher education. This is the classic "bait & switch." Plus, registered rurses ....why they administer blood products! Talk about a "worldly" profession. Plus, don't some of them make $75k a year. Gee, who would want that job?

Society letter read to all congregations July 28,2006 !!

i got news of this from the jw grape vine today that at the meeting on thursday(yesterday) there was a letter read to all the congregations from the society.

for the first time the society says in the letter to prepare for great tribulation and to have plenty of emergency supplies in case of a disaster.

this has shaken the up the jws it seems.

I second that the JWs are acting stranger these days. A family member called especially concerned over the Lebanon/Isreali conflict, global warming, terroristss, hurricanes, ..... Would not calm down.

BOSTON 'BIG DIG' DEATH & JW LINK ??

this will be danny haszard's boston big dig thread as things develop.. why,because i worked most of my adult life as a heavy construction union concrete form carpenter in the city of boston.i made a lot of money as a skilled craftsman at high wages,and i derived a lot of pleasure from my work.. i also gave a lot of my earnings directly to the watchtower's world wide fund.. i worked for many different contractors out of the union hiring hall,i worked for the modern continental construction company who had the largest share of contracts for the big dig project.. know this-to quote a co-worker,"i hate working for modern continental because they are infested with jehovah's witnesses who give me shit whenever i swear or talk dirty ".

NO BENEFITS TO BLOOD TRANSFUSION...?

the august 2006 awake, makes the claim that there is no benefit to blood transfusion except in trauma, according to proffessor bruce spiess:.

there are few if any (medical) articles that supposrt transfusion actually improving outcome.

" in fact, he writes that many transufusions 'may do more harm than good in virtually every instance except trauma,' increasing 'the risk of pneumonia, infections, heart attacks and strokes.'.

This Awake! article on blood reeks of more misrepresentation. Thanks Marvin for your hard work & Scully for your great comments. I love how the article talks about how bad the blood supply can be in foreign countries. It fails to mention the advancements and wide availability of bloodless medicine in these same "backwards" countries. I also love the references to "one doctor" but it does not give the doctor's name.....incredible, unbeleivable, bullcrap.

The August 2006 National Geographic has a chart on "Ways to Go." It shows the lifetime probabilities of a US resident from dying as follows:

It's the same, illogical, incredible, misrepresenting, and lying Watchtower Society. Other than they finally mentioned Hemoglobin, thanks to Kerry Louderback-Wood's article and news interviews, the Society is still the same donkey's behind.

Announcement: Another favorable court ruling regarding Napa County lawsuit

i'm thrilled to tell you about the latest court decision made in california a few days ago which kimberlee norris said would be announced today, monday, on jwd.. on july 3rd, i started a thread where the last two rulings in the napa county, california lawsuit, charissa w. v. watchtower, new york, et al., were posted.

both decisions were favorable to the plaintiff.

Does California's Supreme Court have to take the case? Can't they deny cert. just like the federal Supreme Court in Washington? If the California Supreme Court agrees with the Appeal court, or finds that there is no real question of law - I think they do not have to take the case. Then, the Appeal Court decision would stand, wouldn't it? Even if California's Supreme Court takes the case - there is a good chance Kimberly will win. She's won before on these matters. Plus, the California's Supreme Court does not like authoritative cults - see Molko case and the Church of Scientology cases. Watchtower needs to hand over the documents. They broke the minister/parishiner confidentiality when holding hearings with more than one person. Plus, the confidentiality doctrine purpose is to help the parishner (i.e. child victim). Here, the child victim wants the information. The church can not use the confidentiality doctrine to hide its own sins - just like a doctor/lawyer can't use the confidentiality doctrine to hide thier own malpractice.
