Getting bullied in school? Pray... and stuff. That'll fix it for sure
by LucidChimp ina jdub who is close to me was telling me about the talk at their meeting this sunday.. some old git (visiting speaker) related a story about his grandson who was getting bullied in school.
the advice that was given to the boy was "pray to jehovah about it"... not "let's go talk to your teachers", or even "pass me my machete" (this is manchester, sue me).
nope - this poor lad was left to talk about his problems with, well let's face it, himself.. i was outraged at this and moaned for a while (i do that sometimes - often), only to hear the saddest part later.. the obviously-damaged-and-impaired-by-his-upbringing kid does pray about it, long and hard.

Bullying in school is really bad. I know a few kids (friends of mine) who were/are bullied. One was over social media. I reported it to the school counselor, and he quickly got to all the girls' parents so it could be dealt with. Another kid actually did the "fistful", but was caught on the school's camera. While this other kid was purely defending himself (not the first punch thrown), but kids had to appear in juvi court due to the school system's no tolerance rule. The judge put both kids on 3 months restraining orders against each other because it was each of their first offense. Yes, first offense even for the kid who was defending himself!
Now, what if the bullied kid yelled out to Jehovah in front of his peers? Yeah, that will surely stop the bully . . . . NOT. I bet it would get worse . . . alot worse. But, then it wouldn't be Jehovah's fault . . it would be viewed as persecution!

Suggestions for car buying
by FlyingHighNow inif you were a lady and you were 55 and had $5,000 or less to spend on a used car, what would buy?
top concerns: good mpg; reliable; in not having major issues like ball joints breaking, timing belts breaking, etc.
not too expensive to maintain.

Pay/have a mechanic of your choosing give it a thorough inspection. Don't forget to call your insurance company, as different cars are higher to insure.

New Study Exposes Acupuncture As Pseudoscience
by alecholmesthedetective inbesides it being pseudoscience, what interests me about this is that even though it's something to do with the "qi" energy flowing in our bodies, that wasn't a problem for some members of my family or a special pioneer i knew.. new study exposes acupuncture as pseudoscience.

I've seen horses being acupunctured. They had needles all in their butts, and totally calmed down like they were drugged (but no drugs given). So, it's not quack.

If they changed their blood banÂ…would their be a floodgate of lawsuits?
by Londo111 ini know nothing about legal matters, but there are those here who are quite keen at these things.. if they changed the no blood teaching, would this open the watchtower society up to litigation?.

First, the Watchtower is a religion. Religions can change their doctrine without legal liability in the US. Even if they were not a religion, attorneys can not bring into evidence a "subsequent remedial measure" (i.e. fixing a mistake) to prove that the original was wrong. I can't say about the rest of the world. But, the Watchtower actually changing their stance would be a loss of credibility. I think the Watchtower no longer believes in its blood ban. Hence, no new articles. Further, I think the Watchtower is hoping that the "fractions" will end up being the medical norm. So, as science grows to fit the Watchtower, the Watchtower does not have to adapt its policy.

The adults in the neighborhood wish him good riddance for other reasons. Their losing their house is of no concern or joy to the neighborhood. It's totally for other reasons. Only that the auction gives the neighborhood an end date for the neighborhood.

It could be a Halloween visit, but I heard that their house was being auctioned by the bank. Of course, they are fighting it. Now, the auction is scheduled for March 2014. I think many in our subdivision are counting down the days. The "grown ups" in the neighborhood don't like them for various reasons.

My tween went Christmas caroling with a small group through our neigbhorhood. They didn't know where some JWs lived in our neighborhood. By accident, they knocked on the JW door. A woman answered. The householder stood there, blankly staring at the carolers, who were singing. She went back into the house. The kids thought it was to get someone else to enjoy the carolers or to get a treat. A man came out, and told the kids to "Go Away!" Apparently, he said it in a mean, nasty way. (There was no "Thank you, but we don't celebrate Chirstmas...", which had there been it would have gone a long way with these kdis.) The man's nastiness and the woman's coldness made an impression on the tweens, and one of them said in that scarcastic 13 year old voice, "Weeeellll, Thank you very much!"
My tween (and some from the group) came home and told me all about it, and had figured out that this house might be a JW house. So we talked about it. I said, "The funny thing is that this JW couple knock on other people's doors, trying to push the Jehovah's Witness religion by proposing a Bible study. When I was a JW, we talked about people who were not receptive to us at the door, and I really thought those people were not liked by God because they were mean to us." The kids then talked about it and said, "Well, do onto others as you would do to yourself." In other words, they all "got" how the JWs were, a one-way street. I'm pretty sure these kids will slam the door on JWs who come to their house now. LOL.
