I don't think it's in our genes, I think it's just in our experience. I think it all began when man looked around and was frightened of, or had no explanation for, so many things that modern man takes for granted. The weather, the seasons, night and day, death etc. etc. The beliefs became more sophisticated, as we did. Personally, I believe we've rather outgrown it.

Do you think religion is part of our genes?
by Undecided init seems religion has played a part in man's life through history.
it has been good and bad, but seems to control society in some way or another.
is there some brain function that causes humans to develope the need for a diety?

I was looking for a site I had seen in the past. It was about an African Grey named Alex. Looks like he recently died. But here is an interesting link. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/09/070913-alexparrot-video.html

What can WE do? That's an honest question, I drive myself crazy trying to answer it. Mostly over the misery right here in my own country.

The Salt Threat
by maowr in.. you may be aware of recent media coverage on 'the salt threat'* where the fda is trying to regulate the food packaging industries use of salt in the products.. if they go forward with it what would stop them from trying to regulate the salt content in usda meat since it's common knowledge that blood contains salt and if the production line is slowed down allowing for a better quality of bleed in the carcass reducing the amount salt or blood in the meat.. * http://abcnews.go.com/gma/oncall/story?id=3929972&page=1 .

SL hehe
Yea, I figure the regulations are being put on companies that make a huge profit killing the taste buds of the average dood. Maybe now we will know what food really tastes like, and add salt it if we choose. Salt seems to be pretty plentiful at the moment.

Hello mrose!! How is your head? What I mean is, are you comfortable being "out"? If so, enjoy it all girl! I love the holidays. And I had to make it all up as I went along. Build traditions for your family, whether you are religious or not. Make cookies even if only to give them to your neighbors and coworkers. Watch some sappy old movie about being glad to be alive. Bring in a tree, or at least some branches for the smell. Make sure to gather food for the local food drives. I think of Christmas as a time I MUST enjoy my family and friends, and the smells, sights, sounds of peace love and joy. Wow, I sound like a real goof, but my kids are now grown and I still love the holidays. Meeting people here who went through what I did, but have yet to embrace this time of year gets me enjoying it all over again. I remember one of the thoughts the JW's always pointed out at this time of year, is that we should be thankful and such every day, not just this time. But that is not realistic, is it? Life and work etc. get in the way. But at this time of year, we are given permission and have a duty to enjoy ourselves and each other! Anyway, sorry for being so exuberant, but that's the way I look at it.
