Doofdaddy,
That really is a depressing story. No doubt it must have been embarrassing for you too.
What was your sister's take on it.

Lola,
Put some lively happy music on loudish use high watt bulbs(100s, don't exceed light fittings max) in the rooms you use the most, and keep the rooms warm and use natural scents oils.
That should help. -

Symbolic generation. Does it extend batting time for WTBTS?
by Spectrum inbefore coming on this forum i didn't know that the jws had changed the generation definition from literal to symbolic and i obviously predicted that this religion will be finished when that last 1914 codger dies.
when i found out that they had changed their definition i thought, bloody hell this religion is going to go on forever.
then i thought that no, they are going to fade out, then i settled on, they are going to survive just like the catholics and orthodox.

willowman,
"In that way, they are not unlike the Mormons whose leader had a timely "vision" to cease allowing men their multiple wives -- just as U.S. troops were marching on Utah to enforce laws against polygamy."
Is that true?!!! LOLOLOL -

GoingGoingGone,
"I think there are an equal number who feel completely trapped, and don't have the skills to find their way out. The longer they stay in, the harder it is to leave."
I didn't assume that because when I was with the Org I seem to remember that only the odd person left, and that was due to immorality, but many more joined. That was over 20 years ago when JW were 3 million. And myself, I just stopped going, i didn't have a feeling of social entrapment but I did feel guilt towards god and that I'd probably die at armagedon but even that sorry gory end didn't stop me from walking.
If what you are saying is true then it's very sad. Millions of souls suffering unnecessarily. -

Excellent analysis,
Any JW reading this would have serious questions to ask, but reading the scare mongering pages regarding the execution of the 450 Baal prophets, asking questions is as far as they will take it, if that. They've so carefully crafted it, that it's difficult for god fearing people to escape from their clutches. They are constantly reminded that, Jehovah doesn't take prisoners - he literally executes people, and they totally sideline christ's forgiving nature for added effect.
Basically they like to scare the sh*t out of people into staying with the Org.
Blondie, you have shown that JWs believe they are guided by modern day prophets. Considering they have constantly got it wrong it kind of puts them in the same corner as the Baal prophets/worshippers, now the tables have turned and it should scare the sh*t out of them to consider staying in this Org. Unfortunantely this obvious flaw is lost on them.
Thanks Blondie that was great
PS. I bet Elija laced that water with a combustible liquid. hehe!! -

Marriage - Why bother?
by Spectrum inyet another friend's marriage has broken down(5th), this one i did not predict at all.
it came as a shock to me.
they got married after 10 years of living together so it's not like they didn't know each other.

Tetra,
"i think marriage is a totally unrealistic institution. especially in our modern society. not only is it about ownership, but it's just a freaking piece of paper!"
You have raised an a very interesting issue here, one that i have spent countless hours discussing with a friend who almost totally shares your view. My position was that family is the cornerstone of a functioning civilised society, his position was there are alternatives if you can't get marriage right and no harm done to society if every Tom, Dick and Harry comes from a divorced or broken home.
I'm not a social scientist so I can't talk with professional authority but I was under the impression that happy families with both loving parents present make for a better environment for children to grow in and thrive. Less stress and less emotional problems for young ones to deal with hence healthier personalities can emerge at the end of it. I don't see how one can refute this.
I strongly believe therefore that children growing up in a family unit where both parents are present and loving make for a better society, after all children are always the future of which ever society they belong to.
This sounds contradictory to my first post but here I'm talking about children and what is best for them and society rather than what is best for two individuals that want to live together.
I think that's a more cynical view than what is going on in reality. My father loved my mother more, later on in life, than he did earlier in their marriage. He would have done anything for her. There are many people's testimonials that give credence to the idea that love continues and grows with years. -

Does God make Mistakes or Bad Decisions?
by gumby ingenesis 6:5-7, 8:21. god decides to send a great flood to kill all humans, save noah and his family, because man's heart is evil.
"and god saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.... and the lord said, i will destroy man whom i have created from the face of the earth.".
later, after the flood waters recede, god promises never to do it again because man's heart is evil.

That picture of armagedon is pure brainwashing. It's the sort of thing I had nightmares about long after I left the Org.
I mean what I they trying to tell us with the guy in the bottom right hand corner. You know what, he looks like an ex-JW that has just realised what a mistake he made not staying the course. -

JWism offers more than just armageddon. It is a way of life that 6 million people find attractive. Some people need a regimented structured life style and JWism offers that aplenty. I think these people make the hardcore of the society and no "insignificant" change to wording is going to get them running out those doors. They will find reasons to believe.
I believe then that if we all came back in 200 years time we would find the JWs doing the JW thing.
Any thoughts? -

Why did Jehovah give the job of writing the BIBLE to the Catholics?
by gumby inthis is a thread which was inspired by our own hot little mary.. jehovahs witnesses claim that since pentecost of 33 c.e., there has been a faithful and discreet slave class that was appointed by jesus himself and that this slave class was "entrusted" with all of jesus belongings ( dispensing spiritual food to his followers and the rest of mankind).
oddly, when it came to gods own word to mankind being compiled ( the bible), ......jehovah chose the catholic church to dispense, audit, compile his message!
imagine that!

But was the early church, Roman catholic or Greek Orthodox. I thought that pre Constantine, they were one united church, quite close in doctrine to the first century christians.
