praiseband,
I think that the issue with JWs on this board is that JWs have taken the name Jehovah and used it to replace the name of Christ in the new testament. So where the 1st christians refered to the Lord jesus christ, JWs changed the text to refer Jehovah. This serves their purposes because it knocks Christ out of the picture considerable and gives JWs a direct channel to Jehovah in the form of the JW Governing Body. These are the contentions of the members on this forum.

AuldSoul,
That's excellent you were able to severe emotionally from the whole thing in a short space of time once you realised. You don't know how lucky you are to do it in such a short space of time.
For me, I just stopped going but their doom and gloom senarios stayed with me for nearly 20 years. Not that I ever wanted to have anything to do with them but still, armageddon played on my conscience for the best part of my life, imagine, a lie like that. When I think of that, it is understandable why they still have 6 million members including my sister.
So if I were to ask a JW who they pray to first what should they say according to the JW manual? I ask because on this board they have been accused of putting the FDS before Christ but I remember when they finished praying they always finished with, "through our Lord Jesus Christ". -

AuldSoul,
That was a great post. I hope it filters through his brain before it comes out the other ear.
When you realised that being a JW was barking up the wrong tree how long did it take you to get out? -

Would you fight and possibly die for your country?
by free2beme ini want to put this in the right frame, as what is happening in iraq is not about dying for our countries.
so this is what i mean by this question.. if a foreign government were to suddenly invade your country.
would you be willing to join the arm forces to fight for your country, knowing full well that you may die having never been able to reap the benefits of any possible victory?

It depends,
If the politicians of my country created a situation that escalated into war then I wouldn't. I might consider it if these warmongering politicians sent their children to the front line first instead some out of harms way cosy town in Canada. -

Who's to say there is only one God?
by Spectrum ini've been thinking about this for a while now and i've come to the conclusion that the concept of monotheism is not more valid than polytheism.
monotheism is an artefact of the jewish religion.
for some reason they distilled their divinity down to one multi-tasking god from the multitude available to them in the mesopotamian and egyptian region.

Shining One,
"How do you define the word 'God'? The Almighty one would not reside within creation itself )in eternity) nor be a part of that creation except for specific purposes in a limited frame of time."
My definition: Having the ability to make decisions independent of or at least co-decide with the others.
It's a good point that God would reside outside of his creation. You can assume one God from this if you assume one creation. But I don't assume one creation
The ancients fashioned their Gods according to their prevailing culture and societal norms of the day. Hierarchy was the order of the day within mesopotamian society and so they fashioned their gods in the same way.
"Polytheism cannot stand by itself, i.e., it needs a single, all powerful being empowering it."

JW,
When I read those indicator of the last days the first thing that came to mind was the middle ages and the greedy feudal lard system, then I went farther back to the vikings, then I came forward to the desolations of Ghengis Khan throught Eurasia, then I thought of the destruction of entire civiliastions from the tip of South America to the Artic circle by the avericious Spanish followed by the British. The last days according to the NT have come and gone hundred times over. Forget it, all we have is eachother. -

Aretha Franklin
The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little pray for you
While combing my hair now,
And wondering what dress to wear now,
I say a little prayer for you
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever, we never will part
Oh, how I love you
Together, forever, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only meen heartbreak for me.
I run for the bus, dear,
While riding I think of us, dear,
I say a little prayer for you.
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break-time,
I say a little prayer for you.
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, forever, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me.
I say a little prayer for you
I say a little prayer for you
My darling believe me, ( beleive me)
For me there is no one but you!
Please love me too (answer his pray)
And I'm in love with you (answer his pray)
Answer my prayer now babe (answer his pray)
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, forever, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me (oooooooooh)

mdb,
"Have you yourself read the whole OT? If you have, read it again."
Explain please, I haven't the time to read the OT.
I've read enough to get a clear idea about the Jewish God that sees killing and suffering as a means to an end. I can't believe that Christ as intelligent as he was would associated himself with this mesopotamian god. -

To All,
About scholar:
I've just come to the realisation that scholar is just here to try and wind us up on this issue of 607BC, I somehow don't believe he is a JW. His style of writing is antagonistic rather than just keeping to the facts. Someone that believes the truth about something that will culminate in eternal life and happiness would never engage in polemics.
Does anybody agree?
