My family was in Culvers one Sunday afternoon and we sat next to a table full of what appeared immediately to me to be witnesses. I mentioned it to my husband and then quickly changed my mind; both of the the men at the table had goatees. Everything else screamed JW to me, but that facial hair told me otherwise. I was wrong. They Jehovahed their way through the whole meal and then one of the little girls bragged that when she went up to get her free custard that she told them she was a witness. I wasn't aware that goatees were acceptable, but they seem to be in my area.

Hubby and I were told not to listen to "Strangers In The Night" (as if we would) because it was about homosexuals. No kidding.

After reading many topics.. I'm confused. Is this a JW forum or an ANTI-JW?
by MichaelM ini'm studying with a jehovah's witness and it makes quite a bit of sense but i've been reading many topics on here and it seems that i can find every christian denomination and every religion except jehovahs witnesses.
do any jw's actually browse here?
maybe i'm just getting unlucky and picking the wrong topics where everyones discussing about how they used to be jw's.

Welcome MichaelM. Just a thought: If they really have the truth, then you have nothing to fear from being here and reading the criticism. If it is really the truth it can stand up to it.

The WTBTS is the tool used by the governing body to dispense the "Truth" to it's followers. I can't understand why witnesses think that somehow the two can be separated. The stupid things that are printed in the WTBTS publications are from the "faithful and discreet slave", it's the written form of "current truth".
Do they think that even thought their Society has been wrong so many times before, they still have all the rules and regulations right? Ohhh, they missed by a mile about the generation and the start of Armageddon, but they were right about not joining the YMCA! Or playing chess. Or wearing beards. Or any of the other obnoxious, absurd, petty regulations they heap on their followers.
They don't have any prophetic understanding at all. They don't have the right to insert themselves so intimately into peoples lives. Why in the world would I choose to live by the rigid rules set forth by the Society if they don't even have the story right? It is one thing to live a good, clean, moral life. It is quite another to have to jump through the JW hoops. I think it's really rich when a JW says that someone left because they couldn't hack living a moral life. What a crock. Other people in other religions (and out of them) live moral, God-pleasing lives. Even those who celebrate birthdays and holidays.

Please, sisters -- one sheet only.
by Fatfreek ina newssource today quotes singer sheryl crow, an anti-global warming (which i applaud) activist, "i propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting.
now, i dont want to rob any law-abiding american of his or her god-given rights, but i think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required.".
not being a woman i don't know about that -- i have my doubts.

think that all the sane people left in America should barricade themselves in their bedrooms and pray that they are invaded by Venezuela so that life can return to normal.
Do they allow more than one square in Venezuela?

Perhaps, due to her celebrity, she is supplied with luxury, superabsorbant squares and she just doesn't know how the rest of us live?

She's obviously not taking into consideration the inevetible, enormous spike in water and soap consumption that will result from this "one square" idea. I'm pretty sure it would be more than enough to negate any good the conservation of toilet paper would do for the environment.

some people were asking on ian's thread what they could do to help, this site can help them answer that.. as an organ donor, i can tell you firsthand how amazing it is to be the one to help improve someones life so dramatically.
getting on the marrow registry is something i have considered for a long time but never acted on.

As an organ donor, I can tell you firsthand how amazing it is to be the one to help improve someones life so dramatically. Getting on the marrow registry is something I have considered for a long time but never acted on. When I read Ian's thread today I realized that someone might be waiting for me. On Monday I will be contacting the Blood Center of Wisconsin to start the process.
So, thank you Ian, for making me realize that it is time to act. I hope more than anything else that you find your donor.

Movies Better Than The Book
by littlerockguy inalthough it is sometimes hard to put so many elements of a novel into a 2 hour screenplay and motion picture and you end up reading the book and then watching the movie and wish they would have included stuff they left out.
however there are sometimes when you might watch the movie and end up more impressed with the movie and grown more attached to the movie than the book.
can you think of any movies you thought were better than the book it was based on?

Somewhere in Time. The book (Bid Time Return) was good, but the movie was better.
