I appreciate it when anyone holds a door for me and I try to do the same for others. I think that it is simple human kindness.

Thanks for holding the door.... *** SMACK ***
by Elsewhere inyesterday something happened that really pissed me off.
i was walking out of a store that has two doors you have to walk through... the inner door and the outer door.
basically a small foyer.. as i'm going through the inner door i notice a woman is behind be so i go on through and hold the door for her... she went right on through without a word and then went through the outer door, pushed it open and then let it fly back into my face.

My husband was brought into the back room for wearing his hair too short. At the time it was a flat top and someone who was to remain unnamed was offended by it-felt it was too military looking. My husband told them that was too bad since he wasn't going to change how he wore his hair. What do you know, the next thing almost all of the brothers were wearing super short cuts with suspiciously flat tops. Even two of the elders. Pretty stupid, but at least many of them finally got decent haircuts for a change.
I also just want to add that I don't really believe anyone was actually offended by his hair. I think that was an excuse made by the elder so he could assert his authority over us when we were "new in the truth".

Are you happier out of the org?
by dobbie inhi everyone i was just wondering if those of you that have left the org for whatever reason, have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?probably a daft question but i tried to talk to a friend about how i was feeling about a few things and why i don't go to meetings and she said would i really be any happier out than in?it just got me thinking about why i joined in the first place, because i was lonely and down, although i still am several years later it seems!have you found life better on the outside?did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?when i try to explain what i find hard in the religion they can always say something back that then makes me think i was wrong in the first place and it is the truth after all - aagh!

Much happier since I left. When I finally detached myself and realized I had passed the point of no return--I knew without a doubt is was not The Truth--it was like an enourmous weight had been lifted from my soul. A literal, physical feeling of having that weight removed. I have not regretted it for one single second. I have never been happier.

Looking Back, Is The Anything In That You'll Never Forget While A JW???
by minimus inwhile you were a witness, is there anything in particular that you'll never forget happening?
-

I'll never forget being out in service and feeling humiliated and embarrassed when a former schoolmate of mine opened the door and looked at me like I was crazy. And I'll never forget the fear I had after that incident that Jehovah would destroy me at Armageddon because I was ashamed to be out doing "his work".

Wow, what an assembly!!!!!!!!
by TooBad TooSad ini attended two days of the dc.
the only three points that i took home with me is that the end is near, higher education is a no no, and that the brothers have a problem with pornography.
i was in amazement at the number of witnesses that take notes as fast as the speaker is talking.

They cling to a spark of an idea which will tell the world, "You see, I wasn't an idiot delusional who threw his life away..."
Wow, truer words have never been spoken. How many of us were less concerned about the vindication of Jehovah's sovereignty than with showing all those worldy naysayers wrong when they were destroyed at Armageddon? How many times in FS did I hear a report of an uninterested householder "who would be sorry".

BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS Twisting a life-affirming law into death
by Terry inturning a life affirming rule into a death-dealing policy is an amazing accomplishment.
we can thank the watchtower society for a mindset which makes this possible.. i've gone into great detail before about the watchtower blood policy itself.
it is a blatant and deliberate publicity stunt which takes the rather simple prohibitions of the laws of noah for gentiles on murder .

i dont like smokers, well there habit but im not going to attack them and say they are killing there children through passive smoke. although by the sounds of it you might! :-)
I, for one, do not have a problem telling smokers that their second hand smoke is killing their children or mine or anyone elses. It does.
Do you have a problem with a person storing their own blood before a procedure? I am hardly going to give myself something I don't already have. What if my child is in an accident, can I give her my own blood? She got plenty of it when she was nursing. Your rationale ( or, rather, The Society's) against any use of blood does not apply to every situation. If you educate yourself and decide that it is safer for you to abstain, then by all means, do it. But everyone should have the option of making an EDUCATED decision on their own without the fear of sanction from a publishing company.

DC convention and financial irresponsibility
by sinis ini have heard dubs say in the past that since the end is coming, its ok to have debt or live a debt heavy life - thinking the end of this system will obsolve them of there financial burden.
i've seen more than a few posts here about the dc and the underlying theme of the end is very soon, so soon that we might not be here next year.
so with that in mind does anyone think that some, if not a few, might plunge into financial debt thinking the end will take care of any debt accumulated in this world?

My husband and I were very close friends with an elder who carried an astonishing amount of credit card debt. Enough to keep me awake at night and it wasn't even my problem. His theory was that he would never have to pay them off anyway, so why not?

A child's innocent questions about shunning
by Esmeralda inone night last week, my five year old daughter couldn't fall asleep.
we could hear her upstairs as she tossed and turned a bit, then finally reappeared from her bedroom and crept down the stairs.
"what's wrong?

What a beautiful post! I wish that I had answered my 9 year old so eloquently when she asked why her uncle doesn't like us anymore. My first thought was "Because he's a jackass." (I didn't say that of course) Thanks for sharing. I think I'll go hug my kids.

I can't even remember my last meeting, that is how inconsequential it was. But I do remember the last visit I had from an elder to encourage me. He told me how important it is to be at the meetings, to be with "Jehovah's People" because it is soooooooooo close to the end. I just smiled and nodded, said I knew, and closed the door while he repeated that the end is coming.
