I was too afraid to look at this board until I was already pretty sure they didn't have the Truth. And I research everything I read here, so you can't say it was this board alone that did it. I would say that the posters here showed me where to go to find the info I needed to make an informed decision. And it also helped to know that I was not alone in my thoughts.

How many here have left the org because of this board?
by mrsjones5 ini ask this question because saki said this in another topic:and i would assume that a lot of people on this board left due to this board alone "proving" the lies of the wts.
so, it this true or false?
or is this mostly true or mostly false?

I met Homer Simpson (Dan Castelanetta) at a wedding. A relative of mine is related to him through her marriage. He is a very, very funny man.

A bit reluctant
by saki2fifty ini'm a bit reluctant in writing this post, for i dont feel i should be here.
even a bit nervous... .
i've never officially dedicated myself to jehovah, but i was brought up in the truth, very strong, and at times when getting older, there were lulls in my attendance... yet to this day i still attend.

Welcome saki-
Many people who belong to other religions have exactly the same experiences as you. They feel surrounded by love, they had ideal childhoods, they are taught to lead clean, moral lives. Does that mean they have the truth? Or would you feel compelled in your ministry to help them leave all of that because it is actually false religion (according to the Society)? Don't you think that it is important for people to know the whole story about where their belief system originated and what its leaders have said and done in the past? Maybe it wouldn't matter to you, but it matters to some of us.
I don't come here to be bitter (although sometimes I certainly am), I come to learn. To hear about others experiences. It helps me know that I am not alone. I believed in the WTS and truly thought I would be killed by God at Armageddon because I had doubts about certain things. I did not experience the love in the Congregation that some people like to talk about. Since I left I have never been happier. And I can tell you, the truth really does set you free.

Yates verdict
by sammielee24 inthe andrea yates verdict came down again and it was not guilty.
she will be sent to a mental facility instead of prison where in time, and after therapy, she may in all liklihood be reintegrated into society at some point.
what do you think of the verdict?

All I can think about when I see her is that she has to somehow live with herself after what she did. I know I wouldn't be able to.

Sort of morbid question
by unbeliever inthis came to my mind after i read 24k's would you go back thread.
just say when armageddon came jehovah gave you one last chance to repent of your apostate ways and live for eternity with jw's.
would you take jehovah up on this offer or ask him to strike you dead?

I'm with Warlock on this one. The elders have proven themselves so ineffective, I think that my family could get away with a few eons of hiding before anyone found us. That might be worth it.

Thanks for holding the door.... *** SMACK ***
by Elsewhere inyesterday something happened that really pissed me off.
i was walking out of a store that has two doors you have to walk through... the inner door and the outer door.
basically a small foyer.. as i'm going through the inner door i notice a woman is behind be so i go on through and hold the door for her... she went right on through without a word and then went through the outer door, pushed it open and then let it fly back into my face.

I appreciate it when anyone holds a door for me and I try to do the same for others. I think that it is simple human kindness.

My husband was brought into the back room for wearing his hair too short. At the time it was a flat top and someone who was to remain unnamed was offended by it-felt it was too military looking. My husband told them that was too bad since he wasn't going to change how he wore his hair. What do you know, the next thing almost all of the brothers were wearing super short cuts with suspiciously flat tops. Even two of the elders. Pretty stupid, but at least many of them finally got decent haircuts for a change.
I also just want to add that I don't really believe anyone was actually offended by his hair. I think that was an excuse made by the elder so he could assert his authority over us when we were "new in the truth".

Are you happier out of the org?
by dobbie inhi everyone i was just wondering if those of you that have left the org for whatever reason, have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?probably a daft question but i tried to talk to a friend about how i was feeling about a few things and why i don't go to meetings and she said would i really be any happier out than in?it just got me thinking about why i joined in the first place, because i was lonely and down, although i still am several years later it seems!have you found life better on the outside?did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?when i try to explain what i find hard in the religion they can always say something back that then makes me think i was wrong in the first place and it is the truth after all - aagh!

Much happier since I left. When I finally detached myself and realized I had passed the point of no return--I knew without a doubt is was not The Truth--it was like an enourmous weight had been lifted from my soul. A literal, physical feeling of having that weight removed. I have not regretted it for one single second. I have never been happier.

Looking Back, Is The Anything In That You'll Never Forget While A JW???
by minimus inwhile you were a witness, is there anything in particular that you'll never forget happening?
-
elliej
I'll never forget being out in service and feeling humiliated and embarrassed when a former schoolmate of mine opened the door and looked at me like I was crazy. And I'll never forget the fear I had after that incident that Jehovah would destroy me at Armageddon because I was ashamed to be out doing "his work".

Wow, what an assembly!!!!!!!!
by TooBad TooSad ini attended two days of the dc.
the only three points that i took home with me is that the end is near, higher education is a no no, and that the brothers have a problem with pornography.
i was in amazement at the number of witnesses that take notes as fast as the speaker is talking.

They cling to a spark of an idea which will tell the world, "You see, I wasn't an idiot delusional who threw his life away..."
Wow, truer words have never been spoken. How many of us were less concerned about the vindication of Jehovah's sovereignty than with showing all those worldy naysayers wrong when they were destroyed at Armageddon? How many times in FS did I hear a report of an uninterested householder "who would be sorry".
