by the widow inbecause of my background with the witless ones, when my husband died it was hard to believe he was in heaven.
i could hope there is a heaven for those who die.

Welcome nomoreguilt,
You've posted in Child Abuse by the way. You need to pick your category from the general forum, ie Friends might be more appropriate.
Dubs is a general name for JWs - GB = Governing Body, Congo is a congregation, NWT is the JW bible, (also Not Wholly True), can't think of anymore at the moment.

Jonah written by Jonah?
by LtCmd.Lore inwhy does everyone seem to think that the book of jonah was written by jonah?
i couldn't find any reason for this anywhere online.
i found plenty of religious sites that made the assertion, including the wts, but no reason for it.

I understand that the book of Jonah is read in its entirety on the day of atonement, probably the most holy day in the Jewish calender. This is apprently due to its story of God's willingness to forgive those who repent. I find this quite ironic since I've seen the book described as a kind of protest at the exclusiveness of a post exilic Judaism that championed the notion of an exclusive and "pure" race. In other words it offers the theme of Jehovah being not just the God of Isreal but the God of all nations. Narkissos I can think of a number of reasons why you might describe the author(s) as "smart", but specifically why do you say that?

Ironic when you think that the Society has been flogging an enormous turkey for years.

get rich quick schemes, multilevel marketing, pyramid schemes and JWs
by marmot infrom my experience growing up in the jws there were two big recurring themes when it came to making money: .
1 - window washing or other janitorial work .
2 - cheezy "get rich quick" schemes and other cult-like sales practices .

In an ideal world (paradise earth?) the WBTS could sell janitorial and window cleaning products through its vast sales network, ie the Witnesses.

JF Rutherford: Do Ya Think He Liked Attention??? (duh)
by Open mind inwell this week's book study wraps up the seventh trumpet blast of revelation.
there was even a nice neat box showing how they all were "highlighted" by something the dubs did in the 1920's.
almost all the blasts were some dry-as-toast, "look at me" speech given by jf rutherford at various conventions.

Conversely, the people selling these schemes love JWs because they come with a built-in trusting social network.
Absolutely right. The JWs grow in a similar way that MLM businesses are designed to, ie so called geometric progression. One introduces 5 others, those 5 each introduce another five others making 25 and so on. The product is books and magazines, with the people at the top of the pyramid taking all the money and not paying commissions. It's a nice business model for the WBTS as people look to Jehovah to square them up and not the Society.
