  What is the meaning of Apostate?

  the dictionary defines apostate as "one who practices apostasy, to revolt".

  doesn't this apply to just about anyone?

  jw's wanted us to think that the word has more meaning into it then it really does.

  I'm glad to say I didn't convert anyone. Even if I had I think I would have redressed the balance over the years by slagging JWs off left right and centre. If I ever got a hint of someone in my sphere showing any interest or even sympathy to the JWs I'm in there with the full lecture.

  For some reason she used to do her hair the same way as me and dress the same etc. Strange that

  A Guide Book To a Better Life?

  over the years i have studied and studied the bible, reading it through about 5 times so far.

  taking books of notes and finding..so, many people are so wrong.

  the way the words are twisted, making one scripture contradict the others.

  Good question Niecy. It's inevitable that we're drawn to the scriptures that are common to our society. After all a human's religion is more often than not dictated by where he was born, ie Middle East - Islam; Europe - Christian; - India -Hindu etc. I

  've always read the Bible since I was small child and have kind of grown up assuming it has dark secrets to be unlocked, paticularly the Revelation part. The JWs taught me to "fear" the Bible and take everything literally that was written in it.

  I don't really buy into the idea of a "true religion" anymore but believe that words written by or about spiritual people of old, whether it's Jesus, Buddha, Guru Nanak or whoever are fascinating and worthy of respect. You can then make your mind up whether you want to or are able to live by these ideals. So not to answer your question exactly, I see the Bible as a gift.

  JW Membership Stats in 1920s and 1930s

  but have not been able to locate the membership statistics for the jws in the 1920s and 1930s.

  Not sure if therapy is the word. I’ve visited this forum on and off for about 2 years; mainly to see what scandal there was. Only recently I’ve joined and it feels totally different. It feels very good in fact. I’m so glad I’ve been baptized into the forum and feel part of something where people talk the same language. There are tons of differing views here but generally people get on and exchange ideas, pain, jokes and experiences with remarkably little conflict.
  The variations in posts are also what gives the site real appeal.
  Do you think Jesus was the Messiah?
  Is Darwinism Victorian Determinism at its worst?
  Do you like kebabs?
  I’m on the GB and I want to leave and get into Porn films. What do you suggest?

  It’s not only a great community, but it’s chiral science in action. We are like a mirror of those still trapped in “the truth”, except we’re the “saved ones.”

  DAMNED CONSCIENCE:JW Hypocrites Who Take Blood Products

  the blood letters by r jensen made riveting reading.

  thank you to the posters who advised about the availability of these letters: a lone elders attempts to elicit some sense from the rigidly nonsensical watchtower's pick-and-choose blood transfusion doctrine.

  the guy was probably doomed from the start, but i so admire his persistence and courage!

  Very good point.

  Firstly yes they are hypocrites, and not just in the blood department of course.

  I’m a blood donor now and if my blood saved a JW that would be great. If my blood helped someone who’d crashed his car because he was drunk, that’s ok too. They’re not the same thing of course but then when it comes to preserving a life that’s what counts. Let the JWs live with their consciences. It’s one more anomaly that might make them think that what they’re into doesn’t make sense. I think if the WTS thought they could rescind their blood policy in the same way they did with the vaccine policy they would.

  But now they’ve painted themselves into a corner. They’d not only lose yet more credibility, they’d have retrospective law suits by the hundreds.

  So in the meantime I say let them have the blood we’ve donated, smile about it, feel good about it and let them live with themselves.

  Circuit Overseer Celebrities?

  i am a active jw, but one question i would like to know is why do these 'men' get treated as superstar celebrities when they attend the congregation?.

  for as long as i can remember, there seems to be a 'buzz of excitement' when it is announced that he and his wife are due to visit.

  what is so special about them?.

  Pre Armageddon Preparation.

  are there jws who prepare for the tribulations they assume are around the corner?

  when i visted the us once in 1999 i met a few guys who were expecting a global meltdown due to the millenium bug.. as a consequence they had generators, guns, ammo, tins of food, bottled water, fuel, all kinds of stuff to help them through a civil disorder situation.

  does anyone know or remember any jws who have prepared like this?
