Jeff, good point about reading the bible alone for 3 years. The borg already say that if people leave the Watchtower they may go back to old wrong beliefs. Your point shows that without any pre conceived ideas people would never get the 'unique' Watchtower doctrines that are taught to people when they sign up for a study with the Witnesses.

August 1 Watchtower on my desk!
by AK - Jeff inmy wife encountered a jw today at the uptown laundry where she goes to dry blankets and large items from time to time.. i had just asked her an hour earlier to look around and see if any mags were laying around there - i don't know why.
i just wanted to see if any major layout changes were taking place with the watchliar and asleep lately.. i have not opened them.
i am looking though at the cover of the tower - cover title 'how can you choose a good religion?

Jesus let me down! I can no longer trust anything he says.
by ThomasCovenant inwatchtower 1980 15th october questions from readers.
''we can be happy, therefore, for jesus assurance.
that there will be survivors of the generation of 1914. that this generation will not have completely passed away.

Considering that the 1914 date is based on false chronology and the Watchtower have shown they haven't a clue what was meant by the words 'this generation and the great tribulation' I think I will put my trust in Jesus

I hate it but have to be patient
by wha happened? inwifey and i were talking.
she got into the cult thinking that morality is worse than ever.. i asked her..... as a women do u have more or less rights from a 100 years ago.
answer?

Absolutely spot on. Witnesses love to tell you about anything on the news that is negative. I would bet anything that at the moment they are going round the doors telling people that swine flu is a clear sign we are in the time of the end.
Like you I have to be patient. My son is still in. The bottom line for me is, would you rather live now or say 100 years ago. They have no sensable answer. We are so much better off now than anytime in the past. This week in Britain we have had two of our eldest men die. One was 111 and the other 113. Compare that to 100 years ago

is my baptisum as a minor vaild?
by highdose inas a young minor, barely into my teens i was in a congo that had extreme peer pressure to get baptized.
in fact you were seen as a bad person if you didn't, and everyone else my age was, the threat was that if you were the last to get baptized of your generation then you would be seen as unspiritual.. this and some other things have troubled me since:.
when i came to be baptized i was suffering from an illness that greatly affected my concentration.. when it came to the assembly and i had to stand and answer those two questions i was shaking so much i didn't actauly say anything, in fact my mouth wouldn't open.. i am totaly sure that if i had waited until age 30 to get baptized as jesus did, i never would have got baptized at all.. so my question is: was my baptisum actualy vaild?

I'm sorry to say I think your baptism will stand as far as the local elders are concerned. After all anybody could use that excuse when they finally realize they need to get out of the religeon. If that is how you feel now, ther are two ways to leave. One is by simply fading away as I have done or formally disassociate yourself. It depends very much on whether you still have family in. I have heard of people who get rebaptised who felt there original baptism did not mean anything.

Smoking tobacco- ex-JW's have a warped view, so what should we do?
by OnTheWayOut ini used to smoke cigarettes.
i quit as i was learning the lies of the watchtower organization.. i used to smoke between 1 and 3 packs a day depending on whether i went drinking or not.. .
i didn't really quit for the religion, but as i was learning it.. i swore to quit when cigarettes got to cost me more than a buck a pack.
-

The point is with cigs. that not only do they harm the smoker but they are disgusting for non smokers.
Although it is stupid that the Tower disfellowships people who smoke, it certainly is an anti christian habit. You are certainly not putting other peoples interests first as a true christian would.

As my interest wanes............
by AK - Jeff inall things jw and xjw and even xxjw are beginning to bore me.
tonight, in an effort to stimulate my interest, i cruised back thru threads of the past month or so.
while i found a couple topics of mild interest, and a couple more in which i found it worth effort to make personal comment, i was mostly bored.. i have come to grips with my past religious history.

For those of us that have friends or family still in this is still a useful site to be part of. Through this site I have learnt many things and that makes it so much easier to help others that might be sucked in by the Tower. Info. from this site can enable me to comment on sites like youtube. If my comments just help one person then it is worth it.

Recording a Judicial Committee Hearing
by Olin Moyles Ghost ini was reading the thread about hoboken's jc meeting and started thinking about the rule prohibiting recording devices in such meetings.
has anyone on the board tried to challenge this rule?.
on its face, the rule is absurd.

It must be so much easier now to disfellowship someone since they changed the baptism vows in the eighties.
After all, part of your vow is to agree to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with his earthly organisation, ie the governing body.
As soon as you say you disagree with something they have said, they can quite reasonably chuck you out. You are breaking the agreement.

There is no good reason to leave
by verystupid77 ini have been thinking of this all night.
have you ever tired to tell on of the witnesses that you are happier and doing better outside of the truth?.
no matter what you say it is never a good reason to leave.

I am lookin forward to my eldest son's wedding on Aug 15th. It is mainly a witness do and I shall have great fun telling them how happy I am now and that I've been able to take early retirement. My best friend when I was a witness simply rented his house. No thought about buying it as the end was so near. If he is still renting he is not going to have a very good retirement financially. I will feel sorry for him but at the end of the day each of us has a choice, and his was to stay with the org. and he will have to face the consequentses.

Neutrality- the wbts
by bobld ini would like the preface my statement:there is a religion that is totally neutral in wars, neutral in gov't, neutral in the judiciary, however that religion is not the j.w./wbts.the reason is the wbts uses the court system to fight it's battles.as an example a court case in canada about blood.they lost the case so now they must obey satan's system/gov't.they cannot now say we must obey god rather than man because they put their faith in satan's system hoping for victory which came not.another case in france, they did not want to pay what the gov't asked,so they used satan's system and lost.why put faith in satan system hoping you can get a short repreeve.how can they say they are neutral when they use satan's system.another example would be flag saluting, take it to court and lose,so now you have to salute(took god out of the picture).. how many ot examples are there that the nation of israel went to the pagan's court.why did not jesus call for angelic help when he was before the court(sanhedrin).yes the j.w./wbts have a very narrow view of neutrality.it is not only war,it is gov't,it is the judiciary as a battle ground as well.. bob.
ps:the court system has changed over the years: look at how liberal it is today, same sex marriages, gay rights, etc, so is the wbts putting faith in the court system.it will sting them in the behind..

Great information folks, on the tower still being heavilly involved with the affairs of the nations. How they can say they are neutral as to the worlds affairs beats me.
Just going back to the money issues we spoke about earlier, it is true the governing body have little personal wealth, but then they don't need it. Every thing they want is paid for by Watchtower. Free board and lodgings in the best Watchtower apartments, all bills paid for, trips around the world with everything paid for, a nice new car to travel in and finally such power that practically every word they utter is applauded and agreed with.
Hmm I think that is a pretty nice life!

Being neutral is not just about fighting in a war.
Romans 13.1-4 very clearly says that that it is God's minister for doing good. If the Watchtower feels its money is being threatened then the neutrality goes out of the window. In case after case they show they are very far from being neutral. A good example is the UN scandle where they became an NGO so they could use the United Nations to further their ambitions. The things the society fights about are very rarely to do with obeying God's law rather than caesars. It is nearly always to protect their precious organisation. It is just another example of the societies double standards. Say one thing then do the complete opposite.
