new watchtower, new songbook, new funeral arrangement *gasps*!!!
by make yourself inok so i went to a jehovah witness funeral last week and i noticed a lot of changes.
first of all it did not start with a prayer, and they had one brother come up in the beginning and talk about the diseased relatives family and their qualities then had another brother come up and do the scriptures and then the brother who came up at the start to close with a prayer and no song.
and also there was only one prayer the whole time and that was at the end.

John the Baptizer: Mystery and Folklore
by cameo-d ini found something interesting that has just recently (2 wks.
ago) been uploaded into wiki.. it is a coin, described as "20 grani, order of malta, 1742. obverse depicts the head of john the baptist on a platter.".
you can see the image here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/file:20_grani,_order_of_malta.jpg.

A question for all JWs, regarding women
by dgp inmy reason to ask this question was another thread by highdose, on whether people felt sorry for subjugated women in the organization.. with all the advances that women have undoubtedly made, is there any well-hidden anger among the sisters, for the role they have to play?
are there any complaints about it?
do you see the society responding to those complaints as, say, the catholic church sort of has, by allowing women to give the host at mass?

I think the ones that stay in are fairly happy for their husbands to make the main decisions. It is nothing like the situation with the muslims.
Remember the society do reccommend that husbands and wives should make decisions together. It is only if there is a clear difference in their views, then the husband makes the final desision.
I think most women in the org. are fairly happy with that.

He was of course a baptiser, so I think the witnesses have it right calling him that.
What I was wondering is what made him start baptising people. Was it a command from God or did he dream it up.
Would appreciate some help on this. Thanks

It's a good point actually. I think many ex witnesses were shown how many of the world's religions were wrong and hypicritical and then we found out that so are the witnesses, it allowed us to revaluate how lives and many of us realize that many things that were banned to us are actually perfectly perfectly all right
Personally I think that things like abortion, euthanasia, gay couples, can all be good in certain circunstances. Before of course they were a
definate no no to us.
I really feel I have got my life back now, and can make informed decisions based on my conscience instead of someone elses.

Define "Ex jw"?
by highdose ininspired from another current thread.
i note some people are asking if they are allowed to participate in a questionaire for ex jw's if they are just fading or have not been df'd?.
my own situation is this: tecnicaly i am a jw, baptised as a young tweeny and never reproved, df'd or da'd.

Totally agree. I used to belong to a tennis club, but now I dont, therefor I am a an ex tennis club member. It's not rocket science is it.
Like you I have faded because of the terrible consequencies if you are in a JW family and you formally write to tell them you no longer wish to be one.
There must be thousands of ex witnesses that have faded and would love to tell the WT what they think of them but the WT has made that impossable
So we do the next best thing, and that is warn others about this evil cult, and that way hopefully we are stopping many others make the same mistake as we did.

motherin law mixes with a molester but not her daughter .
by looloo inthis really confuses me , a few years back when i told her of my daughters abuse , she told me they have someone in the family who is a bit "funny" i asked her to explain , she said her bro inlaw had been accused of touching up her neice and older daughter in the past but her sister wanted to stay with him !
i cant believe she hadnt warned me about him till that point as we had stayed overnight with them and my kids , it appears it was all brushed under the carpet and life carried on , a few years later she takes her 16 year old daughter and her best friend to stay with him and his wife but didnt think it appropriate to take a daughter to visit her other disfllowshipped daughter , who is a wonderful wife and mother and sweet lady because it would be a bad witness to her daughters friend !
yet it was ok to take this young girl to stay over with someone who she knew "liked young girls" i wonder who the girls parents would rather their daughter visited !

The whole religion is very mixed up. Normal feelings and relationships are often not there.
If you think about it, any religion that can cut you off dead from your family simply because you no longer believe what they do is really one you want to avoid like the plague.
There are many, many cases where sexual abuse has been covered up. Just go to the silent lambs website and read all the horrific stories of JW victims of abuse.

Immunizations?
by crazy2try ini have a question.
today at work a woman was saying that she was upset because the foster mother of her children had taken the children to the dr and they received their immunization shots.
she told a co-worker that she was mad because they did not respect her beliefs.
-
alanv
All the above is true, but these days as far as I am aware most witnesses would not even question this. They simply have injections as a matter of course

so why dont they cut to the chase at the door???
by oompa inas in..."hi, my name is soa fraid and i hope you will accept my offer for a free home bible study.
the reason you should accept this free offer is that our leaders, the men who have compiled the material for this study receive direct communication from god, and he speaks to no other religion on earth.
they then write down what god has told them to, and publish it in a zillion languages so that we can teach people what god really meant in his new world translation of the holy scriptures...you may refer to it as the bible.

People used to say to me regularly 'I'm not interested in Jehovah's Witnesses. I would say innocently. We're not here to talk about them. We're here to talk about the bible.
Yeh right.

What's your plans on the JW Memorial night?
by dissed infor the last 13 years, we haven't attended and didn't even care about it.
but since we became card carrying members of jwn in september, we have an interest in what are friends here on jwn are doing.. for us?
we will be watching 'dancing with the stars'.
-
alanv
In the UK it's Eastenders night so I shall be watching that. Also be hoping the memorial partakers goes up again and looking forward to the JWs sq uirm in embarrasment when the figures are published. Remember this from WT 1980 October 15th p31
And if the wicked system of this world survived until the turn of the century, which is highly improbable in view of world trends and the fulfillment of Bible prophecy, there would still be survivors of the World War I generation. However, the fact that their number is dwindling is one more indication that “the conclusion of the system of things” is moving fast toward its end.
Classic!!
