I don’t believe that a previously installed version of linux will boot if certain hardware, like graphic cards, have been changed from a previous configuration (I'm assuming you've just swapped hardrives in to a new machine). You must reinstall a base version of linux, then install the drivers specific for the hardware (e.,g. motherboard) you have. You should be able to go to the nvidia site and download the motherboard drivers for linux.

My new PC Sucks :( HELP!!!
by Nosferatu ini'm sitting here looking at jwd in a 16 color win2k, using my old ethernet card to connect to the internet, and ubuntu linux won't install.. i'm trying to find drivers for my hardware, but it's so new that it's difficult to find anything.
i formatted the hard drive because i didn't want that slow, chunky windows vista piece of shit.
unfortunately, the hard drive also contained the drivers for my hardware (vista drivers of course) and this damn thing didn't come with a cd rom full of drivers.. i'm currently using my old ethernet card to connect, but i can't permanently use it because there's only two spots left on the motherboard - i want to plug in my tv tuner card and soundblaster.. can anybody help me?.

Are you sure you only have 512 MB RAM? That’s not enough to run vista. I suppose Linux might work, but win-xp or vista--no way! I did a quick search for Linux installs and here's a link with some configuration information http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=457&num=1 .
I suspect that only win-xp or vista will have all the drivers available at this time for all the additional hardware you want to add, but you can do a Google search to see what is available for linux. Also, you can check with Nivida (i.e., their web site) for the latest mother board drivers. Since you bought a license for vista, you should be able to get back to your supplier and usually for $10/$20 (us) more you can get the release on dvd. Of course, after installing vista, you must install the drivers for the mother board electronics followed by a reboot of your machine. You’ll need at least 2 gigs of RAM to run vista (1 gig for xp), and probably at least 256 megs of video memory (which is integrated on your mother board). Make sure you pull out the Ethernet card before doing the install, since you’ll no doubt want to use the onboard Ethernet electronics. Remember that your board electronics won’t be fully working (e.g., you'll get a low-resolution display) until you install the mother board drivers (did you get a install disk for this?).Hope this helps,

Yes Blondie, more programming for the minions! Thanks for your weekly coverage once again! However, I have to put my goggles on when I read most of your comments, because the “light” is a little too bright for me, sorry, hehe! Take care, and many thanks again for your coverages of the WT! I only wish you, your coverage, and the Internet were around 20 years ago, so I wouldn’t be in the position I am now!
With best regards, (Please, do keep up your garden... sounds like fun!)

Hambaek,
Hugs…
I’m so sorry for your loss, but I know the WT has driven you over the edge! I am in a similar position, with family not accepting my rejection of Mommy-WT! I hope your kids, at some point, will realize that they miss their parent and will talk to you regardless of your situation. If not, you’ll have to move on; and I know this may be very difficult for you and I’m very sorry for you! My heart goes out to you!
With loving regards,

JWs: "YOU must pray, then, this way: 'Our Father...'"
by AuldSoul inmatthew 6:9 "you must pray, then, this way: our father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.
'" (nwt).
we know the bible shows jesus praying to his father, but who is our father?.

AuldSoul,
I’m not exactly sure what you are trying to get at in this thread, but if you’re suggesting that the “Our Father” in the “Lord’s Prayer” is Jesus himself, because in Isaiah 9:6 he is prophetically called an “Eternal Father,” then I would have to kindly disagree. I just don’t see the connection here since Jesus was merely showing how to pray to God. However, I do agree with you in that the WT reduces Jesus’ role to a position of insignificance, in comparison to the “organization.” In effect, the “organization” is the (false) Messiah of the WT. And I also suspect that 1st century Christians talked (prayed?) to Jesus directly after his resurrection, asking him for help the same as they did when he walked the earth.
Regarding Isaiah 9:6, the Oxford Bible Commentary has an interesting comment:
v. 6, here is the climax of the Psalm. If as is quite likely, God is the speaker, then what seems like an announcement of a birth may more properly be understood as a coronation or enthronement of an earthly king (cf. Ps 2:7), where the king is proclaimed as God’s son. What follows is a series of titles, possibly comparable to the titles given to Egyptian pharaohs (von Rad 1966a). Four throne-names are given to the newly crowned ruler: ‘Wonderful Counselor’ speaks of the potential achievements of the king: the word translated ‘wonderful’ comes from the same root as that regularly used of God’s mighty deliverance at the Exodus. ‘Mighty God’ may imply divine kingship, for which there is some evidence in ancient Israel (cf. Ps 45:6), or ‘God’ here may be a kind of superlative: ‘Divine Warrior’. ‘Everlasting Father’ brings out the theme of the king as protector, ‘father’, of his people; and ‘Prince of Peace’ implies both freedom from war and the prosperity implicit in salom. In traditional Judaism, these oracles were applied to Hezekiah, around whom an elaborate series of legends developed. In Christianity, the belief of the early followers of Jesus concerning his Status made it natural for these words to be applied to him also, though NT allusions are only implicit (Jacob 1987: 141).

March 4th Public Talk....''Satan and Demons use many traps to stumble us.''
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe public talk was how satan uses his demons to stumble us.satan knows where we live, work and what we do at work and home.his demons use television, music, the internet, movies, sex and apostates to stumble faithful jehovah's witnesses.. the "spiritually weak" are what the demons look for because they can be attacked so easily.these are the ones who don't have studies with their families, watch too much television,go on the internet looking at apostate sites, brothers and sisters who are obsessed with sex, taking too many vacations, the love of money and all the pleasures of this world.that is why the wts loose so many members each year.. what they never tell you the real reason why most members leave are:,.
lack of love,elders as judges arrangment,inconstistency in teachings,1914 generation change,theological dishonesty,scholastic ineptitude,favoritism within the boe,hypocrisy, and false prophesies.. .

Hey Rules,
Was this a "Special Talk" or from a new talk outline given to edlers. If a new talk outline, can you find out the outline # and I'll post a scanned copy of it (I have most of the current outlines).
Thanks!

My plan--fully revealed
by Junction-Guy ini think most of you already know what i have been planning.
i have mentioned it somewhat already.
i have sent bits of pieces of my story to several christian ministries, and they want to know more.

Hey dude,
I don't know what to say here, just that I'm sorry for you, I just don't understand. I have no idea about your struggles! I'm sorry for you, because you are obviously hurting! Perhaps, only you know what troubles you, and will have to figure it out in the long run. Obviously, strong emotions are flying around in your head, and you're trying to sort things out. Your x-wife must be a wonderful person for still talking to you and wanting to be your friend, since most (JW) women would have left you long in the dust! And where people are unsure about their sexuality, I believe it is similar to the JW-thing, i.e., some leave and join a church, only to find that they don't fit there either! You may be experiencing something similar, but with your sexuality. I simply don't know. You may wish to seek a help from a professional like you say. I wish you the best on your journey, however! Take care, and we at the JWD board, are always here for you! PEACE! Hang in there!

Unlike other cancer drugs, DCA did not appear to have any negative effect on normal cells. A manufactured molecule, DCA is widely available at “every chemistry store,” Bonnet said. It could provide an extremely inexpensive cancer therapy because it’s not patented.

Do Elders find the inactive and faders hard to deal with?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini've been inactive for 5 years now.i was taken off the ministry school, no hours in service, don't comment at the watchtower study and only attend 1 meeting per week.the elders try to see if i want to study with someone and i refuse.. have the elders marked me without telling me?
do they want to bother with members like me?
what is their next step?

You might want to be careful (assuming you just want to fade and not be DA'd) about some of the probing questions that elders may ask you. At the last elder's shool I attended some years ago (I've faded away a little over 2 years now), they had us write down several questions that we should ask inactive ones. One was, "Do you still consider yourself one of Jehovah's Witnesses?" We were told that if the person said "yes" then offer a Bible study and a pickup for meetings, but if they said "no" it would be grounds to make an anouncement that such-and-such "is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses."

What Have YOU Learned Since Leaving???
by minimus inanything you'd like to share with us??
i learned that i truly was in a cult.
i originally hated that thought.

I learned that I should have gone to college instead of pioneering and Bethel. I regret not saving money for retirement or making plans for when I can no longer work; now I’m in real trouble at my age! I realize now how little of the Bible I really understood as a JW for 44 years. I could go on-and-on, but these issues come immediately to mind.
