You may know of some who were gradually distracted from Christian activities and from the congregation; now they show no inclination to return to Jehovah's service.
You bet! I have NO desire to be in the Watchtower’s service ever again!!!

Leaving Watchtower vs. coming out of the closet
by jstalin inas some or most of you may know, i'm gay, and i've recently been coming out of the closet after being repressed most of my life.
well, as i read a number of the testimonials here about leaving the watchtower, it strikes me how familiar the feelings of those who are contemplating leaving are so similar to mine in coming out.
the fear of what people will think, how it will affect lives, the change in life path, disappointment of famliy members, the sense of freedom after it's been done, etc.

Welcome jstalin!
Someone on this board made a comment some time ago about how JW’s are in the FOG, meaning that they are controlled by Fear, Obligation, and Guilt! And I suspect that many closeted gays are living a lifestyle that isn’t true to their inner beliefs and emotions. They too are living in the FOG. What a relief it is though not to pretend to be somebody you are not!
Active JW’s live a scripted-life where the dictates of a few people control absolutely everything (including permissible sex acts between married couples). To get out of FOG, JW’s face being expelled from the Congregation, and this often leads to their family and close friends no longer speaking to them! Finally, consider a JW who is a gay, but has to pretend s/he isn’t because of being in the FOG! And yet there have been those in that position that have posted on this board, who continue to struggle with this dilemma.
Therefore, count your blessings that you aren’t coming out of the closet as a gay-JW! I mean this in a kindly way.
Say, on another note, what are you studying in college?
Take care!

Illegal immigrants and the increase in JW #s in the USA
by cyberguy ini asked a jw fiend of mine, an elder in a spanish congregation in the usa (ohio), how many of those attending were illegal immigrants.
i was a little surprised by his answer that nearly all of them were!
i suspect this is true of most of the jw spanish congregations in the usa.

I asked a JW fiend of mine, an elder in a Spanish Congregation in the USA (Ohio), how many of those attending were illegal immigrants. I was a little surprised by his answer that nearly all of them were! I suspect this is true of most of the JW Spanish Congregations in the USA. Since the numbers are falling in English Congregations, I’m wondering if the marginal increase in "publishers" is the result of the huge influx of illegal immigrants.

Speaking to an Elder tomarrow, I'm almost free!!!!!!!
by drew sagan inmajor developments in my world, just wanted to let you all know about it.
i'm meeting with the elder tomarrow afternoon.
i'm going to stick heavy to the watchtowers interpretation of matthew 24 and how it is unbalanced, sensationalized and out of touch with any historical evidence or respect for the bible.

I wish you the best Drew! One of the things I learned early on was that the “composite sign” that JW’s talk about is really the “NOT-a-sign” or “NOT sign”! Of course, there are a number of charismatic groups out there that hold to similar views as JW’s (JW’s didn’t invent this stuff as you probably know), that you can somehow look at events on earth as a sign of Jesus 2nd return. However, Jesus initial answer to the disciples was “Look out that nobody misleads YOU; for…” The “for” word means that what follows is connected with what was just said, and this is the recorded response of Jesus in all 3 Gospels! This was brought out in Carl’s “Gentiles Reconsidered” book, and “The Sign of the Last Days, When?” Interestingly, I actually learned about this while in Bethel, from someone in Writing back in 1979. The sad part is that some of these church leaders know their interpretation is problematic. In fact, the title of Russel’s 2nd book, “The Time is at Hand!” is based on Luke 21:8, which is based on a warning that Jesus gave NOT to follow those who say “the time is at hand” (KJ). The JW-organization had the facts backward from the very beginning!
Another bomb you can drop on someone is the crazy interpretation of Matt. 28:17, where Jesus says “All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth.” Do you realize that in keeping with their bizarre 1914 teaching, JW’s believe that this had not occurred at the time Jesus spoke it, but rather Jesus was only making a future promise that would be finally fulfilled in 1914! You see, they can’t accept a natural reading of the text, for to do so would be to admit that Jesus did not have to wait until 1914. Finally, have them turn to the Insight book, vol. 2, p. 61, under “Jesus Christ – The full significance of his ‘name’”. Read the paragraphs and look up the scriptures in the first couple of paragraphs. This information got a friend of mine out of the mindless monstrosity.
Cheers! -

I did the same thing about a year ago, and a JW turned me in to the elders when they saw all the books in the trash! As regards bound volumnes, I heard they won't print them anymore--maybe that was only a rumor.

I’ve used many expletives in my life, especially when I’ve hit my finger with a hammer! However, I’ve seen some words and expressions used recently on this board that should be edited-out in my humble opinion! Okay, if you absolutely need to use a curse word, just put the first letter then some “***”. It’s not a matter of JW’ism or Christianity, it’s one of being civilized! You reduce your creditability and argumentation greatly when your curse! And Simon does not want such language on this board (or at least this what I’ve always believed)! Please, those that are supposed to monitor this site, edit-out the curse words/expressions, and tell those that this board isn’t a place for it!
Thanks! Just a friendly reminder!

Is the New World Translation of the Bible Credible?
by Scissorhands injehovah's witnesses claim that the new world translation (nwt) is the "work of competent scholars.
" conversely, they contend that other bible translations are corrupted by religious traditions that are rooted in paganism.
in reality, the nwt is the work of a bible translation committee with no working knowledge of biblical languages.
-
cyberguy
Scissorhands,
I too don’t believe the NWT is a very good translation either! However, the cross verses stake dissension isn’t an issue with me, because Jesus probably died on a cross-like structure, but the Greek text is inconclusive in this matter as far as I understand. So making an issue out of this is utter nonsense!
As regards the divine name, I agree with you in that it was inserted in the text, and there is no proof from any extent texts available now! You are correct in your argument.
Finally, what are you hoping to achieve in lambasting the NWT? It is an awful translation I agree, but why not present other translations that might help people understand what the Scriptures really teach? What is your agenda? You seem to be fixated in criticizing the NWT without offering any suggestions as to other translations which might prove more advantageous!

What Leloaia is basically saying (my 2-cents, and she is beyond my writing/reading skill too at times, she’s awesome!) is that people read into the text of the Bible what isn’t there. The WT is notorious for this! So are a lot of other Christian, religious groups! And the simple message, no matter how unscientific or primitive it is, is not understood or believed, because people try and read into the scriptures what isn’t there, to make it fit preconceived ideas! What I’ve learned recently is that the Bible is an entirely different book or collection of books/letters from what I was taught to believe while in Witnessdom! The Bible writers themselves, especially those that wrote the so-called, Christian Greek Scriptures, wrote these books/letters long after the events that they describe! And Gospels, like Luke, frankly say that the information contained was gathered from what others have said, and thus were not inspired (please read Luke chapter 1). Even books like Romans, although possibly penned by Paul initially, were rewritten by more astute Greek-writers, possibly Luke (Paul’s Greek was simply terrible at best). At least I can see this now!
Consider the book of Genesis, as another example. There’s nothing there that says regarding the creation event “this is what God says…” “God told me that this is what happened...” No, this isn’t what is presented. The Jewish Priests simply wrote what they thought happened, based, no doubt on secular history from the area they lived in, based on what was then known. There is no indication that God told them what to write, or "inspired" them!
My 2-cents, from a humbler person than what I was as a JW!
