Bethel Letter to Publishers (US Bethel Layoffs)

every september, at the beginning of the jw "service year", a letter to publishers is printed in the km.

A number of congregations in the United States branch territory will benefit from their help.

Mature, experienced brothers and sisters = older workers that we don't want to provide healthcare and retirement for.

Cheap bastards. Let's use up the prime years of your life, and then discard you like a used pair of undies.

My family is making me nuts

i need some advice all.

my mom, elder brother and sister and her family are all jws.

the only one who isn't a jw is my father.

I agree. When I have conversations with my family I NEVER discuss j-dub subjects. I'm completely inactive and live far away from my family so in reality they just might even believe

that I'm being the good little j-dub, doing all the j-dub things. Even if that is the case, I still never discuss religious topics,, I talk only about what truly interests me and truly interests

my family.

Are Witnesses okay with Fantasy Football leagues?

i was wondering about this, as fantasy football leagues are becoming big this time of year.

i have people i work with who live by these things, and even spend their entire breaks tracking information or text messaging friends to make changes.

it is not always about gambling, but often it is and in any case it takes a lot of time to work it.

In the midwest where I used to live, and my family still resides,, fantasy football is ok as long as there isn't any money involved. The one league I participate in currently has

two elders, and four ministerial servants in it. There have been other elders in that league in the past as well. So at least where I used to live it's accepted.

i read this forum alot.

though i don't post very often, i thought i would share the following thoughts.

my mother is 70, and lives alone (my parents separated and divorced about 23 years ago).

Forgive me if I seem to optimistic... Let's say your mom 'saw the light' and da'd herself. Maybe, just maybe, her actions would be a 'wake up call' to your three

j-dub sisters and get them to really think about this organization.

Though I do agree with your point, some people, due to age and their mental state and comfort level, probably are better off staying in the j-dub dreamworld.

A Friend Just Asked Me Why His JW Family Is Stocking Up On Food......

all of his family are witnesses.

they told him they are "storing and stocking up" on powdered milk and non-perishable items.......this is the second time i hear that witnesses are doing this in preperation of "the end".

My grandpa is still storing old army rations in a 'secret' room.(not much of a secret room as everyone knows about it, so we call it the secret room, while winking and grinning)

If I remember correctly,, these army rations are from world war II. I can only imagine what they would taste like if you were to try a 50+ year old canned food.

My grandpa isn't the only one that's doing this. To my knowledge, a large percentage of the old timers from the midwest keep large stocks of non perishable foods.

I wouldn't be surprised, considering that witnesses AGAIN feel the end is near, soon, now, imminent, that new ones are now jumping the 'let's store food' bandwagon.

Who Was The Weirdest Person In Your Congregation?

i guess this is kind of a fun topic.

who was the weirdest person in your congregation or kingdom hall?

without naming names, who was the person that was the most creepy, eccentric, or "out in left field"?

I know of one brother who was 'all-thumbs' due to separate machinery accidents that took his fingers off. This same brother had quite the

bladder problem, so anytime you were out in 'field service' with him, it was inevitable, that he would bolt from the car, run behind the nearest

tree, shrub, house, etc and do his thing. I often wonder how many times he wet himself due to difficulty unzipping his fly since he only had

thumbs work with.

I actually enjoyed being around this brother,, he was quite strange,, 50 + years of age, and living at home with mom and dad. I also felt

sorry for him,, as he was treated as an outcast and someone to be avoided by the congo. It never amazes me, how the congo will go to

any length to 'recruit' a new member,, then ignore that same member because of being a little different.

Can you be DF'd for apostasy without promoting apostate views?

i saw something on this subject a few years ago in a publication from brooklyn but can't find it now.

it referred to the 8/1/80 wt about what the greek word for apostasy really means, 'a standing away from', but showed that a person didn't have to share what he believed that differed from what the society taught to be df'd for it.. blondie!

If you are seen as a threat or not a yes man , they can find a way to disfellowship anybody for anything. Note how the rules have tightened and you can now be disfelleowshipped for viewing pornography. Soyes you can be disfellowshipped for anything even though you are not "guilty" of anything

Yep, and if stilla isn't careful,, he'll be df'd for that awesome profile pic that he has.

What a Fine Witness

i have a co-worker that came from the same small hometown i did.

small world, we both ended up about 450 miles away from there working for the same place.

shortly after tracy started working with me i walked with her to the coffee shop on break and got to chitty chatting.

I agree with you Gretchen. With the j-dubs, the organization is put ahead of the individual member, despite the cost. Even if that means turning a blind eye toward the victims,

and in the process of doing so, they protect and provide safe haven for the abuser.

It's just so ridiculous. People would have more respect towards an honest and open religion that allows for prosecution of alleged abusers. It just pisses me off that

keeping up an image is more important than caring for a victim of abuse.

How do I get my "lesbian" co-worker to stop discussing her lifestyle?

i work with a young woman in her mid-thirties that is openly lesbian.

we have been friends for about 10 years when she first started working at the company.

i was crazy about her before she came out as "gay" and i still have a good time working with her.

If a man were to talk so openly about sexual matters there is a huge risk of a complaint of sexual harrassment being made against him. Women should have the same consequences.

I would tell her only once to stop talking about such inappropriate things, and if she continues,, then report her to your HR department or supervisors.
